  1. This might be the dumbest thing asked on here since Da Bum left it's misguided to keep repeating that some of these prospects are sure to fail with the implication veterans are comparatively a sure thing; it's a point that's needlessly belabored it's been said before, but it warrants repeating that "minor league batting statistics will predict major league batting performance with essentially the same reliability as previous major league statistics" so let's talk about the veterans who'll flame out, too, like Schierholtz, Jackson, Sweeney, etc. have
  2. oh now you've done it
  3. who specifically are the inevitable failures?
  4. 60% contact rate now for Baez - Olt was 65%, Lake was 61% he improved significantly from his abysmal contact rates early at Iowa, but that was largely credited to a change in his swing that allowed him to reach the outside fastball he'll mostly just have to stop swinging at so many pitches out of the zone, which is do-able as he gets more comfortable
  5. better make it a 60-day stint
  6. eh, i still mostly like Cameron's stuff
  7. my choice is Manny Ramirez
  8. while his UZR error score is at an all-time high, his range has really decreased this year i mentioned this elsewhere, but he may be settling in as a Jeter-esque fielder - more sure handed and lacking range - and if we scout him as such, he's probably headed for a move to his right next season or soon thereafter
  9. i have a hard time right now imagining Castro being moved the teams who'll value his offensive skillset more are going to be turned off some by overblown makeup/effort concerns, and the teams who'll value him more with an analytical mindset are going to be turned off some by his poor approach and shaky defense even moving to 3B, i still see him having more worth to us than another team might realistically be willing to give up for him
  10. Castro had a better OPS in Tennessee at the same age true, but Russell already has more HR in 153 Tennessee AB than Castro did in 1000 MILB ABs MILB career ISOs: Russell - .224 Castro - .111 best prospect in baseball.
  11. Prince Fielder, Alex Rios, Shin-soo Choo all are combining for below-replacement-level production
  12. Yeah, I fail to see the craaaaaaazy part of that previous statement. 55Mil+, assuming for 5 years is about what I expected. If it's only 4 years, that's still doable. Probably going to pay someone lesser similar annually (maybe not as many years) if they sign an OF. doubtful Bryant* / Contra / Soler *Ruggiano / Coghlan til May
  13. Urb not taking the news well http://cdn3.sbnation.com/assets/3740249/sadpizza.gif
  14. yeah i meant to mention yesterday that the MLB leader in WAR is a LF with a .445 SLG
  15. not like it matters, but it would seem unlikely Texas value Hendricks and Villanueva very highly umm oh...now i get it
  16. not like it matters, but it would seem unlikely Texas value Hendricks and Villanueva very highly
  17. Adam Everett?? did the Astros simply elect not to field a SS before the 2000s?
  18. .880 OPS with a .250 BABIP - good heavens
  19. and that's why you always declare for the draft
