  1. i'm having trouble thinking of (m)any players who fared noticeably better defensively, relative to their peers, in switching from 3B to OF Miggy Cabrera, Chipper Jones, Kevin Mitchell and Bonilla's defensive statistics all suffered significantly from the switch, and Braun and Sheffield slightly improved to just 'really bad' in the OF from 'historically awful' fielders at 3B, and Pujols and Bautista stayed virtually the same i guess Teahen improved by a reasonable amount, but he likely possessed better athleticism than all the aforementioned guys
  2. i bet Rick Peterson could fix him in five minutes
  3. Chara really saved his ass with that save
  4. ok, i should have stated "by all accounts, struggles to play capable defense" he needs a HUGE completely unforeseen growth spurt in terms of offensive production to deserve that comparison, offensively; Aramis consistently had .100 isoD seasons in the minors, not .040, to go along with an OPS a full 160 pts higher than Vitters
  5. even Vitters' ceiling isn't very valuable we already know for sure he'll never walk, and can't play plus defense at 3B, and doesn't have huge power so, even imagining he can post .300/.365/.480 lines and play -5 defense, we're still just talking a 2.5-3 win player at best more likely, imo, he's a -10 fielder at 3B and hits something like .280/.320/.440, struggling to average 1 win a year; if he shifts to 1B, he's a bench player for us
  6. You know feline AIDS is the number one killer of domestic cats. hahaha
  7. i have admiration for the way their FO does business, but they got so unbelievably lucky with Youkilis and especially Ortiz, namely in the way they somehow happened upon prolific power strokes Ortiz was signed to be [expletive] Jeremy Giambi's backup, so you'll excuse me if i only award them partial credit for that one; still, i'll concede you can't strike gold like that when you play it safe with the Reed Johnsons of the world all the time
  8. We've already put Wilken to good use, so there's that Toronto connection. Can't say I know much about Alex Anthopoulos and how he runs the team, aside from shedding Vernon Wells' contract and getting reasonably good returns on some trades. *Shrug* the Bautista extension looks like an incredible steal at this point, and they do the Tampa thing of smartly exploiting RPs for a year or two and letting them walk for firsts which is what i would argue the Red Sox biggest problem has been, under Theo's administration
  9. easy there jaydee
  10. i'll never, ever understand how that guy was considered the superior prospect to Starlin

  12. just a few bonus babies that may interest you
  13. More excellent amateur talent assessment by the Cubs' top notch scouting department. going out of your way to crap on an 8th round pick is a really weird thing to do
  14. The replay was hilarious. Wade lying on the floor, grabbing his eye only after the shot missed, and pathetically looking towards the officials. it makes it really hard to rag on other countries with soccer when [expletive] like that is so unbelievably rampant in nba games
  15. ugh, wade laying on the ground there basketball needs to make flopping a technical foul so damn bad
  16. he sure showed you, rocket, the dusty apologist you are!
  17. chris davis i'm too worried about what might happen to somebody in 2017 to commit
  18. Jonah Keri wrote a good piece on the new mold of LF like Fuld, Brantley, Gardner we're seeing a lot more of lately, echoing the same benefits you mentioned that said, we still have a glaring need for a power bat or two, which hopefully gets resolved in a big way this offseason via a FA 1B
  19. 76 HR (.278/.399/.664) in his last 200 games, a 62 HR pace
  20. what a total butt
  21. probably backloaded with a NTC
  22. Al Albuquerque has been pretty Wuertz-y so far watching him, seems like he throws his slider every single pitch (fangraphs lists its usage 65.5% of the time, compared to 34.5% for his 94.6 MPH fastball). coming into today, he's struck out 22 in 12-1/3 IP in other news, Rich Hill's quietly pitched 3-2/3 scoreless innings for Boston since being called up last Thursday
