  1. 8:45 est on goltv. Boo to Univision and Telemundo not picking this game up in my area.
  2. We have an opening at the PF position as far as starting lineup goes. Tyrus may or may not be ready to start next season. Noah could immediately start in that spot in November if drafted. In the NBA, high ceilings also come with high bust potential. Wright smacks of Rudy Gay.
  3. Sacrificing offense for defense has been one thing that Piniella has been (rightly) willing to do for the most part. I don't think the difference between Burrell and your average RF defender is much.
  4. Also keep in mind that with Tyrus and Thabo, we have 2 projects already. Given the cap situation with the core 3 players, and the window we have in the East, do we want to spend 3 years to see if Brandan Wright or Spencer Hawes don't suck?
  5. I think he can score better than he did at UF. Maybe not initially, but he's a guy that can get 10ppg based on his offensive rebounding ability, his ability to finish, his ability to run the floor on the break better than most big man in the NBA (whereas in college he faced guys just as athletic and young), and simply by playing in a NBA style offense, where spacing tends to be better. I'm betting he can hit an elbow/baseline jumper as well as PJ Brown does now. Couple that with his motor, ability to rebound and run the floor, and pass, and his size, and I don't see how he can't help this team down low. So basically, it would be fine to take him, but we still need a big man down low? I think you could throw the ball to him on the block, and it wouldn't be a wasted pass. He's a good passer. I'm sure he has a jump hook in him somewhere. He's 7 ft tall. At worst, even if he has no offensive game (which I doubt) you get a cheaper Tyson Chandler who can actually pass and handle the ball. I'm not sure how that's a waste at #9, given who's likely available.
  6. Like I said, everyone in Philly hates him, and he probably hates everyone in Philly.

  8. We would have to kick more garbage in PHL's direction (Eyre). Burrell is owed $14MM next season. I believe Jones gets $5MM next year. Besides, I'm not sure where you play Burrell since we already have a LF. Burrell could play RF, I'd bet. Everyone in Philly hates him. He probably hates playing in Philly. Too bad it would never happen, but if something like Jones/Eyre for Burrell were on the table I'd do it.
  9. Marc Gasol in the 2nd round, plz.
  10. If you need motivation to have a shot at guaranteeing yourself millions of dollars as an NBA lottery pick, you probably aren't going to be successful.
  11. Why do you think Corey Brewer will be a bust? Aside from being athletic, does he strike you as being a great offensive player? He's not a great shooter, he's not a great defender. Brewer has lockdown-defender potential. He's certainly known for his defense. I like Brewer but I think Thabo will fulfill that role for the Bulls. Yeah, I cut short my post. I meant to say that Thabo can probably defend as well as Brewer in the long term, and I'm not sold on his offense. I think he's going to underwhelm. Do you think Marc Gasol will be there for us in the 2nd round? I'd certainly rather take him than JamesOn Curry.

  13. Ford's most recent mock: Oden Durant Horford Conley Yi Green Brewer Wright Noah Thorton I'm also a Noah fan at 9. I don't want him over Wright. I do prefer him over Hawes and Yi. Barring unexpected trades, we probably get whichever guy Boston doesn't take (Yi or Noah).
  14. For shame. I think the guy I'd most like would be Brendan Wright or Corey Brewer. Wright strikes me as lazy and Brewer strikes me as a bust. Noah would be an upgrade over PJ Brown, and even if he never develops much offensively can step in and replace Ben Wallace as a low post defender/rebounder.. Admittedly, it's a "safe" pick. But to me, Noah probably fills a need better than anyone else likely to be available would.
  15. I've talked myself into Noah over the past couple days.
  16. Brazil looked bad, slow and disinterested. Tonight's game is going to end up looking like the friendly we played last spring against Germany. Similarly bad lineup against a world power's A team.
  17. That's essentially how I feel, and kudos for Hendry for not compounding the error of signing Jones by making a poor deal. No way Hendry nixed this deal. Piniella wanted Barrett gone, Hendry traded him. Piniella wants Jones gone, Hendry tried but no doubt someone stepped in. I heard Dave Van Dyck say that he thinks the Commissioner's Office played a part. Anything over 1 mil has to be approved by them. He also mentioned they haven't been happy with the Cubs since their offseason spending spree. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but there is no way Hendry pulled out of this deal. Also interesting that both Hendry and McDounough have said they will have no salary constraints trying to make this club better. So if Selig's boys didn't get involved, they've got some explaining to do, because this was reported as a done deal by none other than the flagship. Yeah, but do you buy the Zell stuff?

  19. And his questionable work ethic?
  20. So the Cubs have a hard cap as far as budget space to add or subract salary for 2007? No, that's not what I said. It's more of value for the cost. Yeah, I know. I was fishing for different info :D

  22. He won't be there in the 2nd round, but I'd like to see Jared Dudley as a Bull.
  23. Unfortunately, Jones is probably completely worthless.
  24. I'm assuming you're either kidding, or your name is Joe Morgan.
  25. The Cubs have been adamentally opposed to paying guys to play elsewhere for a while. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that somebody nixed the idea. Yeah, but to think that it was Zell and not McDonough or Hendry doing the nixing is stupid. I can buy Hendry realizing that it was stupid to pay nearly his entire salary and still get nothing back. I can buy McD stepping in and pointing out that it was stupid. And they'd both be right. As much as I want Jones gone, that deal seemed stupid. However, to try and whip up some sort of thing where Zell stepped in over what amounts to nothing in the overall transaction he's involved in is just stupid.
