  1. Koyie Hill was a highly pimped C prospect a few years back...
  2. It's been nice to have actual moves to talk about nearly every day the last week. :D
  3. iirc, cotts started the 2004 futures game. IIRC, he also made his first career start at Yankee Stadium and got hammered. It was a pretty questionable decision. RSF, do you know if he has options left?
  4. I'd be suprised. He's been around for a few years despite his age, I think.
  5. Well, a mediocre loogy shouldn't impact much, but if he's routinely brought in during the 6th/7th to face a tough lefty with men on in a close game, it can turn ugly. If the follow-up means a much improved starting pitcher, I'm all for it. What if Cotts is the starting pitching upgrade?
  6. Well yes, he and Lou could put on quite a show. :D Imagine what the Hustle Police would do with Manny jogging every ground ball and pop fly out?
  7. I'm definitely looking for a follow-up, and I hope it involves moving Eyre. I just don't want this to thrust Cotts into a primary Loogy role, not if he's really a changeup pitcher. But even if it does, it's not that big of a deal depending on what the follow up is. A mediocre to bad LOOGY isn't going to impact much. Piniella hopefully knows how to read a stat sheet, so maybe our pen won't be put in lousy positions like it had been the past 4 years.
  8. Or you just miss the obvious potential Eyre deal. I don't think Hendry would add a third LH arm for no reason. It doesn't make sense to me to trade for Cotts to be your LH set-up man. That's what I'm saying. If another team has a woody for Cotts, then it makes sense to trade 2 pitchers for him. I just don't see the point in acquiring Cotts as the guy you will fall back on once dealing Eyre (which I'm in favor of). What if Ohman becomes the LH set up man and Cotts is the LOOGY? Cotts couldn't loogy in 2004 or 2006. I'd rather a loogy be a LH who actually gets out lefties routinely. I'll assume that this move is just a setup move for a different trade. If Hendry deals Eyre for Westbrook, I won't care if Cotts can't get me out, since it improves the rotation. If Cotts is the one who moves along with, say Jones or Izturis, I'll dance a jig on my desk. If we keep all 3 or trade Ohman for Cliff Lee, I'll be unhappy.

  10. Dont forget Glendon! I'm assuming he retires.
  11. Cotts was great in 2005, but Aardsma never was. It's a interesting trade to say the least. I think something else is brewing here... This is almost certainly a precursor to a deal. 3 LHP in a pen is a bit much.
  12. Huh. Are Ohman or Eyre going somewhere?
  13. If we ended up with one of them I'll be pretty happy.
  14. If true, my guess is Murton's traded for pitching or becomes a 4th OF. Barf. Pass. Murton in 3 years is going to be better than Sori or Lugo in 3.
  15. So what happens to our league minimum, solid LF in that scenario?
  16. On the 40-man roster, not the 25-man. The third catcher would be in Iowa. Unless the CBA changed the rule on drafted Rule 5 players, the team that drafted him would have to keep Fox on their 25 man roster all year in order to retain him. How many teams can afford to carry a rookie catcher on their roster all season. How many can afford to carry a 3rd catcher? That's what I was getting at. It doesn't seem all that risky to me that they expose Fox to Rule V. If a team drafts him, work out a trade and call it good. Looking back, it would have been nice to work out a trade for Sisco, Dubois and ole what's his name...... The guy drafted by Florida who has spent a better part of his Cub career injured. Luke Hagarty?
  17. #1-Leadoff is not a position. Pierre is a bad baseball player with one skill that's pretty much useless without the ability to get on base. Just because other teams are similarly deluded about "leadoff" being a position on a team and are willing to throw silly money at Pierre doesn't validate a bad trade that wasted precious, tradeable assets. #2-Cesar Izturis is not only not a top 5 SS, he's not a .300 hitter.
  18. As far as Boston dealing pitching...Lester has lymphoma and Clement had surgery recently, didn't he? I don't think they'll be dealing off pitching.
  19. In what universe is Henry Blanco worth that kind of contract. Those escalators better have the letters M, V and P in them somewhere as to insure they never are reached.
  20. Why didn't we inform Greg Maddux? Because it's in everyone's best interest that he forget the address to Wrigley Field.
  21. I guess, but I think that DeRosa is the kind of player you wait on, not rush out and sign right away on the 3rd day of FA. If moves like this are the rule for this offseason, then this is typical stupidity. If we improve and DeRosa is simply just garnish to the side dish of improvement, I won't care nearly as much.
  22. And there's your 4 team trade: Howry to Phillies Rowand to White Sox Garcia to Team X Player X to Cubs I had posted my idea for this yesterday :D
