  1. Big game tonight for draft position... would help to let ourselves be swept especially with our last 3 games against Houston.

Penciling in: -1B: Rizzo -2B: Barney -SS: Castro -C: Castillo/Clevenger -SP: Garza (if he's not traded) -SP: Shark -SP: Wood -RP: Marmol -RP: Russell -OF: DeJesus What we need: - 2-3 SP, at least one being a TOR guy - A reasonably priced veteran RP or two that can provide some stability and could be flipped at the deadline if we're out of it. - 3B. Vitters hasn't shown a thing yet... Stewart was bad. Valuenba's been barely above a replacement player. - OF (espescially if we can move Soriano). I don't think LaHair is the answer as a starter but he could be a backup corner OF/1B as long as he's cheap. Jackson provides value at CF (although I think he probably needs another 1/2 season in Iowa) and Mathier is awful.
  3. Next they need to move the AAA affiliate to Indianapolis.... that's a couple hours closer than Des Moines.
  4. Yeah either "some guy in a black van handed me a supplement/weird energy drink and I used it" or "I got a doctor's prescription for it" are the usual excuses.
  5. It should be "Wow! Castro... sucks!" :D
  6. It's pretty ridiclous how far behind baseball is compared to football or basketball. All our minor league teams ought to have a nutritionist and 2-3 strength/fitness trainers on staff (paid for by Cubs money) and it ought to be a directive from upper management across the entire system that our guys are in the best possible shape and eat healthy. Mandatory strength & conditioning and at least one meal a day from a training table like it's a college program.
  7. It'll be interesting to see what their plan is for the rotation if they are planning on moving Garza.
  8. Good news is we'll get to see if Vitters works out before Villanueva is ready for the ML-level (since he's just in A ball).
  9. This is where having essentially 2 GMs should pay off. Definitely possible to pull off multiple late deals, whereas Hendry all-alone would have trouble.
  10. Probably a few more hoops to jump through before Dempster gives the okay on his end.
  11. Miracle win streak time. Let's do it. That'd probably put us 7 games out in the Central and maybe 6 or so out for the 2nd WC
  12. Makes sense... he's got some experience and is pitching better in AAA than most of our other options. We can roll him out there and see what he's got without burning options on people who won't be ready.
  13. The big thing is I don't think Theo is going to overpay for FA unless it's for the last couple pieces of the puzzle.
  14. Yeah, this is gonna get called unless the umps are crazy.
  15. with all due respect, we need a large infusion of pitching into our system. True, but I feel like having strong pitching in the minors is more of a numbers game. If the Cubs implement the same strategy in the draft that they did this year, enough will stick and become legitimate prospects. Getting hitters like Olt, Rizzo and Baez is much more difficult. but i don't think we have the time to draft and wait, we need to get near-major league-ready pitchers if we're going to be competitive by 2014. Luckily we have free agency and the ability to trade for pitching as well.
  16. got an assist from the bullpen there, lol
  17. Makes sense... having both Theo and Jed is gonna help but we're still going to need to make at least one move in the next week to ten days so we can get everything done we need to get done by the deadline.
  18. At some point you're going to be able to buy channels ala carte and that's when the TV rights fee gravy train is going to come to an end. Right now, everyone with cable/satellite is forced to pay for sports channels that they might not want. I think ESPN is $4-5 on your cable bill alone.
  19. We're definitely going to need to get at least 1 starter for the front half of the rotation. Really depends on what happens with the potential Garza/Dempster trades. I think you have to pencil in Wood and Shark for two of the spots, but it's pretty wide-open after that. If I'm a GM at this point, I'm starting a knuckleball program and dumping several million into that, but that's obviously going to take several years for you to develop players that way. That's a way I think you could have a constant stream of cheap #3-5 starters.
  20. He can be like the Bugs Bunny cartoon where he plays every position on the field.
  21. Might as well make Soriano or someone pitch at this point.
  22. Vinnie Riz
  23. lol, Mets announcers don't understand that you can't touch the umps.
  24. The Mets announcers are throwing a fit... of course they were making fun of the Cubs for 1969 earlier.
