  2. If you watched the Canada/US game, you'd have seen multiple bad calls going in favor of Canada as well. Iain Hume should have been red carded before he had scored for 2 reckless plays on restarts. So no, no it shouldn't have been.
  3. I got a beer shower from afar. my buddy Yoaav got a direct beer shower. i didn't even bust out the "Puto marquez" chant. For the most part the Mexican fans were really friendly. I had a few try and start something with me a few times, especially leaving the field. One guy cried when Benny's shot went in. That was a sodding rip. I still can't believe how perfect of a volley that was.
  4. Bornstein and Spector got caught upfield way too often today. As much as I loathe him, Oswaldo Sanchez was very good in goal. He had 2 saves on Dempsey that were very, very good.
  5. Good god what a great game. I even had things thrown at me.
  6. Pretty soon I'll be off to the game. Suckers. I can't wait to yell obscenities at Oswaldo Sanchez.
  7. True, but do they have a first class striker ready to replace him? Is Theo Walcott the answer there? $16m is nice to have, but they need to make sure they have an offense or it's back to old-school, Lucky/Boring Arsenal. Anything that makes it more likely Arsene Wenger will cry every week makes me a happy man. Being in the same room with Wenger and Mourinho would be terrible. Why are there so many unlikeable coaches in the EPL.

  9. Why no Tim Howard? My best guess as to why Bocanegra, Dempsey and Howard aren't going is that Bradley and USSF wanted to let them go back to Fulham and Everton for preseason training. They're probably thinking it's better to build a good relationship with their clubs so that when we need them for a qualifier, we can get them released.
  10. The biggest winners in the Henry to Barca move were Spurs and Reading. Either now has an excelent chance of finishing 4th and getting a crack at the Champions League. RE: the Copa roster, I know the U-20 World Cup is forthcoming, but I would have liked to seen Adu, Altidore and Ferrari on the CA roster. Those 3 are the future, and will likely contribute in 2010. Adu, in particular, should have been selected simply because I'd like to get him capped for the senior team ASAP. I'm also suprised that Beasley and Oneywu aren't going, since they still don't have a club for next season, unless OSV ad Standard Leige want them back. There are guys going to CA who don't really deserve a callup. Gaven doesn't even start for Columbus, yet he's going to CA? Herculez Gomez is never going to be an option up front. Marvelle Wynne? Really? That said, it's going to be fun watching Feilhaber, Nguyen and Davies play in a pressure situation. It's just too bad that the players around them (especially the back line) are going to be poor.
  11. Maybe he asked for some time off. It's neither Clint nor Landon. I get why neither are playing. Dempsey is getting married in July, and LA didn't want to release Landon with Beckham on his way. There are actually 4 players I'm pissed about, now that I have time to look at it.
  12. So the Copa America rosters came out today. Argentina is sending Messi, Mascherano, Tevez, Riquelme, and pretty much every other good player they have. The US is sending a C team. We play Argentina in the 1st match. That game is going to be a beating of ridiculous proportions. I wouldn't be shocked if it was 7-0. Here's the roster: 13 Bornstein, Jonathan D 5'9" 145 11/07/84 7/1 Los Alamitos, Calif. Chivas USA (MLS) 4 Boswell, Bobby D 6'2" 185 03/15/83 2/0 Tampa, Fl. D.C. 13. The only possible rationale was that Howard was on a yellow and Bradley didn't want to chance him missing the final.
  14. The US got very, very lucky. Canada were the better team. A very lucky Hejduk shot and a great pass from Dempsey to spring DMB were both against the run of play. Donovan's whiff on an empty net was inexcusable. Worse than Dempsey's screwing around in the 18 against Panama. Totally ridiculous. Bradley's red card was stupid, since Mastro was right there to close DeGuzman down. And Canada were onside. That game should have gone to extra time. Big ups to Hejduk, Dempsey and Bradley. Hejduk played his butt off; probably the best game I've seen him play. Dempsey showed his quality again, springing DMB and he should have scored on the corner late, were it not for a lucky goalline clearance. Bradley's workrate was awesome, but again, stupid decision to take DeGuzman down. LD, Boca, Keller and EJ deserve kicks to the groin. EJ was invisible after the first 20 minutes, and doesn't understand the concept of offside. Boca is a calamity. He's a backup left back, not a starting center back. Gooch and Parkhurst, please. Donovan was "Active", but to whiff in the 6 with a wide open goal is just insane. Keller looked old, bad and tired. I cannot wait for Sunday. I'll be there, with my #8 Dempsey shirt, yelling a lot.
  15. Lose your voice!
  16. I can't compete with this. You can if you give him Kent Mercker.
  17. Powerthirst is AWESOME. Rawberry is my favorite.
  18. I'll be watching this matchup with great interest.
  19. I woulnd't be all that hesitant to deal pitching to Cincy. Not sure who I'd give up. Maybe..Gallagher and EPatt?
  20. Yes. I hope Hendry doesn't demand too much for Jacques. At this point, even though I think he will turn it around somewhat, I doubt he will come close to last season's production, or his career numbers. He needs to stop taking up playing time, and since Lou is too hard headed to bench him, he needs to go. Given what we have received in the last ten or so trades, I would not worry about that too much. I alos believe that Lou would bench him if he weren't being told by Hendry, "Showcase him so we can trade him." Of course, letting him play exposes him as well. It was mentioned earlier, but bears repeating: Jacque's swing and approach suck. His hips are way out in front and he tries to pull everything. He rolled over on at least two sliders that I saw last night. Had he gone with the picth they would have been easy doubles down the left field line; both were up in the zone. He tries to swing like Griffey, so the solution is obvious: trade his arse and go and get the genuine article. Of note: I heard on ESPN 1000 this morning that Griffey has agreed to be traded to the Cubs specifically. Can anyone confirm? Griffey? Really? What's it going to cost? I'm guessing it's going to be too much.
  21. Their GM must be absolutely stupid to want Jones.
  22. The USSF actually did something right for a change: I don't have a link, but the US is now scheduled to play Mexico- in Mexico City, at the Azteca, on September 9th 2007. I love it. Our players need to play friendlies in hostile Central American enviroments. Between Copa America, Catalonia, Switzerland, Sweden and this date (and 9/12 is also a FIFA international date), all of the players that we need to qualify for 2010 get a dry run in the most hostile, difficult enviorments possible. This will be an invaluable experience, even if we lose, because we'll be back there in 12 or so months when we get to the Hex (final stage of CONCACAF qualifying) and Bradley and the young Nats will know what to expect. And imagine if we beat them there.
  23. The only argument I can see for this is money. If the ownership issue has frozen the budget at its current value (more or less), then freeing up Barret's money might be one of the only ways to add salary in a trade for an upgrade. There was no money freed up by getting rod of Barret. The Cubs paid for most of his remaining salary. It sounds like they saved about $800,000. Probably around $650k net if we're paying Bowen's salary.
  24. I don't see how any deal for a good hitting SS or RF is going to hinge ona trade for a backup catcher and a low A ball prospect. We traded offense for defense. We now have 3 black holes in the lineup. C, SS and RF. We can't afford to leave those spots as is. If we do, then this trade was stupid because we could have simply held onto Barrett as his offensive numbers were likely to improve and we could have let him walk this winter if Lou didn't like him. I'm overall pretty meh on the trade, but I expect needs to be addressed at some point.
