There isn't a team in the league that wouldn't want him in their 9 man rotation. I'd be thrilled if he fell to us at 16
  2. I'm telling you guys, they'd jump at a deal like Prior/Moore/Jones for ARod.
  3. NY Yankees Starting OF= Terrence Long, Melke Cabrera and Bernie Williams. Surely the might listen to offers of Jones or Pierre.
  4. Hendry will be approaching Isaiah Thomas levels if he extends Baker.
  5. Also, if someone is going by the Island of Disappearing Athletes later, tap Aramis on the shoulder and tell him to find DaMarcus Beasley for me. Just been MIA the last half dozen matches I've seen him in. I haven't seen him be a threat since the Mexico game.
  6. Gibbs looked like a high school JV player that doesn't know how to use his off foot. At least he made that sliding clear on what would've surely been a 1 v 1 with Keller(or was that someone else?). I thought that was Gooch. Gibbs (who I've never really liked much) should be in a central role. I'd not mind if he replaced Pope in the middle, and Lewis played the left back spot. To me, that would be a better, if more inexperienced back line.
  7. Dempsey is nails. No reason Arena shouldn't be able to find a starting spot for him somewhere. What we've always lacked is a player who is willing to attack defenses. We have plenty of players who want to dance around and play through balls, but only Dempsey and Convey will run at a defender and force the issue. Ching is horrible. Out of position for every minute he was on the field tonight. God forbid McBride get hurt... Eddie Pope is going to be the 2006 version of Jeff Agoos. Mark my words, if we make it to the Round of 16, he'll be benched for it. Arena has a lot of work to do. I know our team doesn't get much playing time together, but they'd better gel fast, and Reyna better not be hurt. As much as I don't care for him, this team needs him on the field.
  8. Wolff should never start. Ever. He can't finish, can't really create, and the last big game he contributed to was in 2001. Cherundolo's decision is just one of many backline issues we've had since the Azteca last year. Our defense needs to tighten up, and they had better do it fast, or else our distraction from baseball will last 3 games.
  9. I'd give em a 6. JP, is that you? Are you serious? I'd rank that a 3, and only because O'Brien looked good. No one else deserves higher than that. BTW, John Harkes really upset you tonight, huh?
  10. But that's the story of U.S. soccer - keep playing balls in the air into the middle when you're clearly outclassed. It's as frustrating as watching the Cubs not take walks. Here's the thing: it's a decent gameplan for us. McBride is excellent in the air, and can put balls over the top down onto the feet of the support. Unfortunately for the US, the support (Donovan, Wolff, especially) can't finish. When a team packs 8 back in defense, you can't play chip and run.
  11. First things first, the field was crap. It looked like they were playing indoor out there. Secondly, O'Brien looked real good. That's about it as far as the positives go. Hopefully this will wake them up, because that was pathetic all around. You don't give up game winners in the 90th minute, ever. There was no reason to have 9 of your 10 position players get caught waaaay upfield when you know Morocco is going to counter. That was tactically stupid. You can't have mental breakdowns like that at a World Cup. The lineup Arena used was bizarre. I'll be interested to see the 11 he thorws out vs Venezuela, because tonights was a hodgepodged mess. Reyna is soft. Donovan is really overrated. So is Eddie Johnson. You have to bury headers like he had. We have no one who can finish with any consistency. Convey looked ok. That's all I have. I was really bitter during this one, for some reason. Just very dissapointing to not beat a team like that. I know Morocco is decent, but if you want to be a top class team, you win that game.
  12. The Rangers picked up ~$50 million, depending on what part of his salary that applied to, and how much the Yanks would be willing to pick up of the remainder, it should be discussed. Although I'd remain on the sideline if it's the full contract (throw Pierre, Jones, Neifi, Rusch, Hendry and Baker together and I might talk). I wouldn't care if it was the full contract. He's the 2nd best offensive player in baseball.
  13. Prior, Moore and Murton gets it done, I'd bet.

I don't think he's a guy who will ever be the best player on a good team. I don't like spending a top 3 pick on someone like that. Aldridge could be, as could Morrison. Of the top 5 guys in the draft, Thomas is the one I'd like the least. He's not going to contribute to the team next year, he's really young and raw, and isn't as offensively skilled as the other options. Well, none of us can be certain what Bargnani will do. And Thomas has a great mid-range jumper that should allow him to contribute next season. How will he be able to create said shot?

In that case I hope with all of my might that someone gets ahead of him and takes him. I have no desire to watch another Tyson Chandler. What of Tyrus Thomas reminds you of Chandler? His total lack of an offensive game outside of jumping and dunking for starters. He's got tons of athletic ability. Tools, if you will. What he doesn't have is the ability to help this team offensively in the front court. I'd much prefer a draft of Aldridge and a Redick or something like that, and then go and sign Al Harrington, than draft a guy like Thomas who isn't ready for the NBA both mentally and physically, not to mention skill-wise.

  18. Why is Cano worth trading for? Or Trot Nixon? Nixon I could see if we had a RH platoon parter, since he's pretty much like Jones is in regards to LHP, but I can't see dealing for him when our manager thinks a platoon is that neato movie with the Two and a Half Men guy

I'd take Aldridge with the 1st pick and Redick with the 2nd pick.
  20. Bump for the 1st of 3 warmup games in the next week or so for the US. USA vs Morocco, 6pm CDT, ESPN2. For those of you who don't wish to watch the train wreck that is the Cubs, this should be a really good game. Morocco is a pretty good squad, and will be by far the toughest team the US will play in their 3 remaining warmups before opening the WC against the Czechs in June. Look for Brian Ching and Eddie Johnson to see lots of time up front, and look for the formation Arena uses. There's speculation he may use a 3-5-2 lineup. Clint Dempsey looks to be the front runner for the right mid spot, but John O'Brien will see much time tonight. I'll call a 2-1 win for the US.
  21. Why would Yost ever leave Milwaukee for here?
  22. Well, Giles was a FA. Preston Wilson and Juan Encarnacion were out there. I'm not sure if either are better than Jones, but I'd probably rather have Wilson for 1 yr than Jones for 3. Furcal, obviously was there. Lofton was a FA. Jason Michaels and Coco Crisp were traded. 2004/5 was the offseason to spend money, though.
  23. i think ramirez actually asked dusty to lower him in the lineup, and if he's more comfortable there(and hits another 2 hr's in one game) then i'm okay with it. Suuuure he asked to be moved down. Where have I heard that before? Seriously, though, Mizzou is right. He's our best hitter, even if he's struggled up to this point. He needs to bat as often as possible.
