  1. .247/.370/.617? That looks fantastic. Wait, what three stats are you comparing in that line? Usually it's AVG/OBP/SLG Jones v. LHP 2005: .201/.247/.370/.617 3 year: .238/.295/.363/.658 Sign that man to a three year contract now! Don't let him get away, Jim!!!! It doesn't sound like the Cubs are going to platoon Jones, even though it makes a lot of sense.
  2. I agree. I usually pass on the closers. There are many options in the late rounds for low WHIP, high K guys that pitch comparable number of innings as closers.
  3. that is a good freaking answer. Seconded. You cannot fight a war against something that isn't a Nation-State. Having said that, this war kind of looks like several various Occupier vs Partisan conflicts. Just comparing it to Vietnam is a cop out. I don't know. We fought wars against communism and Nazism.
  4. I took part in 3 fantasy drafts with 10 teams each and got Barrett in the 15th round or later in all of them despite Michael being the best hitting catcher in the NL. He's very underrated. Thank you for making my point. Catchers are also worthless offensively. Most people jump the gun. I saw someone take Mauer in the 4th round. Yup every catcher is worthless offensively. None of them can hit a ball off a tee. Downright atrocious. Go to your room and take a nap. Who was the best offensive catcher last season? Martinez. He ranked 160th among MLB players (using Yahoo's ranking system and standard scoring categories). If you have 10 teams, why would you be taking him before the 10th round? Barrett, our Silver Slugger, ranks 356th. Typically, your backup outfielders put up better numbers than your catchers do. That's pretty worthless (in the fantasy baseball world).
  5. That's my point. Sometimes is's just best to respond with a "no comment." LMAO, what's even better is that Williams told Ozzie to shut his hole after the Nomar/ARod rant b/c stuff like that gave the organization a bad name. Hypocrite.

  7. So the only thing Barrett thinks he can improve on is throwing out basestealers? He needs to work out big time on blocking balls in the dirt as well. That's not what I wanted to hear from Barrett. :(
  8.
  9. This could be bad or good. How's it bad? b/c it pushes Williams/Rusch out of the rotation? I like Rusch too, but Miller is way better than Williams (if he's healthy). Personally, I'd like to show Maddux and Rusch the door and start miller and williams. Z Prior Wood Miller Maddux or Z Prior Wood Maddux Rusch/Williams or maybe you mean miller's health isn't great so wood may be a ways off. :? i give up, lol.
  10. Real Cub fans wear shorts to every game no matter what the temperature is. At least the Old Style will be cold.
  11. $40 is cheap compared to what bleachers go for on stubhub, ebay, and the other ticket brokers. I really wish people would stop buying tickets if all they're going to do is turn around and sell them for a profit.
  12. Too bad he didn't lose a year or two as well.
  13. Yah i'm gonna go ahead and hope that was just an unflattering picture... He's always had baby fat. His wife doesn't seem to mind.
  14. Opening Day where?
  15. They used to. It was called the 90s. And the 80s. And the 70s. And..... Yup, Hendry is irreplaceable.
  16. Neither. The Iraq War is pretty small in the number of friendly casualties. The large insurgent element in this war directly contrasts the more conventional WWII from our perspective (except near the end and that was a fairly limited insurgent campaign by the Nazis). The Nazis got a nasty taste of guerilla warfare after their initial blitz (e.g. Yugoslavia). The Iraq War is very different from the Vietnam War. Number of casualties, morale of troops, professionalism of the military as a whole, and the type of combat are different. It's like comparing an apple and a bird. How many differences would you like? I have yet to hear anyone logically compare Iraq and Vietnam and come to the conclusion they are similar. It's more of an anti-war slogan at this point, rather than a valid comparison.
  17. Has anyone heard anything about this rumor other than the original radio snippet?
  18. soccer. :) competitive ping pong
  19. I don't have a problem with the decision to invade. My only problem is with the way the invasion and subsequent rebuilding have been handled. This war was very winnable (quickly) had we been more ruthless at the beginning and more willing to open up the pocketbook in the early stages of reconstruction. People can rant about Bush's motives all they want and scream about how the rest of the world hates us. The truth is we had a golden opportunity to create an ally in Iraq, which might have positively influenced the Middle East. It certainly didn't have to create more enemies of this country. If we had made the average Iraqis' life better quickly (e.g. flying in massive generators to get electrical power to the people), the American presence in Iraq would be more tolerable and maybe not even necessary at this point in time. Take away the seeds of the insurgency before it catches fire by getting the masses on your side. Instead we halfassed it, allowed the insurgency to grow and adapt. That doesn't benefit anyone other than the terrorists, who use this war to stir up support. You can't blame the military for this. They are a tool and do what they do. They're not experts in the rebuilding process. That should have come from the civilian leadership, both Republican and Democrat.
  20. Yeah, give him an extension NOW!!! Sub .500 records don't grow on trees you know.
  21. Somehow Murton wound up with 140 ML AB in 2005. He was given his chance to prove himself and he did. Now he gets the starting job in LF. Who's going to take a ton of AB from Murton in '06? Mabry and Grissom? If Murton gets beat out by those two for playing time, he doesn't deserve to be the everyday LF. It's not like we have Griffey, Dunn, Pena, and Kearns competing for playing time like Cinci did. Mabry and Grissom aren't fit to lick Kearns's cleats. It's not going to be much of a competition for playing time in LF unless Murton somehow transforms into Dubois. I'm less convinced that Cedeno will continue to play everyday when Neifi is in the wings making 2.5M/season. Cedeno is going to have to prove he deserves that spot and do it early in the season. A prolonged slump puts him on the bench. Dusty is indeed a vetophile, but it usually only shows when the younger guy hasn't gone through the initial breaking in period (150 AB or so).
  22. Because Soriano used to play next to Derek Jeter, who we all know is the most clutch player of all time.. clutchness is indeed contagious.
