  1. we are actually in a situation where i'm relieved to see Phil Coke man, that's bleak
  2. everybody needs to listen to this http://deadspin.com/reggie-miller-definitely-doesnt-know-what-a-pun-is-1699138948

  4. So happy! Not that Jaylen Brown is going to choose Michigan, but if he does, how are we going to free a scholarship? Are you including Bielfeldt? Bieldfeldt was granted his release, and he's expected to go to Bradley would have been funny for him to have 2 senior days though
  5. i used to post at cubstalk/insidetheivy http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view5/2096133/sideshow-bob-rakes-o.gif
  6. Levert returning, yessss
  7. false hope is worse than death
  8. when did Melky Cabrera play for us???
  9. it's very much worth considering if we somehow overperformed and weren't sellers either of the three years 2012: no Kyle Hendricks* 2013: no Neil Ramirez, Justin Grimm, CJ Edwards, Arrieta, Strop 2014: no Addison Russell, Billy McKinney *this one would probably bother just me though yeah, retroactively wiping out either of those last two deadline hauls is way too deleterious for me to accept
  10. so we're really just incessantly crabbing that we weren't competitive enough sad-sack losers last year?
  11. if you wanted the FO to go full out last year then you're not allowed to enjoy anything that Russell does you're not allowed to like him don't even say his name
  12. i've heard Bryant has experience there
  13. don't forget that 101-loss 2012 team allowed us to draft Bryant #sorrynotsorry
  14. yeah back to Hendricks i mean how to you rate being a brainiac in regards to tools? i think that factor and the control is what makes Hendricks a good pitcher. Gotta say, I'm a reasonably bright guy but it never really helped my pitching all that much. I think most of the credit goes to his command and the quality of his pitches. OPS against pitch 1-25: .790 pitch 26-50: 575 pitch 51-75: .492 i'm curious what you make of that, personally...maybe just SSS noise still? something different?

  16. you just set off the the logan signal
  17. or perhaps more importantly, Alcantara / Matt Szczur / Ryan Sweeney would have had a place to play

  19. I am aware that my feelings about him and his production don't line up. Like I said I hope I'm wrong, I understand he has exceptional control and that goes a long way but it's just hard to find a ton of guys who've had long term success with similar stuff. I hope he's able to turn into a Bronson Arroyo, without the douche, type pitcher for us (that's the best comp I can think of, at least of recent pitchers). this is admittedly more feelings-ball, but it seems his type of pitcher might be a little better-suited to succeed now in today's offensive environment where hitters mostly watch the middle of the plate and spit on all other offerings, so if you can live on the edges with a competent receiver at C, you'll go 7 IP most times out not a comparison by any means, but Jered Weaver had 6.6 RA9-WAR the last two seasons while failing to average 87 on his fastball...Bartolo Colon, Josh Collmenter, Dan Haren, Doug Fister, Tim Hudson, Hisashi Iwakuma, Mike Fiers all have similar or worse FB velocity and have enjoyed consistent recent success and you can maybe add to that Chris Heston's hot start probably not worth a ton of consideration, but i like seeing that his FB pitch value (per 100 pitches) for last year and this year is a plus, and actually even better than Gerrit Cole's, who has one of the highest radar readings in the game edit: also amusing is that Hendricks and Adam Wainwright have identical FB velo right now
  20. i wish all the Kyle Hendricks haters could be cursed into alternate dimensions where their favorite teams have Rubby de la Rosa and Nate Eovaldi throwing smoke and getting mercilessly bombed by hitters
  21. Kyle Hendricks aka the starter with the best SIERA right now bold prediction: he's not getting displaced
  22. so when late-May comes around and they've accepted their fate, we agree to take Broxton and Aram-irez off their hands at minimal prospect cost (Paniagua? Rademacher? Peralta?) and they're only left to pay 4-5 million of dead money owed instead of the full $15-16 left on their commitments at that point
