  1. nice recovery by Russell on that scorcher Tomas looked to have made a lucky snag to prevent an Almora 2B
  2. love Addi Baez ripped a lineout to LF
  3. He's already bought into the whole BFIB thing already? That was quick. also he's already blowing a .16
  4. Pederson, Tomas, Fielder wouldn't have been terrible choices or Baez, even
  5. Yet Szczur has 0 votes so far... i'm on mobile, i'll get around to it
  6. Szczur and Rivero
  7. if we go like 6-3 in his absence there won't be much consternation over it
  8. La Stella has a .375/.455/.521, 6 BB, 6K spring line fwiw
  9. - Arrietta's our best starter / Lester kinda disappoints - Cubs have 3 top-10s in trade value (and a top-25) come July - Jason Motte blows at least 5 leads in April & May - that nightmare is over when Rivero replaces him - Travis Wood wins 13 games, plays LF at some point - DL stints for Montero, Fowler, Neil Ramirez, Hammel - Fowler gets the most starts in LF - or maybe Bryant does - Mike Trout gets injured and Robinson Cano wins MVP - Mookie Betts is top-10 in MVP voting - Stephen Strasburg wins NLCY - Carlos Carrasco wins ALCY - Soler wins NL ROY - George Springer strikes out 250x Indians over Red Sox Mets over Cubs Indians over Mets
  10. wild card also has some pretty good choices beyond the obvious couple
  11. Really? I still have him coming up on April 20th given Theo's preference for debuting new players on the road. keeping him down for 9 games makes perfect sense keeping him down any longer just for arbitrary reasons of comfort or whatever, doesn't
  12. that's actually a great upside comp, given that Gardner had 9 HR in 391 minor league games and didn't carve out a role until age 26 minor leagues Gardner: 93 XBH (9 HR) in 1764 PA Szczur: 136 XBH (18 HR) in 2137 PA but in his last 4 full MLB seasons, Gardner's hit 37 HR...Marvin Benard is another guy who grew into useful in-game power in his mid-late 20s, so it's not completely unprecedented
  13. that's the Arrieta Principle
  14. I know it's spring and his patience could still use some work, but if lowering his hands is helping him get the bat to the ball and make hard contact more consistently, he may actually prove to be quite useful. stance & swing looks a lot like JJ Hardy now (which isn't to say i expect that level of power)
  15. basically to a man, all the guys who'll be sent north have done a good job of controlling the strike zone this spring
  16. Rizzo's HR was of the opposite-field variety
  17. yeah, i expect him to be in there April 17th
  18. swap out Hammel for Lester, and switch TLS/AA's positions and this is probably the opening day lineup
  19. they're assuming he misses 22 games http://www.predictionmachine.com/Kris-Bryant-Demoted-by-Chicago-Cubs so that's plainly wrong
  20. If by athleticism you mean "runs fast," yeah, it's been there all along. @BenBadler Matt Szczur now in CF. Guy looks like he could deadlift a school bus if he wanted to (from 7/2011)
  21. Szczur was BA's #64 prospect in '12 after a 10 HR season, but has hit just 8 in the three seasons since the (faint?) hope is basically that his swing was badly broken before and he's discovered something mechanically that works much better for him
  22. Sands & Szczur
