  1. I would also argue that the Lee/Ramirez/Barrett/Walker/Zambrano core is a pretty good one that just needs to be surrounded with better talent and more depth. Murton and Cedeno should be retained, as should Dempster. Everyone else I would move if I felt I was getting a good value relative to the situation.
  2. It's hard to say since Venezuela isn't any good.
  3. You're being sarcastic, right?
  4. First of all, a total bush effort by Venezuela. I'm embarrased that we played them. No class shown whatsoever. Convey was really, really good, again. Of course, the class of opponent had something to do with this, but good things happen when you run at defenders with pace, and he did this. Solid job. He's going to really challenge Beasley, who did very little in his 30 or so minutes on the field. Dempsey was good, as usual. Not as eye opening as Convey, but solid. Scored his goal well, and I love the little moves he has. It's nice to have a US player show a creative spark. I want him starting. The ESPN Brian Ching Lovefest continued tonight. The way the announcers talked about his goal you'd think he did a double bike diving header into the upper 90. His goal wasn't that impressive, and considering he had about 8 other chances to score or send Johnson through and failed every time, I can't think of him as anything more than a backup. Johnson was relatively useless, again. He showed flashes, like on the assist to Dempsey, but he's not consistent at all. Wolff was his usual useless self. Heaven help us if Landon gets hurt. Donovan was ok. Generated the 2nd goal, but not really noteworthy. Howard was pretty good tonight, too, as was Gooch. Bocanegra's red card was a joke, and the defense was ok, but playing an offside trap can burn you against teams with better players. I'm still nervous about the defense. I'd give it a 6. For real this time. I look forward to seeing the actual starters against Latvia on Sunday.
  5. That's the kind of mess that gets teams in the US's position to run up the score on you.
  6. Convey and Dempsey are the only players that actually make runs at a defense. Convey is playing great this half. It's nice to know we have an option on that side should Beasley's poor form continue.
  7. So you want the OF to be even worse offensively? No i dont but Hunter will put up better numbers than Pierre would. HUnter is a guy who will sacrafice his body for the team something this cub team does not have. A real team player Awesome. Just what we need! More intangibles! Forget getting good baseball players who put up good numbers. We need more clutchiness, unselfishness (how can you be a selfish baseball player? It's a team game built around individual competitions.), and more guys "willing to give up their body for the team". I will now go barf, since this is likely what our braintrust thinks anyway.
  8. Thanks everyone. I finally figured it out.
  9. So you want the OF to be even worse offensively?
  10. Can you be more specific? When I sign in using my yahoo id, it tells me I need a team to sign up for the league.
  11. Why am I having trouble signing up?
  12. Why? One has to expect his end-year numbers will aggress to the career norm (or at least 2005 if not career norm). In order for that to happen, he should go on a several week tear at some point. Why not wait until closer to the deadline to see if he hits that hot streak, which increases his trade value? You're correct in that waiting should only increase his trade value, but the flip side is that I don't trust the organization to deal him if he shows any sort of hot streak. They'd be more likely to hold on to him, or god forbid extend him, especially if the hot streak inched the club closer to .500 or whatever.
  13. The sooner we trade off Pierre the better.
  14. Which means we will sign him. You know this.
  15. Of the 5 original alternate defensemen, we've tapped 3 of them now.
  16. So...Cory Gibbs is apparently off the US Roster, replaced by Gregg Berhalter, due to swelling in his knee. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=368977&cc=5901 This is stunning to say the least, and it means the only real centerback option next to Gooch in a 4 defenseman formation is Old Eddie Pope. I suppose it could be worse. I suppose they could have tabbed Zavagnin, but Berhalter sucks too. Do we have another central defender on the roster? EDIT: Our defensive roster consists of Gooch, Cherundolo (of the mental errors vs Germany and Morocco), Bocanegra, Berhalter, Conrad, and Eddie Lewis. Can Mastroeni step in and play a central defender's role? 'Cause I want no part of Conrad or Berhalter playing meaningful minutes against players like Luca Toni.
  17. Walker Neifi Hairston Womack We're halfway to our all 2B lineup.
  18. Your point is well taken. But, if given a 150m payroll, do you think these dimwits would spend it on quality players, or would they just give the crap players they currently have more money? I can see it now. Neifi (6m), Rusch (6m), Jacque (10m), Bynum (2m), etc... Ludicrous assumption? Maybe. But it's also ludicrous to give Neifi Perez 2.5m. The Yankees and their nearly 200m payroll doesn't pay Miguel Cairo 2.5m. Boston doesn't pay Cora 2.5m. Heck, Chone Figgins doesn't make 2.5m and he's actually GOOD! There is no reason to pay over market price for someone. If Dusty is such a great guy to play for, wouldn't Neifi have come back for say 1m? 850K? If not, nice knowin' ya Neifi. Why? Because Ryan Theriot is probably equal or better and only costs league minimum. If you pay more than market value for 1 player, a team can probably absorb it. Several players? It's going to make an impact on your overall production. Because instead of affording GOOD players, you have to settle for mediocre players. BBB, thank you for this post. It reaffirms my rantings and ravings from the winter before the 2005 season. If you overpay the crap, even if it's a million here, 2 million there, it will hamper your ability to get someone actually good.
  19. Guys, we're all going to be dead before our team wins a championship. That's depressing. When my daughter is born, I'm going to do everything I can to keep her from this misery.
  20. Inexcusable, unbelievable. Tell me Kaplan pointed out the OBP.
  21. as in no comment, or what?
  22. Replace week with month, and bad with pathetic, or humiliating, and that's a good start.
  23. This will be waste of time. Book it.
  24. Farnsworth for Novoa & Moore. Patterson for whoever we got. Nolasco, Pinto and Mitre for Pierre. Koronka for Freddie Bynum.

Not in the least. Skiles would kill him.
