  1. Surely there are deals forthcoming? As Pie would be our only Lefty (if he starts, of course...)
  2. I just hope the ON cubs show up instead of the OFF cubs. They are so darn inconsistent. I just have nightmares that the free-swinging strike zone avoiding team will show and I'll have to watch the games with the sound off and head in hands...
  3. probably already stated, but for $8 you can watch a month's worth of games on MLB video. I don't get cable at all at home (I'm a Luddite) but I do have broadband (a very selective Luddite). I watched the game last night in bed on my laptop and it wasn't at all bad.
  4. +1 Heck, plus 100 yrs.
  5. No, his ERA is abnormally low given how he has actually pitched. He's walking guys, not striking them out but guys aren't scoring. That's luck. His peripherals suck for the year and they suck in August. His ERA sucks for the year but is good in August. The August ERA is the outlier. Steve Trachsel sucks. Understand. The #'s are not in his favor. Again, I hope his luck holds. But really, even if his ERA ends up being +/- 4.00 as a cub for the remainder of the year, he's still a durable starting pitcher. I like those.
  6. This just sounds like the usual negative reaction to pretty much everything Hendry does. I'm not a Hendry defender. I personally would also have done this trade in a sec.
  7. He hasn't been good, he's been lucky. 2.something ERA in August was done with 18 walks and 8 K. 1.53 WHIP as well, puts his peripherals right in-line with the rest of his crappy season. That is in something like 30 innings, hardly a random sample. and he has been going 6-7 per start... Really, he's not sexy but he has been getting it done of late What part of 1.52 WHIP and only 8 k's in those 30 innings do you consider it getting it done? Goony said hes been getting by on alot of luck, which those numbers prove. The ball gets put into play an awful lot when hes pitching, and he walks quite a few, thats not a good combination. Lucky for a month? Lucky for 30 innings? Maybe he'll stay lucky? Would you argue that ERA is just as valid a measure? Cuz for a month, it's been quite good. I hope his luck holds. Come on, this is a starting pitcher who has been getting into the 6th and 7th inning. I liked Cherry ALOT, but this really seems like an easy trade.

  9. a starting pitcher who has been good of late for bits and pieces... Um I'd do it.
  10. and that will make him the 2nd Canadian in the HOF I think So, who is the first?
  11. Posada has slowed down some of late. He's still having a great year. I'll be honest though, I hate hate hate him. Mostly cuz he is a Yankee and a long term yankee. Most guys I could forgive and forget fairly quickly, it would be harder w/ Posada. We seem to have alot of decent young catching talent on the farms/Soto, surely one of them could be our starter sooner rather than later? I guess for a stretch run rental, I could stomach Posada. Reluctantly
  12. cuz they ARE in it. They are incredibly pitching poor right now. They need arms arms arms. Plus I think Rowand is a FA (next year?) and are negotiating with him. Would YOU sign him to a 4-5 year contract? You could imagine them trading him to another team as a rental and then having him go into the FA market without strings. They have a kid behind Rowand who is pretty good (Bourn), certainly an acceptable replacement. I would not be at all shocked to see him move. I think he would be a v. good fit here.
  13. I live in philly Pat is about the most hated athlete in the city right now. He is almost comatose at the plate. And he is sorrounded by v. good hitters. He should be seeing good pitches. However, the book on him is written in STONE. Off speed within his zone, he'll swing, and miss. He reminds me of a snapping turtle. It doesn't really matter what you dangle in front of him, just that it be within their field of vision. If yes=then snap. He is also a bit of a prima dona (I know, he is an athlete). Nobody likes him, other team mates, reporters, fans... you name it. He could be had for.... um... you gonna finish that beer? If not, I might have a RFr for you.... I think we should target Rowand instead. He ALSO could be had for fairly cheap (as in an arm, any arm). The phillies are still in the race, but they gotta get another arm or 2, anywhere, to have a chance to compete.
  14. Sure we can. We are in shooting distance and lots of stuff that was aweful earlier is better recently. D is better Timely hitting has improved Rosters have solidified Baserunning??? well.... All phases of pitching, starting middle and closing, seems to be taking form THis is starting to look like a baseball team rather than a bad third grade collage. Of course, this could all fall apart this week. That's Cubs baseball.
  15. check out Barrett's line yesterday 0-4 a passed ball 3 steals ouch
  16. bout to talk about Griffy to the cubs on Mike and Mike I'll summarize later.
  17. The details are in... http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/weblog/2007/06/padres_get_barrett.html FWIW, I think Barrett's trade value is a little overrated on here. Agreed. But that's part of being a fan
  18. actually, I was asked to kick in the cash and I agreed.
  19. Yeah, this is a bunch of crap but I'm not really interested in getting into it now that he's off the team. If you think a few past balls a year is worth having a black hole in your lineup, good luck with that. He is a decent hitter What does he do well as a catcher.... waiting.
  20. I am thrilled Barrett isn't on the team. What we get back is really not that critical. Barrett was a ball-player who happened to play catcher, and not very well. You cannot afford to have a catcher who doesn't do catcher stuff well. That was him.
  21. why? What's so special about Barrett? Getting rid of him is bliss. He has no business starting for the cubs.
  22. Your sig and the last line make all the rest of those possible valid points easily questioned by rational viewers. Yeah, I should change that! I was 2/3rds right, eh?
  23. Love e-patt, but to get a big league arm for him? Oh yes.
