  1. Ramirez better step up quickly and snap out of his slump..
  2. Aramis started last season with similar stuggles. He'll be okay.
  3. Ooooh. Good one.
  4. Not a trade per se, but DFA'ing David Ortiz was a baaaad move by the Twins.
  5. 93 Starts between 2001-2003.
  6. i don't see how that's all that bad. spivey had 230 at bats with the brewers in 2004 and did pretty well, then in 2005 he was terrible and they got rid of him counsell hit 240/330/315 in 473 at bats with the brewers in 2004, then re-signed with the dbacks for the 2005 season overbay had two nice seasons with milwaukee, but wasn't really anything special. he was traded to the blue jays for Dave Bush, Gabe Gross, Zach Jackson. chad moeller sucks chris capuano was bad in 2004, but had a 3.99 era in 219 ip in 2005. however, he was pretty DIPS-lucky and should be expected to decline this season. jorge de la rosa walked so many guys out of the brewer pen in 2005 that i dont understand how the cubs failed to acquire him -------------------- richie sexson got hurt. however, there wasn't really much of a reason to believe he was an injury risk going into the season, and his performance in 2005 showed that there isn't much reason to believe that, had he stayed healthy, he would have done anything besides put up a typical richie sexson season. because of this, i think it's unfair to say that the diamondbacks made a bad trade. I think it was a bad trade because the D'Backs didn't get much for that move, wheras the Brewers got a couple good seasons from Capuano and Overbay, plus turned Overbay into 3 more prospects. Counsell, Spivey and De la Rosa all suck, but based on what the D'Backs got vs what Milwaukee was able to do, it's a pretty lopsided trade.
  7. Also more than 10 yearss ago. :D :P Good point. How about: David Wells for Mike Sirotka Ritchie Sexson for half the Brewer's infield
  8. Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson
  9. You stole my post. I was just going to say, if you're going to bunt him over, take a couple pitches and see if the fast, basestealing specialist can steal 2nd before you do it.
  10. Because Neifi is just a run producing machine...
  11. So...is Ramirez available to PH today? He needs to take up yoga. Our lineup is pretty sad without him in it.
  12. Here's hoping Ramirez woke up and felt better. I hope he's playing.
  13. Before the game there was a recording of some questioning of O'Neil, I think, and he said that Ramirez was day to day, and they'd see how he was when they went to Pittsburgh. So he's likely going to sit tomorrow? I'm less than impressed with his offseason conditioning program. That and Mark O'Neal and the rest of the staff that can't make sure their guys stretch properly. It's way too early to make any comments on his conditioning program. If he just misses one game with this, it's no big deal. If he misses two and then none the rest of the year, no big deal. Dusty said he thinks he should be able to go tomorrow, but they're not going to take much of a chance and it really just depends on how he feels tomorrow morning. Jon, I love Aramis, he's my favorite player. It's just that yesterday wasn't cold, and I don't see how you could pull something this early in the season in decent weather swinging a bat. I'm just irritated that either he's not in as good of shape as I hoped he'd be, or the training staff isn't stretching guys out like they need to be.

  15. Has there been any mention on the broadcast about the severity of Aramis' injury?
  16. Ugh. Here's hoping it's nothing. If it's something, I'm bitterly disappointed.
  17. Ramirez. Younger, prime ahead of him, etc.
  18. I think that's we overpaid in the sense that it's a risky deal given that Lee has had the one great season and a bunch of decent but not noteworthy seasons. I also think there's a distinction between overpaying Lee and overpaying the dreck that we usually spend millions on, because Lee will likely be good for this deal. Thus, it's not a big deal really that we went a little high in dollars and a little long in years. I am not complaining about the deal, but just pointing out a couple of possibilities in how this may affect Ramirez, which is the only way I'd be against this deal. I agree with Vance saying that this was what it was going to take to sign Lee, and since we're in our window, it's pretty tolerable. I'd just hate to see Ramirez opt out and we lose him because Hendry is reticent to give the years/money he gave to Lee to Ramirez. I'm glad Lee is signed, though. We just need to make sure the rest of the cornerstones are locked up.
  19. What Rocket said. There is a difference between managing some good games, and being a good manager. 5 games does not a season make.
  20. Baker has generally managed well thus far. We'll see if he rides certain relievers too hard, or keeps his lineups as sane as he has thus far. I think that, even if the Barrett move on Saturday doesn't work out, it's still pressing the right button, wheras if he had put, say, Pagan up there, or Hairston, it wouldn't have been.
  21. I'm confident he would have gotten more money and possibly even an extra year from the likes of the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and Orioles. Nevermind the Yankees and Red Sox who could easily get into a bidding war, if Ned Colletti gave 13 mil to Furcal, what makes you think he wouldn't give 15 or 16 to Lee? Despite those three options, he would have Baltimore as well, which has coveted him for years and has Angelos as their owner...not to mention a disgruntled Tejada. I put him in the same class as Pujols and he's making about the same amount of money as him. You could put him in that class, but you'd be dead wrong. He's nowhere near as good as Pujols, and not worth as much as he is in any reality. Well, even if you don't, he'd be in at least the same price range were he to test free agency. No he wouldn't. Not even close. Pujols would get close to Manny money in this past FA market. Maybe more. I'm not even kidding. Pujols is light years better than Lee in every facet of the game except defense, and his freakish hitting ability more than makes up for that. We overpaid for Lee. It's different (and better) than overpaying for fringe talent like Hendry tends to do, because at least Lee should be productive for most of his deal. As I said, the only downside of overpaying Lee is that it could hinder an effort to either prevent Aramis from opting out or prevent us from resigning him should he opt out. However, to say he's in Pujols' class and thus deserves this contract is just silly.

  23. I think this is too much for Lee. I'm glad he's locked up, but I think we've overpaid. Tree's prediction is probably dead on. Regarding Ramirez, I'm probably the biggest Aramis backer here, and I think that if he sees Lee getting this deal after just one, albeit sensational season, he's going to opt out because he could get far, FAR more than 2/22.5m on the open market. Do we have the budget to sign them both to these kinds of deals, PLUS locking up Pierre and Z? I'll say this-if paying Lee means we have a shot at losing Aramis, it's a terrible deal. I think Aramis has more value than Derrek does. If signing Lee means we just overpaid for Lee, then fine. We're in our contending window, so it's not such a big deal. I just don't want to see us losing a great, younger slugger because we overreached on Lee AND splurged on the Jones/Perez/Rusch contracts long term.
