  1. You're right, and that makes me sad. Has anybody told him that you can get quality offensive players that play good defense? (Bradley) It doesn't have to be a one or the other type of thing, right? So let's set the over/under on ABs for Neifi this year at 550? Neifi was going to start anyways. He got starters money. If we snagged Furcal, Neifi would get his PA at 2B. All we did today is limit the damage JH tries to do to this team. Neifi was a blow to the 2006 and 2007 Cubs already inflicted upon us by our GM. Theo in '07!! Please don't make me think about Neifi in 2007. I've already convinced myself that we'll have a different manager then. If used correctly, he 'could' be a useful player (worth about .5 mill, not 2.5). Yeah, I'm just thinking worst case scenario. Only 2 more seasons, at most, of his bs at the dish. Hopefully only 1 more season of Dusty the Clown and Hendry the Moran.

  3. You're right - it was up about 10 minutes ago too :? You know what that means. \:D/
  4. This is a good thing. Hopefully Pierre is snatched away from Hendry as well and we can get some decent and not overpaid players on this team.
  5. Well, the deal isn't sealed yet, but I am one happy camper right now. 50M/5, or thereabouts, was ridiculous. Thank God someone saved Hendry from himself. Furcal was a second tier player who showed little improvement, but a lot of consistency. What he would have given us was not worth 10M/year. Cedeno time, baby! Chah-Ching!! I'm a little upset that this may sour Hendry going after Bradley, but keeping the 5 year monstrosity off the payroll still has me grinning. :D
  6. Forget Furcal. Me likey Adam Dunn. Dunn! Dunn! Dunn! I hope you all get the point.
  7. Neifi: "you're going to love Dusty. he'll never let some young punk take your spot." Raffy: "no &%&$?!" Neifi: "i could get caught with a dead hooker in the dugout and still start over Cedeno." Raffy: "what about alcohol?" Neifi: "dude. how do you think we handled losing 83 games last year?" Raffy: "word."
  8. yeah to me this isnt the worst case scenario. adding bradley and jones would be fine by me. here is the worst case scenario in my opinon: SS perez 2B walker 1B lee 3B ramirez RF burnitz C barrett RF murton CF patterson that looks like a 79 win team to me.
  9. Reportedly, Furcal is torn, in part, because he likes the Dodgers 3 year offer. Specifically, the idea of 13MM per year and having the ability to be a FA in 3 years versus the stability of being locked in (at the same salary) for 5 years. I think the Cubs need to restructure their offer so that it includes a player option in year three. I also think they need to increase the money by a million or 1.5. It's pretty funny how all that "i wanna play with my countrymen" and like my manager bs just went out the window when the money being offered jumped. if he decide on LA, I won't miss him one bit. If he stays with Atlanta, we probably missed out on a "good dude." :)
  10. Why would you want Wilson? The guy had a .299 OBP last year. Might as well put Neifi at SS. 2B/SS. It doesn't matter. Neifi is a real team player. he'll start in whatever MIF position you want.
  11. It is certainly not much of a drop, I don't have the stats in front of me but i'm pretty certain Walker gets on base at a better clip than Soriano and their defense is probably equal. And Soriano knocks in more runs, scores more runs and hits more homers. OBP is not the only thing in baseball, unless you bat 1st or 2nd. You need run producers to knock in the OBP guys. Even billy Beane acknowledges that. I wasn't aware that this team had an SLG problem. edit: In 2005 we ranked 2/16 in SLG and 11/16 in OBP among NL teams. I'm pretty sure our problems lie more with OBP than SLG.
  12. How about a beer? I'll need it after watching the cubs dish out that many years.
  13. Plenty of money? Not when you throw 3M at Eyre, 4M at Howry, 3M at Rusch, and 3M at Neifi. Throw in Furcal at 10-13M and we're looking at Jockstrap Jones or Burnitz. Your numbers are off, according to Cot's Contracts. Your numbers account for 13 Million. Cot has the numbers at 2.5 for Howry, 2.7 for Eyre, 2.5 for Neifi, and 2.75 for Rusch. That is 10.45 million. 2.5 million is nothing to sneeze at. Those numbers don't account for the signing bonuses and incentives. I don't know if those bonuses are evenly prorated or not. signing bonuses and incentives: Eyre - 1M (signing bonus) + 2.8M (incentives) Howry - 1.5M (signing bonus) Neifi - ? Rusch - 1M (incentives) even if Eyre doesn't collect any of his incentives (unlikely that he'll close with both Dempster and Howry), he'll probably make his appearance incentives, totaling 0.9M (.3M/year over contract life). add in the signing bonuses prorated and we have a grand total of 1.5M in incentives/bonuses for 2006. that's a whopping 1M difference from your calcs. No big deal.
  14. I don't get it. What does Oakland get? This sounds like bs to me. Lay off the sauce, Phil.
  15. All Hendry has to do is run things by his bosses at the last minute. That's the norm for GMs in baseball. Owners don't typically micromanage, and the Trib. Co. is no different. Hendry has said repeatedly that he's never lacked the money/support from the Trib. to make a move he wanted to make. Either he's lying or we can take that at face value.
  16. They'd better bring back Nomar if Furcal is going to demand that type of money. No team in MLB wants Nomar to play SS. That should tell us something. The only place he'd fit is 2B (since 1B and 3B are filled for us), which is just about as physically strenuous. It's just not going to work.
  17. Well, if we're going to go with the experience argument, Grady Sizemore had 138 ML AB in 2004 before taking the leadoff spot in 2005. Murton had 140 ML AB this last season. Plate discipline doesn't fly out the window b/c of a lack of experience, and Murton has better plate discipline than Sizemore does.
  18. Hendry is talking about an extension for DLee, so I don't even know why this topic keeps being brought up. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell of Lee being traded this offseason.
  19. Plenty of money? Not when you throw 3M at Eyre, 4M at Howry, 3M at Rusch, and 3M at Neifi. Throw in Furcal at 10-13M and we're looking at Jockstrap Jones or Burnitz.
  20. They were talking over on the Braves.Scout message board about Raffy getting booed at the Hawks game. Seems Atlanta fans already think he's gone. haha, way to push him further from re-signing with the Braves. Thank you, Atlanta!
  21. NO FREAKING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's only a few untouchables on this club this offseason: DLee, Aramis, Zambrano, and Prior. Everyone else is fair game in my book for the right deal. Untouchables are overrated. I'd trade anyone for the right deal. Would you seriously turn down Arod for DLee? I wouldnt. Or Dlee for Vlad and Chone FIggins. I'd do that so fast it'd make heads spin. EVERYBODY is available for the "right price" Yeah, but there is no way Abreu is worth giving up Z, if only b/c of age.
  22. That's the biggest problem with targeting a bigger name FA as your number one priority. The dominoes fall after he makes his decision, which usually eats up a good chunk of time. Hendry must have known this, so hopefully he has something big in the works if Furcal falls through.
  23. 1. At this point, I won't cry about that, but I'd rather play Cedeno at SS and save 10-12M per year. 2. It looks like Cedeno isn't going to play 2B in Venezuela. If Furcal is signed, Cedeno has pretty much no chance to play under Baker with Neifi around. We might as well get something for him. 3. I don't think that's enough to get Zito. Beane doesn't have to move Zito this offseason. 4. Wood has a NTC (always mentioned when the Wood trade talk occurs) and I don't see him loving Philly.
