  1. Twellman can do a lot of things in MLS that he can't for the national team. Like be useful. Or score. It takes real talent to do it against real talent.
  2. Holy freakin crap that was a great strike. Wow. I'm just...wow. I am struggling to think of any other current 'nat who could do that properly without shanking it. I've seen Jozy do it in the game against the Galaxy last year. Freddy could, but not as powerfully and I'm not sure he could put himself in that position. While admittedly I wasn't thinking of Jozy or Freddy, the only "current" or former player I can think of who I would have had confidence in their ability not to spike themselves or shank it would have been Clint Mathis. I think Freddy would not have had the strength to be in that position. Jozy, no doubt, could. I've seen Dempsey miss those badly, and you rarely see Donovan inside the penalty spot anymore. Mathis was such a talented player. It's too bad his attitude and his knee let him down.

  4. also, white http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/06_01/submarine080607_468x392.jpg
  5. Fulham is done. 2-0 to Newcastle today. Their coach is flipping stupid to start Davies over Dempsey.
  6. "Hit hard" "Mediocre effort" "luckless" Ringing endorsements if I've ever heard them. Full steam ahead, never mind the icebergs! This is one of the dumbest things I've read on here in a long time, which is actually somewhat impressive.
  7. Portugal? Why there? (wikipedia wouldn't tell me) For a player of Adu's age and skillset, the Portuguese league is a good place for him to get his feet wet in Europe. Unfortunately, he's on a team with a national hero on it who won't retire.
  8. It was perfectly clear to me and many others here. Can't help it if you weren't paying attention like the rest of us. [-X [-X I simply want the Cubs to win the division, the league and the World Series this year, that's all. To put any hope on having Wood as the closer, given his history of DL stints and who knows how many games he wasn't or won't be available, is bad decision making. Again, he has ZERO saves in his career. YA I KNO RITE? # of Career Saves for Mel Rojas:126 # of Career Saves for Kerry Wood:0 CASE CLOSED LOLZ
  9. I'm going to send Rui Costa a letter and ask him to retire so that Freddy can start at Benfica and get his development on. The best part about this tournament has been watching him. He's simply been on a completely different level than his opposition.
  10. Klinsmann would be the USMNT coach today, were it not for one thing he demanded: compelte control over the youth sides and player development. He wanted a situation similar to the setup he had in Germany with Juergen Low and the German youth teams. That setup is pretty much the reason that a mediocre German side made it to extra time in the WC semis (along with being the host nation). USSF wouldn't give it to him. I don't necessarily disagree with that decision-Klinsi probably isn't the most experienced coach around, and giving him that much of a free hand would have been risky for any Federation to do. On the other hand, that isn't why USSF refused. USSF refused because they have a lot of "their" people in those development positions. People who had worked in ODP and development for years People who would have been replaced quickly because they are incompetent at their jobs. Gulati didn't want to see his peeps booted, and balked at the demand.
  11. Apparently Feilhaber walked into the camp like he was the s/God's gift to soccer and for whatever reason got into some fisticuffs with Adu. If this is true, peace out Benny. More rumors coming out is that the team feels over-trained and over-coached by Nowak. The players aren't psyched about Pete? I'm shocked. I heard about the Benny/Freddy thing. If that's true it makes Nowak's decision much more understandable. However, overtrained and overcoached? By an arrogant former international who had a reputation for being a difficult tool? Noooooooo Waaaaaay. Good, the USSF is so flipping dumb for putting that guy in charge of a youth side with some real talent.
  12. I'd venture to guess that most White Sox fans think Crede is better when he's healthy. I'd venture that those people are all idiots. Crede has no business being compared to Ramirez, ever. What's even funnier is that Crede gets props for GRIT, but Ramirez plays hurt most of every season and gets ragged on for being soft. If only he could grow a mullet...
  13. It would be a nightmare if they hired some solid, foreign manager. Please keep hiring your unqualified, former heroes, Mexico. Jorge Campos or Luis Hernandez, please.
  14. I honestly hope they keep Sanchez rather than hire someone competent. They have too much talent to keep playing to their opponent's level.
  15. Roma wasted some chances after the 2nd goal was scored. AC have to be concerned about Kaka, though. He seems a wee bit fragile.
  16. Derby either asked the USSF to release Feilhaber, or Nowak did the most idiotic thing a coach can do at that level, and based his roster on camp form rather than overall ability. Dax McCarty sucks. Like, he's the Taylor Twellman of center mids. Nowak comes off as a complete prick, so thats possible. He is someone that I would not want coaching youth too. I don't mean to beat this dead horse, but Nowak was likely a factor in Klinsmann not becoming the USMNT coach. He saw our youth system for what it is-badly flawed and somewhat broken, and wanted control over the pipeline, similar to what he had with Germany. USSF wouldn't give it to him. The way the USSF id's and advances players from ODP through the youth levels is horrible. Too much emphasis on "practice" form and not enough focus on creativity or ability. The fact that a player like Dempsey, who has flair, made it through our system, is amazing. Nowak is probably the worst person to have in charge of a youth side. It would be like putting Dusty Baker in charge of the D'Rays minor league system. Way too much emphasis on the wrong things, and a horrid temper to boot. I can't believe Roma drew Man U again.

  18. Yes in the Champions League which takes place every year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Champions_League This pretty much explains the CL if you're curious. http://www.sportsargumentwiki.com/index.php?title=UEFA_Champions_League
  19. FAIL
  20. Cuba is horrible. If the U23's had any sense of organization they would have stomped them. It's as if they saw how horrible they were, and tossed all sense of tactical awareness out the window. The 4-5-1 didn't help, either, as Jozy got knocked around and really played poorly overall. Freddy had a great game, and that was about it. He missed a hat trick by a combined 10 inches. This is a very, very dissapointing result.
  21. I know it was touched on a little, but the decision to carry Dax McCarthy over Benny Feilhaber is a bloody awful one. Unless Derby told USSF that Benny was going to see some serious time over the next couple weeks, there's no excuse for him not to be on that roster. His form probably sucks because Derby hasn't played him in 12423534253 months. The other decision that was stupid as far as Olympic qualifying was leaving Arturo Alvarez off in favor of flippin' Eddie Gaven (who on his best day is a really poor man's Bobby Convey), and having Chad Barrett on the roster at all. I also find it curious that the USSF would put a guy like Noawk, who hated Adu, in charge of the U23's where they knew he'd be responsible for a portion of his development. If Freddy ends up on the wing instead of the center of the pitch I'm going to plotz.
  22. Gerrard will already miss the 1st leg of the QF. He was booked in the 47th minute.
  23. I only saw highlights of the first half, but they sure had some great chances early. Highlights don't tell the whole story. Arsenal were awful in the 2nd half and lucky to earn a point. If Wigan had more than one good player on the wing they might have scored.
  24. Indeed. I find it ironic that Joe Cole was the only Blue to give a crap yesterday.
  25. Good god that's frightening.
