  1. where was that last week
  2. his whole career he averages 2 WAR per 155 G which makes him a useful guy but i'm done expecting further meaningful development - his flaws are probably fairly intrinsic - so if you're confident Baez can closely approximate that value i don't see the tragedy in parting with Castro for young unproven mlb-ready 55fv hitter or 60fv pitcher if you can, much as it pains me to say
  3. i'd expect the vast majority of teams to value Schwarber more highly than Castro at the moment also, if i'm reading correctly, Soler is in the beginning of 6/$25.5M in obligations; with teams coveting middle of the order RH hitting, he's probably right up there with Arrieta, Russell & Schwarber battling for #3 spot Rizzo's the obvious #1, to me (is he #3 overall in baseball for trade value?)
  4. part of that differential was 'achieved' with 2 weeks of Mike Olt / Bad Mendy occupying Bryant's spot and about a month's worth of Schlitter and Coke replace the two gas cans with even replacement-level pen arms and that paints a rosier picture; this mostly tells us that bullpen construction wasn't handled super optimally in the offseason
  5. that's a David Ortiz swing
  6. the Indians rotation has a 4.58 ERA despite a 3.20 FIP
  7. our lineup is sneaky bad right now - Castro is basically Ruben Tejada at the moment - Soler is GB/K guarantee - Coghlan is permanently accursed - Lester starts add two total zeroes to the lineup
  8. in the last calendar year, 4 players have hit 35 HR or more (all were at least 6'2 and 230lb); i'm just going to say i don't think you're properly calibrated to how shitty this dumb offensive environment is now i don't remember specifically 'writing him off', but i've been consistent saying it seems other people's daydreams about him seem to be much higher than my expectations and he'd probably be best-served as trade bait if opposing GMs felt the same way
  9. what could you possibly see his upside as, to use such wild hyperbole i think we're mostly all going to be really jazzed if he's approaching .300 OBP and mid-20s HR with positive defensive impact, but that's so far divorced from your lofty praise that i can't really fathom what your fantasies for him are
  10. Andrew Cashner is 1-7 with a 2.89 ERA...how is that possible edit: 12(!) unearned runs- counting them, he'd have 4.82 ERA
  11. giving the Padres a little bit of credit, Rizzo's had to sort of overhaul his batting stance a couple times to get to the point where he is now; with the Padres his hands were way high up and you had scouts saying he "couldn't get around on a fastball starting with a 9", and in his second year with us his hands were too low sapping his AVG he seems to have found a perfect balance now...
  12. ok that makes up for last night's marathon of disappointment #wearegood
  13. Oliver Perez is wearing the jersey version of the David Byrne big suit
  14. i've noticed that Soler eschews the dandruff celebration for some toilet swirlie thing
  15. JABO: What could the Reds get for Chapman and Cueto? http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/story/cincinnati-reds-johnny-cueto-aroldis-chapman-trade-052215 going back & forth on whether i'd pull trigger on Baez + McKinney demand
  16. eh, the last 11/13 games, Bryant's hit 2nd & Rizzo's hit 3rd, with a 2-game interruption where they swapped
  17. this couldn't be further from the truth with this many good hitters and a competent manager, i think it's pretty much a waste of time and energy to worry about how it shakes out. you know he's not going to do anything criminally dumb, either way. truth be told, with the hitters we have even the least optimal lineup can't be that bad compared to the optimal one. who's wasting energy worrying? he's simply asking "what lineup would you like to see?" we're all basically sitting here with 10,000s of posts on a forum about a sport we like to watch and the question arises about strategy you'd like to see employed- it seems silly and needlessly dismissive to just reflexively shoot it down & say, "doesn't matter, who cares" because you happen to think it's largely intangible
  18. this couldn't be further from the truth
