  1. trade him to a perennial doormat so that he can pile up the AB's. I could see him having a soriano type career path.
  2. I disagree. Soriano does not appear to be able to adjust readily if the pitch is not what he is expecting. ALSO, at this time he does not seem to be guessing right all that often. I am fairly confident he'll come around, but boy is he painful to watch right now, at the plate and more specifically in the field.
  3. No it isn't sorry... no it ISSSSNNNN'TT (Sniff, whimper...) Even cubbie blind fans like myself know Sosa sampled
  4. soooooo...... what was our runs per game before soriano Hopgate? After? Hum
  5. I was listening to it on gamecast Even my wife wondered what was wrong "figures figures figures. Just "friggin" figures." I think were my exact words Now I know why I always hated that hop. He's like a racehorse. So tuned and tight that a bad wind can cause him to hurt himself. You know what they do to lame horses, don't you?
  6. No Never Nyet Viva la difference. Let the AL keep it
  7. He does seem to be swinging from the heels He does seem to be late on pitches (like he changes his mind) His swing sure does not look smooth, like someone who plays the game for a living, more like a kid in a batting cage I prefer him in the middle of the lineup. I think he tries to hard too be the sparkplug leading off.
  8. anyone else having probs with gameday audio? It USED to work.
  9. That was an absolute crackup. Great angle, from behind him. Gave you a real good impression of exactly how wicked a ML pitch it. How does anyone hit that?
  10. They just said on ESPN 1000 that the cubbies are one of 3 teams interested in Reed
  11. I loved listening to stoney. He mostly talked baseball and actually had a clue. Sure, he had a big mouth...
  12. Marshall didn't start today - he was scheduled, right???? CONSPIRACY ALERT
  13. That comment in the Philly Inquirer just came out of left field and was completely unexpected. Their baseball writers are really good (IMO) but can be alarmist. It was said with such flat confidence.... in an out of town paper.... weird.
  14. I am now officially part of the problem: in today's Philly paper there was a blurb in the baseball notes that said "the Roberts deal is done, the Orioles are just deciding what pitchers they want in return" There. I feel ashamed and very very dirty.
  15. please end this pain. At this point closure is the only escape.
  16. In an effort to maintain the performance and stability of the NorthSiteBaseball website, today the Brian Roberts trade thread has been moved it own site and dedicated infrastructure.
  17. Until tomorrow. The only way this deal (and this thread) is dead is if Roberts is traded to another team, until then it's alive and well. or until Roberts is actually dead He can always have kids. This could be a generation spanning quest
  18. 'Stros? O.k., I wish a little less future success for him. It's a high return signing for them. You figure, nobody has more info on his development, attitude, etc. than do the cubbies. They felt it was time to part ways (and it appears it was mutual). I only think there is about a 5% chance he returns to his past success. And maybe only about a 10-15% chance he returns to being a productive MLB pitcher. If it ends up being the 'Stros, at least I won't feel ambivalent about him, rather I will despise him.
  19. Prior may pitch better with me on base, but..... how did they get there? think about it To me, prior was always too much of a nibbler for a guy with his stuff. That suggests a certain mental makeup. A certain lack of confidence, or killer instinct. Good pitchers challenge you, but make you swing at their pitches at their count.
  20. Ah, durn. I think we all knew this was coming. In a way, this is a relief. I am SOOO tired of hoping that he would get it together. Now let someone else worry. Potential is a 2 edged sword. I hope he has a solid career. I was never that fond of Prior. This simplifies things. Time to move on
  21. IN THIS CASE I think you might be able to violate a fellow team in a trade. Endy is too little... and that is not because I like Marquis. Pitching is so uneven, it seems like every year there are at least a 1/2 dozen guys who have near career years in wins/innings, etc. There are so few consistent pitchers. In a way I think you have to be optimistic when trading for a pitcher... COULD be be lightening in a bottle for a year? Marquis? Could someone convince themselves of that? If they try REALLY HARD??? The answer is yes. Especially for the Mets who need to get lucky.... they are absolutely pitcher poor. I like the idea of dealing w/ the Mets. If Endy is too little, what would be the logical upgrade??
  22. Um Even and Open? sleight of? and Under? Give me a second...
  23. I'll fund you $10 for the first round. Liquor him up... get the story.. at ANY COST
  24. Unless we are moving one of Howry, Marmol or Wuertz, I dont understand why we would want Lahey. He'd be nothing more then a throw-in in a trade and that team would still have to keep him on the big league roster. They could have just picked him themselves if they wanted him that bad. Then asked the Cubs for some other prospect. I think I am going to stop trying to understand anything we do at this point. Well, the coobs went out of their way to make this deal/pick up this guy. Either they truly do see something in him or he is just a piece we are moving to someone else as part of a future trade.
  25. AND he'd have a solid, injury free year AND the sox will win the series again AND they will go on and on about how WISE the R. Sox were to sign him AND Kerry will say polite, but disparaging things about his old team. Make that patronizing AND I just can't take it anymore
