  1. If Hendry had a different way of doing things, they probably would have already been done. Neither Murton or Greenberg are going to be starting, I'd assume. This doesn't make any sense at all. I'll wait to hear what Jim says, but I sense disaster. I don't like this one bit. I'm with you. I hope I'm wrong but I see the kids getting hurt in this one. No way Hendry is that daft when it comes to player development...something is up, big time. He did it to Cedeno. Either both agreed that Ronny would sit on the bench or at the very minimum, he knew Dusty wasn't going to start him. But that doesn't matter. Just by calling him up hurt him. Maybe Hendry is setting the stage for Baker's firing. Something like: "I told you to play the kids, and you didn't. See you later. Thanks for 2003"
  2. Maybe. It's telling that we have holes in LF, CF and SS, and now have the minor league's best options for all three (minus Pie, who is hurt).

  4. Maybe this move precludes a trade....Payton was sent down today, Graves before he was traded, etc...
  5. Oh. My. God. What is happening? BTW, I didn't think Dubois had any options left...
  6. Ramirez certainly gave a crap tonight. 3 RBI including a 2-run homer. Agreed. ARam has handled himself very professionally over the past 2.5 years. It's why he's my favorite player. Sod the rest of this lot, though.
  7. As soon as he threw the pitch my jaw dropped. How could a pitcher miss by THAT much to the best hitter on their team??
  8. BTW, love your screen name, TRD. I tried to get the gmail address therobotdevil@gmail.com, but every variation on it was taken. :(
  9. You know it's going to be bad but you just can't prepare yourself. That's a AAA lineup. At best. And only because Ramirez and Walker are in it.
  10. That might be. By the way, I think Mark Kotsay has a $6.5M player option for 2006. There has been some speculation that he'd opt for free agency aftre the 2005 season in hopes of getting a 3 year $16-18M range deal. I believe that $6.5M figure may go up to $7.5M in the event he's traded. I'd imagine that the Cubs picking up or extending that option would be a precondition of trading for Kotsay at this point. Given our play of late, would it be wise to trade for a 1 yr rental when we're 7 back and trailing 5 teams?
  11. Or, Gammons is full of beans. Either scenerio could work. Just looking at his OBP in a vacuum, Payton doesn't appear to be a prototypical Beane guy. He might be destined for San Diego. Perhaps Beane is interested in defense/bench presence more than OBP from Jay
  12. Or, Gammons is full of beans. Either scenerio could work. Very true. And I wouldn't be suprised by either.
  13. JC- someone in the Gammons thread said posted a rotoworld blurb saying that Payton is about to be moved to Oakland for a reliever. That means that a Kotsay trade to someone is imminent.
  14. A Duke has been on this exchange since it was founded! We founded this exchange!
  15. I think you are over simplifying the problem. Dusty is one problem, I don't care if you think he's a big problem, but he's still just one problem. We need guys who can hit and know how to play the game. Or do you really think Burnitz is capable of having an MVP year under a new manager? We need players. A new manager means this team will still suck just suck with a new manager. Agreed. Dusty is one of several major flaws with this team. Unfortunatley, Dusty exacerbates many of the player's flaws by failing to put them in a position to succeed, over, and over, and over...
  16. My .02 cents: Dusty is a problem. He's one of the main problems. But removing him on it's own does not make the Cubs contenders. All Dusty does it exacerbate the flaws of this team to an extreme. Removing Dusty probably would stabalize the team, and we'd play a few above .500. But until the 3 black holes in our lineup are fixed, we're not a playoff team. EDIT: I do want Baker fired, fwiw...
  17. That is an unbelievable joke of a lineup.
  18. Rozner is such a hack. We discussed that move in transactions already :P Seriously, though-well done Hoops!
  19. It doesn't matter if the team is losing him. It matters how long Hendry feels he has to be loyal to his choice. I do not want my team going in the tank, even if it means Baker's gone. I want them to make one more push at it. Add a player, and if it doesn't work, can him in November for underachieving 2 yars in a row with good players. I just worry that if we do can him, it would come far too late to make a difference this season.
  20. Not necessarily. What if I told you that the Cubs were eyeing Carl Everett? What if I told you dinosaurs never existed? :P
  21. At this point, I'm not apprehensive about releasing half the bench and calling up AAA guys. Our bench is beyond bad. I think McClain would be a fine option, and wouldn't mind giving him a shot to be a late inning PH or occasional spot starter.
  22. I am in a really dicey mood today, I have to admit. Watching Dusty orchestrate losing with his unique knack for total ineptitiude has my nerves frayed. My wall of optimism has finally begun to crack, and I have been on the warpath tonight. I am usually pretty amiable, and I apologize if I have come off as beligerant today. I'll be much better when Dusty gets fired. 2007?
  23. Where do i sign? ACtually, the more I think about that the two arms are probably Hill and Nolasco. Still like the deal?
  24. Wow, being right feels good. So, that being said, What type of names do you guys think Patterson + dope could get us? I'm no Hoops, but I'd say... Those 2 + 2 arms gets us Dunn Those 2 plus 1 arm and Lewis gets us Kotsay. Those 2 gets us Huff. Those 2 plus 2 arms gets us Mensch. Those 2 gets us Preston Wilson (shudder) Those 2 plus an arm could get us Vernon Wells.
