  1. In the future can we please have threads that don't talk about Vance's wild butt hair? Thanks in advance. CardsFanInChiTown
  2. Since the MLB owners will have to pick up the tab for this one I bet they are pooping their pants over this development.
  3. I thought the Cards had offered 4/$48, not 4/$40? At this point who knows.
  4. They're in the same class offensively. Defensively, though, Mench is a LF who would be masquerading as a RF. Kearns is a top RF defender. I also think Kearns has a higher ceiling. I really can't back that statement up tho.
  5. I don't know the dimensions of the new Busch Stadium, but Burnett hasn't quite been all that impressive on the road in his career. Add the 2 TJS and I think 10-12 million is absolutely insane to consider. No question, the numbers that are being thrown around are pretty freaky. But the Cards need another front line starter for the post season and AJ might be the answer. The Cards have a window of opportunity they are working with. Truth be told tho, I'd rather have another impact bat like Dunn.
  6. I understand where you are coming from. The only thing that gives me hope is Duncan (our pitching coach) is great with vertern pitching.
  7. Yeah, if the Cubs could really do that deal I think it's a no brainer. If they find something better they can always trade him or keep him around in case Murton flops.
  8. What is kearns going to make in 06?
  9. Call me crazy but this is the first time during the whole Burnett sweepstakes that I've felt we are the favorites. I think A.J. wants to make it work.
  10. Looks like ESPN is backing off. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2248966 They also took down the main page headline.
  11. No, I think there are a number of moves that can be made via trades. Plus, as you pointed out, the Cubs have lots of money left to spend. The offseason is not lost. I have a feeling that Hendry is going to pull off a trade (or more) by the end of the week. If handled correctly, the Cubs can be a strong team in 2006. I agree with this post - you guys have a good core. The Cubs just really need an impact bat in the OF.
  12. Honestly I don't know what the Cards are doing. Hector Luna is a better option... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7084
  13. Guys like Burnett also get a lot of pressure from the union (ie players) to set the market.
  14. Gammons just said the Cards offer was 4 years at 48 Million. Wow.
  15. I think this story is going to have more legs. Cards have a chance to up their offer.
  16. Get Kearns for RF, Wilkerson/Bradley for CF (patterson + prospect(s)), Lugo for SS (maybe)and we're set. Even with Cedeno/Walker Wilkerson/Bradley Kearns Collectively that is significant improvement to last years lineup. Wilkerson Walker 2B Lee Ramirez Kearns Barrett Murton Cedeno SS or Wilkerson Lugo SS Lee Ramirez Kearns Barrett Murton Cedeno 2B or Lugo SS Walker 2B Lee Bradley Ramirez Kearns Barrett Murton etc. You can really play around with lineup Going in to 06 with Murton, Cedeno and Kearns is a pretty big leap of faith.
  17. This would be a good deal for the Cubs. However, they would still need another impact bat. To get Aberu it's going to take a very good pitcher.[/i]
  18. Pissed off? Happy? Dissappointed? Confused as to how to feel? What's the general consensus over there right now? Dissappointed and denial. Some "06 is over" type stuff. I feel relief and dissappointment all at the same time. Just move Rick Ankiel back to pitcher and start him instead. He'll win 20 games and have a 3.20 ERA or something like that. Anyone else feel like even though the Cubs have had a mediocre offseason, it's being made better just from everything else that's happening (i.e. Burnett leaving the NL, Dodgers throwing a mint at Furcal, everyone overpaying even more for relievers than we did, Cards possibly signing Jones and Boone, etc.)? I think the cards will make a "splash" this offseason. I actually wouldn't mind signing Boone to a minor league deal.
  19. Isn't that such a wierd sensation? I felt the exact same thing with Furcal. Two opposite emotions at the same time. Its funny, the cards talk threads have the same tone as they did here with furcal. Lots of "He took the money and pased up a better situation" stuff.
