  1. If that happens that'll be twice in 2 years that the Astros have shown a committment to winning and dealt prospects for an impact bat. That. Would. Suck. Maybe instead of holding onto our prospects until their value plummets, we should be a bit more aggressive. If The Astros are a possibility, that means the Reds are willing to deal within the division. That would suck however, look where it got the Astros. They didn't reach the WS last year after getting Beltran and then lost him as a FA. Even tho Dunn is not going to be a FA after this year, one would have to ask whether or not the Astros will be able to afford him with the money problems the Stros have that we keep hearing about. Houston didn't give up much to get Beltran. They gave up Dotel. I don't recalll if anyone else came from Houston, as I know the major prospect came from Oakland (Teahen). I would have loved to have had Beltran as a one year rental, because it got Houston to the playoffs, to a Game 7. That's the goal; they had a chance to get into the tournament and came within one game of the WS. If trading a couple of top prospects not named Felix Pie gets you Dunn, then pull the trigger. Although it's great for the players involved and for the community, I don't really care how many championships Iowa and West Tenn win (with all due respect to DJAXX :D ), because, while I don't advocate gutting the farm system Yankee-style, you have to try and win every year. The organization owe it to the fans and the players. Houston also gave up Buck who is the catcher for the Royals right now. He's not much with the bat, but is a very good defensive catcher. Ah, yeah, I remember now. Thanks, Vance. Any luck with your source?

  3. Sorry, itb, I beat you to it! :P who's itb? sorry, i spelled your name wrong.
  4. No way Hendry lets Dunn get moved in-division without at least trying to beat the offer....
  5. I would give Hill, Pinto and Dope for him...
  6. Can Dunn even play 1B? Go Vance! Find things out for us!
  7. As long as he stays healthy, sure. But he's even more injury prone than Kerry is, and he's a FA at the end of the year. His road splits stink, too.
  8. Paging Bruce Miles, Bruce Miles... Someone get the Bruce-Signal ready!

  10. There goes my overly elaborate conspiracy theory about Kotsay's extension. :(
  11. The first person in the thread posed it as a question, and every poster after said that it won't happen, however great it would be if it did. No one said it would happen. well...it might be feasible if we offered more that just Patterson. Do the 'Nats need help anywhere else? Maybe a 5th starter?
  12. I would die laughing if Bowden agreed to any deal giving up Wilkerson for only Patterson. I would laugh condescendingly if he agreed to Corey+Rusch for Wilk.
  13. Normally in that situation the A's would give the Cubs permission to negotiate an extension with Kotsay on their terms. The A's gave Kotsay a NTC through 2006 per Rotoworld. I know it's not Hendry's M.O. to negotiate during the season, so I thought maybe Beane did it for him. The NTC, however, kind of bursts my bubble unless it was the sort of thing where Beane and Kotsay agreed on certain teams they could shop him to. Dang, too. Kotsay was about the only feasable upgrade out there (I don't think Dunn is available.)
  14. Okay, I'm going to throw something really silly out there. I know it's not the NFL, but is it completely out of the realm of possibility that Beane would still trade Kotsay despite the extension? -Hendry didn't want to trade for a rental, but wanted a longer term solution -Hairston is definetly not an organizational favorite -Peyton is really, really redundant for Oakland as they stand right now. -Oakland doesn't really need Kotsay this year unless they really think they are going to challenge for the WC. So is it dumb that Hendry asked Beane to extend Kotsay before dealing for him? Did Oakland give Kotsay a NTC?
  15. as long as they keep 1-6 in the order the same, I'm happy.
  16. Vance, That article brings up a very good point: Kotsay was the best outfielder that was definetly on the market. Now, if Hendry wants to make a move, I'm not sure which direction he goes in.
  17. The key is keeping Hairston/Walker 1-2. They've done a great job getting onbase and putting pressure on the opposing pitcher. My feeling on the team is this: I think they have one good winning streak left in them before September. It has to come sooner rather than later. The post ASB schedule does help. 4 vs PIT and 3 vs CIN before a series in Busch. They absolutely, positively cannot afford a losing streak longer than 3 the rest of the season. If they have another slide, they're done. I said after Friday's game, they have to go 10-2 over their next 12 to get themselves back in the thick of the race. After that, they need to make sure they win series, and hopefully rip off one more streak before September. If they can enter September within 3 of the Wild Card, I think we're in good shape.
  18. I like that he's been looking to RF more lately.
  19. So, having guys on base puts pressure on a pitcher, and you end up scoring runs without hitting the ball over the fence?? Whoa, I have the vapors. Gotta sit down... :D :D
  20. So tell me again why Dusty can't get over Hairston missing a few signs? I absolutely love the top of this lineup. It should not change.
  21. At least Baker is keeping our 1-2 hitters the same. The higher OBP has only produced, oh 16 runs over 2 games. Good to see he remembered how the team won 7 straight earlier in the year. Lineup consistency!
  22. let me go on record saying that would be pretty stupid and petty of the Cubs to run a decent leadoff option out of town.
