  1. Adam Dunn? Yes please. I'll take two. Wait, that's not possible? It should be. I wouldn't cry if we acquired Kearns instead, but IMO, if we're going to be playing Murton and Cedeno, we don't need another project on the team. Between Kearns, Murton, and Cedeno, someone is likely to tank. We have the money to pay for a sure thing in the OF and we should do it (Dunn).
  2. Player A's games played since 2000: 51, 156, 152, 162, 162, 162 Player B's games played since 2000: 49, 159, 122, 58, 86, 114 starting Player B keeps Neifi off the field.
  3. In Pierre's defense, he is probably due for an upswing, as his BABIP was way below normal for him. Buying low might be ok. I don't want to give up Pie for him though (i don't see Pie in cubbie blue, but as a trade chip for a better player than Pierre).
  4. he's going to be way above $2.5M.
  5. Pierre is a life time 267/363 in SB for 74%. I could care less what a leadoff man's SLG is. I'd value the 200 hits/yr and OBP a lot more than his .SLG. Pierre's K/BB ratio is 211/226. While thats not HOF worthy, his speed and his ability to make contact really helps him. Anytime he makes contact on the ground he can be a threat. Pierre would be a tremendous improvemtn over anything the Cubs have had at the top of the order recently. average OBP at the top of the order would be an improvement over '05. pierre is an improvement, but that isn't saying much. 74% is pathetic considering his speed. speed does not make a base stealer. he is slightly above the break even point for making outs/scoring runs by taking that extra bag. his K/BB ratio might be ok, but you'd think he could get on base a little more often. slap hitters suck. he's not really that bad, but at the price we're going to pay for him, there are better options (Bradley).
  6. i don't agree with the stats you use to evaluate Pierre (except OBP).
  7. SS Furcal 2B Perez/Cedeno 1B Lee 3B Ramirez C Barrett RF Scrub LF Murton CF Pie * Pie in CF for '06 is a nightmare, but "the Cubs think he is ready." CPat II in the making. Way to learn from your mistakes, Hendry.
  8. Sing and Coats with pretty bad AFL numbers. :pukel: it's also a fairly small number of ABs. don't worry.
  9. and SS typically being the least offensive position in baseball. ARod is a beast though.
  10. Or maybe they just think they are the same morans that gave Neifi Perez $5 million. Just say no to Pierre. I'd rather have Patterson. If Bradley can be had for nothing, I don't know why Hendry is still thinking about Pierre. Exactly. Bradley is a better (leadoff) hitter than Pierre, he'll be cheaper money-wise and player-wise, we'll have him under contract longer, he plays better defense, he's younger, and he's not coming off of a terrible year. He's also coming off an injury plagued year. I don't blame Hendry for not pursuing an injury risk. I think it is lame not to pursue someone b/c of "attitude problems." Bradley probably isn't the best fit for this team, considering how many injury prone guys are already here under contract for 2006. there is a difference between attitude problems and violent anti-social behavior. bradley's history exhibits the latter. i was trying to be nice. the guy is an A-hole to teammates and loved ones.
  11. you don't get free agents at a bargain. that's the nature of free agency. giles will be overpriced for what he brings to the table. yes, i value OBP too. he'll be a good value for the first 2 years, ok for the 3rd, and a detriment after that. he'll get at least 4 years. don't let SD's lowballing fool you.
  12. Good points B, but with regard to the Cubs' interest: is it possible that Hendry is trying to not tip his hand (or rather, what he wants his hand to be)? I mean, if we went all gung-ho about how we wanted him, wouldn't he have even more bargaining power than he already has? I'm not terribly optimistic about us landing him, but from what I've read, that's something that Beane does. it seems possible, but if we're going to come up with baseless hypothetical scenarios, they might as well be a happy ones, right? :D
  13. i'd be so drunk, the sign would be upside down and i'd be in my birthday suit.

  15. he's not going to be had for $30/3years. the padres offers pissed him off so bad "he lost interest in them." those offers probably aren't anywhere close to what he wants in dollars or years.
  16. it was actually a pretty good year for Karros (best year since 1999). he probably only had 3 years that were better (BA/OBP/SLG): 1998, 1999, and 1995. In 2003: Karros .286/.340/.446/.786 (336 AB) Choi .218/.350/.421/.771 (202 AB)
  17. Why is this good news? Cedeno might hit like Neifi and Furcal will be hard pressed to outproduce what Walker did last year. Since Neifi had a good year at short, on a net basis the Cubs will be no better off. If you sign Furcal, leave Walker at second, Neifi on the bench and Cedeno at Iowa. If I'm not mistaken, Furcal hit 15 homers last season and had an OBP as good or better than Walker. IMO it won't be all that difficult for Furcal to surpass Todd's rate of production from 04-05. Edit - It should be noted that I want a Furcal/Walker middle infield for next year. I just don't see it happening anymore. :( You have to adjust Walker's production for his injury. Furcal's rates aren't any better. Plus Furcal had a large advantage in his home park. I maintain that you are no better off and I think you agree with me. But you seem to be adjusting to reality better than I am. when you factor in defense & speed, furcal is much more productive than walker. he's also going to get paid 4 times as much. i dont think furcal is going to get 10 mil a year. the opening offer from Chicago is going to be 4 years, averaging 9 million a year.

  19. this past year was the wake up call on injuries. letting it happen to you once is a mistake. twice is just plain stupidity. you can't prevent injuries from happening to your team, but you can have backup plans for when they do happen (extra quality starter, etc).
  20. The only excuse Hendry has for not making the playoffs next season will be injuries.
  21. the real question is how fast Furcal accepts/declines. if he declines and starts messing around looking for another year or million, then things are going to get interesting for Hendry. how long does he wait before moving on to Plan B?
  22. the only way Pie is getting dealt is if we get Pierre (or some other long term CF solution). then he becomes a good bargaining chip.
