  1. Has Soriano even had an error in CF this spring? He looks pretty solid out there, and he'll get better the longer he plays out there.
  2. Sports Blog Nation is a side project ran by Markos Moulitsas Zúniga of Daily Kos. These guys are actually making a bit of change to blog.
  3. http://deadspin.com/sports/baseball/we-think-ninjas-would-make-great-closers-actually-246266.php http://www.azstarnet.com/sports/174627.php[
  4. Just by getting rid of Dusty and Lee being healthy, I think you're already over 80 wins. I think Lou over Dusty is a 10-win swing alone. The offseason moves just add to that (and whatever we get out of Wood/Prior), plus development of the kids who got experience last year (Murton, Theriot, Hill, Guzman, etc.).
  5. It'd be stupid to trade Prior when he has little value at this point.
  6. Considering we have a logjam everywhere, unless we can get someone who's a BIG improve at a position, we need to keep Jones. I doubt San Diego will trade away a closer or a #3 starter for Jones. I'm glad to see Pie's playing well in ST, but he needs at-bats in AAA and to play every day. He might start out hot and then crash to earth like Choi, Cedeno, Patterson, etc etc.
  7. If he can eat up innings, keep the pen fresh, and keep us in games, he'll be a good addition to the staff. As said, Wrigley and our infield will eat up a lot of those groundballs if he can keep the sinker going.
  8. It's a nice problem to have... and E-Pat is really tearing it up so far as well.
  9. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/more/03/06/rx.trouble0312/1.html More trouble from same investigation as Gary Matthews, Jr. David Bell and John Rocker are two others named in the article. Guess Evander Hollyfield is another guy involved.
  10. This team is going to have a pretty good defense once Lou gets everyone whipped into shape.
  11. You can have a regular conversation with him. A lot of people (especially the younger crowd) want him to do the woo-woo act though. He has a Bears helmet sometimes during FB season, which is funny. I'd think you'd have to have a couple screws loose to do what he does, but he's not insane or mentally challenged.
  12. Told you guys Balco was just the tip of the iceberg. 8-)
  13. 82 votes, 62 votes required for election, Santo got 57 :(
  14. I believe there are 83 members, so you need 63 votes to make it in, assuming everyone votes. I think Sutter and Elston will probably vote for Santo as well since they have Cubs connections. Tracy Ringolsby is a big SABR guy, so that's another vote there. Not sure on Coleman... he wasn't a NL broadcaster during Santo's peak years. He will be much closer than 2 years ago, within 5 votes, and has a shot to make it if a few persons change their minds.
  15. He's actually throwing on the mound this year (in the first week of spring training, no less), and independent bloggers have said his stuff looks great.
  16. MLB2k8 is coming to Wii, but not 2k7. Apparently 2K wants to get it right and not make it just a port job. http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=7855045&publicUserId=5827967
  17. Or you let him become a FA and get top draft picks. You're clearly not going to trade him before the deadline at this point, when you've went all-in to win this year.
  18. I have to laugh at all you Bears fans in this thread predicting that the Bears would blow away the Colts O-Line like they did the Saints. Colts would have put up 40 easily if there was no rain tonight.
  19. he also has one of the biggest egos of any pitcher to take the mound. I've had just about enough of him and his indecision. Also, I'm convinced he is a roid monster, he looked like he was done in 96, then in 99, and again in 02. But somehow he miraculously regains his velocity and continues to pitch. Clemens is as big as a joke as Barry Bonds. Yeah, it definitely sets off alarm bells when you have some of the best years of your career in your mid-40s.
  20. Considering how big of a cashcow Cub fans are for the league, Selig needs to shut up.
  21. I think either style coach can have success. Coaching isn't about yelling at or being buddy-buddy with players, it's about getting the most out of players, and either style can do that. The differences between Lovie and Dusty (other than talent level of the team) are so great. Lovie has shown no reluctance to bench players while they are not performing, yet knows when to stick by a guy (Grossman). Lovie's team plays hard. Lovie's team doesn't make many fundamental mistakes. Lovie puts guys in position to have success. Dusty was a disaster. I assume Lovie is more aggressive outside of the game, like practice & all. While Dusty is nowhere. I assume at least a couple, if not several of the Bears assistant coaches are fiery and the type to ream people out. As far as the running games go, the Chiefs and Ravens didn't run it as much because all their runs were getting stuffed at the line, plus they had fallen behind the Colts by more than a TD. The Bears will have to be unpredictable on offense to keep the Colts from just rushing at the RB like he was Grossman on a passing down.
  22. The Saints game has no bearing on Bears D v.s. Colts Offense. The Colts have a much better O-Line than the Saints (Manning almost never gets sacked), plus it's nearly impossible to blitz Manning with how smart he is. The Colts have a ton of weapons and have shown they can grind out drives or score quickly. Grossman is going to have to play really well for the Bears to have a good chance of winning this game... the Colts will cheat and shut down the run like they did against KC and Baltimore if the Bears can't pass it. Go Colts!
  23. He's listed as running a 4.6 40. I'd estimate that to be around Derrek Lee's speed, so I think he could steal a base or two if need be.
  24. One of the most ridiclous contracts ever
  25. I think you pick up 10 games there alone just by replacing Dusty with Lou.
