  1. It is? Hill has been fantastic today, imo. He's also going to lose this game.
  2. Um, yeah..... we're not going to get a hit today.
  3. I really don't think he has a clue where the ball is or where it's going. After going 1-0, he should have just kept the bat on his shoulder and prayed for a walk.
  4. Before this year started, Murton was a career .300 hitter in the major leagues. At 25 years old. Not only is this year's sample size too small, but his ABs have been completely sporadic. He's had no chance to develop a rhythm. The kid will be a very productive OF as soon as he's back in a lineup regularly. Unfortunately for him (and us) he is right-handed. They aren't going to give him regular time even if Jones were to be dealt. He should be traded, imo.... what could we get for a Zambrano/Murton/Marmol package? I can almost guarantee you Hendry is on the phone, and in June we will hear the old "We tried to get something done earlier, but no one wants to make deals in May" line. BTW, count me out for the Milledge deal. He has a nice ceiling, but I put way too much energy into rooting for CPatt to do it for his clone.
  5. my thoughts exactly Wow, guys. I think that was easily the right move. With a runner on 2nd, you pitch to the guy with the smallest chance of getting a base hit. Bay's extra-base power means nothing in that spot.
  6. Kaiser Chiefs, good band. Now what the hell... I said the exact same thing before his last AB and no one notices.... Oh, well...story of my life :D
  7. It pinballed off of the ump's feet and died in perfect position for Paulino. This one wasn't Soriano's fault.
  8. Not trying to single you out, but what's with people writing this? "Of" makes no sense whatsoever. It's "have". yeah, but this is a game thread, not english class. =D> Look, I don't care how you talk, I was just asking a question.

  10. That bunt attempt was a terribly desperate move. I actually felt bad for the guy.
  11. We already have a RH dominated lineup. We are not going to trade Jones to make room for another righty. Right or wrong, that's the way this organization thinks. I still think Murton will be a star one day. The kid is 25 and has hit .300 from the time he got here. That doesn't happen too often. His natural approach at the plate is fantastic, and I have a feeling the power will come. A lot of guys with his skill set add power around age 26-27. I could easily see some .330/.420/.500 years down the road. That said, the cubs won't use him this year OR in the future unless we add a big LH bat in the infield. 1st, 3rd and C are covered, so we'd have to add a big LH SS or 2B, and I'm at a loss for who that could be.
  12. That has been discussed. The guys in Mississippi mentioned it as well. But he really is a good defensive catcher. My guess is that he'll be traded, but it won't happen unless the Braves get what they really want. He definitely won't be moved for Jacque Jones. The Braves might take Pie and Ohman for him. The Braves may very well value him differently from the rest of the league. We here should be very familiar with that. The fact is, league-wide his stock has fallen. I'm in no way stating that he doesn't have a bright future, I'm just saying that he isn't viewed as a can't miss prospect anymore. I also think many here undervalue Jacque Jones. It's all subjective, but when people act like I'm proposing a Cedeno + cash for Jesus Christ deal, it comes off as a little ridiculous. Can you provide some sort of evidence for the fact that his stock has fallen so dramatically over the year that we could get him for a player that, apparently, no one wants? Baseball America has him among the top 40 prospects in the game and he's still the Braves #1 prospect. He's off to a good start this year, and the reason his numbers were so poor last year was that his wrist was injured for the whole first half and he batted .197. As a prospect, I would say he's probably about equal to Pie (Pie is higher, but not as much as you'd think) http://www.baseballprospectus.com/pecota/SALTALAMA19850502A.php I assume you are familiar with Pie's projected WARP and major league equivalents. Salty has a nice upside, I will not deny that, but to imply that a contender would laugh at a cheap Jacque Jones to fill out their lineup..... You say he obviously has no value, while I think he certainly does. I have a feeling we'll find out soon. Honestly, I wouldn't pay too much attention to those, since they are skewed by the fact that he did so awful last year while trying to play through a wrist injury. Let's see how he does this year while healthy. And I never said that Jacque Jones doesn't have value, or that a team would laugh at Jacque Jones. Unlike a lot of people on this site, I actually think Jones is a useful player, and he's probably underrated at the moment. But I don't think he's worth a premium prospect, and I don't think the Cubs will get one for him (unless they're trading with the Pirates). Well, then, I find it curious that you used my idea as an example of how ridiculous trade proposals can get around here. My case is that I don't see Salty as a "premium prospect" while just about everyone else here does. I see a good hitter who is blocked and will likely end up at first base, who could be a decent regular for a few years.

  15. That's why I laugh when anyone brings up a reliever's ERA.
  16. very good point I was thinking that too. Then I realized anyone who can't pick up the sarcasm in a Jacque Jones and Cesar Izturis for ARod trade, is a moron and I don't care if they are apart of NSBB. Now if you wanna talk about the joke being overused, I can get on board with that. On sports talk radio though and several message boards I've seen, people propose trades like that all the time-and they are completely serious. This board isn't exactly immune from that sort of thing http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?p=1296556#1296556 Excuse me, but what exactly is crazy about that? Salty's stock has fallen considerably. If you disagree with the idea, fine. Don't imply that I don't know what I'm talking about, please. Salty's stock has fallen so much the Braves called him up to Atlanta. I'm confused. Are premier prospects the only ones called up to the major leagues? Look, the guy is Pie's age and hit .230 in AA last year. He had ONE GOOD YEAR in high A ball. He was a top prospect two years ago. He is still a prospect, but his stock has fallen. I fail to see what is controversial about this. If his name was Frank Smith, no one would even know who he is.

  18. Whether or not Towers is bad (he is) really doesn't take away from the fact that he's basically just telling the truth. Sosa is in the majors because he can hit mistakes for homeruns. That's it. He has looked absolutely terrible at the plate. Remember the summer of 2004, when Sosa was flailing at almost everything? He's worse than that now.
  19. What, exactly, is Izturis' value to this team again?
  20. Yes, it does, because 90% of baseball is right handed. And where did this idea come from that he cant hit righties, anyway? He's batting in the upper .280's with an OBP of .350 lifetime against righties. Granted, it is better against lefties...but it's not like he cant hit righties The fact is, the organizational philosophy is that you make a RHP face your toughest lefties, if only to disrupt his rhythm. This is not going to change. We have to live with it.
