  1. Davis has been on MLB rosters for 12 seasons was he a better pitcher in '07 or '09 than he was this past season? what made him effective in those seasons and a pitching machine this year? why would i do that?
  2. Fangraphs had him listed at being worth about $2.1 million last season. If "substantial raise" means at least $3 million a year, or even $3.5, they're overpaying, but if he's holding out for an extra $500K-$1MM there probably isn't any harm in paying him that with all the money we're not spending on FA's, but he's honestly not worth that much money from a baseball standpoint. It'd be for the whole Golden Calf effect. I'm A-OK with that, but if they don't sign him it's not exactly a dumb baseball move. SCARY FACT: I know one was a starter and the other was a reliever, but Doug Davis was considered more valuable than Kerry Wood last year, and in fewer innings pitched (0.7 to 0.5). to be clear, with his leverage index, Wood's monetary value was much more in the neighborhood of $3M last year; dictating a reliever's value by WAR fails to account for the added importance of their innings pitched also, your scary fact doesn't hold true after accounting for Davis' hitting
  3. Mets placed Fernando Martinez on waivers yes please!
  4. 1 Indianapolis Colts (2-14) 2 St. Louis Rams (2-14) 3 Minnesota Vikings (3-13) 4 Cleveland Browns (4-12) 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12) 6 Washington Redskins (5-11) 7 Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11) 8* Carolina Panthers (6-10) 8* Miami Dolphins (6-10) 10 Buffalo Bills (6-10) 11* Kansas City Chiefs (7-9) 11* Seattle Seahawks (7-9) 13 Arizona Cardinals (8-8) 14 Dallas Cowboys (8-8) 15 Philadelphia Eagles (8-8) 16 New York Jets (8-8) 17 Cincinnati Bengals from OAK (8-8) 18 San Diego Chargers (8-8) 19 Chicago Bears (8-8) 20 Tennessee Titans (9-7) 21 Cincinnati Bengals (9-7) 22 Cleveland Browns from ATL (10-6) 23 Detroit Lions (10-6) 24 Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) *Coin flip needed to break tie
  5. LOLOL your argument is that a defense playing with five pro bowlers (two defensive players of the year) couldn't contain Tebow because they were without their nose tackle and Brett Keisel for some of the game http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb224/dbarsne/straws.jpg
  6. yes i do believe!
  7. it's hilarious that Tebow's mostly been masterful and the defense and RBs are going to blow the game for him
  8. Zack Novak's the only white guard i'll ever love
  9. ...if the boot fits
  10. ride like the wind!
  11. oh, you probably thought that was funny to say there's a snake...in my boot
  12. i don't know what offensive holding is anymore, i really don't, because you see it loud and clear on every cocksucking replay
  13. Agreed. The inadvertant whistle, the bogus personal foul call, and the horrible spot have either led to points for the Saints or taken points off the board for the Lions. and i want to be pissed about it, but Pierre Thomas is like rubber to us for some buttfucking reason so it probably won't matter, ultimately
  14. Drew Brees and his other-worldly offensive line and cache of pro-bowl skill players need all the help they can get, i guess
  15. perfect blanket coverage and Graham makes a one-handed catch, tip the pass and they still come down with it; this is incredibly irritating
  16. were i Schwartz, i would have choked Eric Wright for serving as matador for Pierre Thomas on that 3rd down screen play earlier
  17. GB over NE
  18. I'm not sure why anyone would want a 28 year old rookie 1B with a half year of proven ability at the MLB level. the average DH had a .769 OPS, the average 1B had a .791 OPS, and the average LF had a .727 OPS last year impartial projection systems have him down for between .775 and .800 OPS; he could conceivably be an offensive upgrade for teams severely lacking at any of these positions (specifically Tampa, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Texas), looking to upgrade with relatively little acquisition cost
  19. omg TT, i was bored and started screwing around with this a little bit, and the LaHair easter egg just absolutely killed me
  20. http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2012/1/6/2687322/everyone-needs-a-zook-from-an-unpublished-manuscript-by-dr-seuss some of the comments toward the bottom are pretty great too
  21. yeah, Cates is pretty exciting in his own right too; had a really strong year last year, horrific (fluky) LOB issues aside, and a good pedigree
