  1. No GOL TV, eh? It was an ok game. Subotic did a good job shutting down Klose until the 86th when he put two in before the end. Landon came on in the 70th for Toni and much like last game, put himself in good positions but never got a chance to do anything. Almost assisted on the go ahead goal but Altintop somehow put it into the 30th row despite being 10 feet out from goal. Landon is being put in a really good position by Klinsi. Final 30 minute or so sub, his pace against tired defenders with quality around him. Time Warner doesn't get GOL TV as far as I know, unless you pay like $200 for their max package. No Setanta either. So it's FSC, which means on a bad day I get to watch like Lecce v. Lazio or West Brom v Sunderland. The lower end of the EPL is MLS-esqe at times.
  2. Huh? Fukudome is the starting center fielder against RHP, meaning he'll be starting the majority of the games. If you put Fukudome in for bradley when he is out, who starts CF against RHP? Gathright? It's the same thing.... a big downgrade. Milton Bradley is a switch hitter. He's not going to be platooned. Come on.
  3. Hudson can't play right field when Bradley is hurt Really I don't see the point of signing Hudson and losing a first round pick. Is he really better than Fontenot? That's what Miles is for. Not ideal but we improve defensively at 2B and still have someone who can backup LF and RF. Also, Fukudome is an option to backup RF. The Cubs will likely blow their first round pick anyways. I'm talking about somebody who can oplay right field and actually hit. Miles is garbage and a significant downgrade from DeRosa. Plus he's only played one game in RF in his entire major league career....and only 5 in LF. So we'd had awful offense and awful defense. Really, I think this is a false report. I see no reason to sign Hudson. I don't see him as an upgrade to Fontenot and it's not worth giving up a first round pick so he can play againt lefties over Miles. Did you ignore the part where Fukudome is the backup RF?
  4. Hudson can't play right field when Bradley is hurt Really I don't see the point of signing Hudson and losing a first round pick. Is he really better than Fontenot? I think he probably is better than Fontenot over the course of a whole season. Also, as UM mentioned, Fukudome is the likely option to play RF in the event of an injury to Bradley.
  5. I'd be in support of this move only because it slots all the other MIF's down one level in terms of playing time. Which makes Miles the 24th guy instead of the primary backup IF. Cabrera or Hudson would accomplish this. I could see Hendry having more interest in Hudson only because of the perceived versatility and speed. Short of Peavy there isn't a real impact move left that we can realistically expect, so this is probably one of the better ways to improve us.
  6. The Washington Post (Goff) is reporting the roster for Wednesday. Torres, Beasley and Jozy in. Adu out. Not sure how I feel about that. He needs to get the heck out of Monaco. And I really wish FSC covered the Bundesliga rather than Serie A. I'd love to watch the Bayern game.
  7. The more I think about the game on Wednesday the more I think that SGE is going to be the first Mexican coach to figure out that allowing us to dictate possession and forcing us to break down a clogged final third is a better strategy against us than what Mexican teams have been doing for 8 years. I mean, SGE is no idiot. I don't think he's great, he has flaws as a coach and I wouldn't really want him to be our coach, but we're not that hard to prep for. He's had time to watch tape and prepare for us. He only lost 5 competitive games as England manager. If they do that, it will be a very, very interesting match. Can we break down a defense with our attacking 6? Without Adu? With Torres? Can Sacha K. pass the ball properly against a good side?
  8. Orlando Cabrera would be nice. We would have an actual SS. It would create some bench depth and insurance at 2B.
  9. 90 minutes of us watching our right back make threatening runs only to shank the crosses.
  10. We have better options than Beasley at left mid. There, I said it.
  11. Where? LP Field That's actually kind of cool. I'd expect some good support there -EDIT: Ives seems to think Soldier Field is going to get the June 6th qualifier against Honduras. ME LIKEY
  12. Where?
  13. -Arshavin to Arsenal is done. Villa will still beat them out for 4th, and I'll be happy to see it happen.
  14. Mainz.
  15. I can't imagine we couldn't have packaged any one of our minor league pitchers along with Cedeno and achieved the same result. The move doesn't make sense.
  16. Aside from Torres's first goal, both teams were pretty poor. I watched the whole game and can't remember a single decent chance by Chelsea. Lampard did get harshly sent off in the 60th minute but he wasn't doing much before that anyway. Scolari doesn't seem to handle the big games too well. I just saw the highlights of this one. That was the crappiest red cards ever considering some of the other tackles in that game. How Botswinga didn't get sent out for the play on Benayoun in the corner is beyond me.
  17. That move was a long time coming. Keane never looked right there.
  18. Part of that is the fact that Portsmouth suck, but yeah, Hogs let him pinch in and create and he played really well. It's nice that we have 2 of our best players in form and playing at a high level right now.
  19. MLS pulls this crap with all of their players. They pulled it with Mathis back in the day and it wrecked him. They pulled it with EJ back when EJ still had a shot to develop and Benfica wanted him. They pulled it with Clint and Clint said FU and said he'd leave anyway. I understand wanting to maximize an asset but Celtic's asking price was fair.
  20. I think its funny that that's all he really needs to do. Sepp is all about the dolla billz.
  21. Does England have enough FIFA-rated stadia right now that have a decent capacity? You can't have more than one site/city, I think, so they can use The Emirates, Old Trafford (the only 5 star rated site), Villa Park, Wembley (for the final) and then where else? The stadia there aren't that big, really. I'd guess we'd have 2018. The US could host a World Cup, right now, using stadia completely different from the ones used in 1994. Our facilities would mean a giant payday for FIFA. St. James's. Liverpool would have a new stadium by then. Plus they might be able to use the stadium in Cardiff. Maybe they'd do a Britain bid and include Parkhead or Ibrox. Gah, can't believe I forgot about Liverpool or St James'. I would think if Cardiff were used, Ibrox would be as well. I guess that's enough. Although it would be amusing to see England passed over again and hear their gutter press howl about it.

  23. That was unexpected.
  24. The flip side is that Celtic are guaranteed CL action every year. Not so much with Schalke. Although I would agree on the quality of the SPL. Its not that much different than MLS outside the Old Firm.
  25. I want to go, but I just can't figure out a way to make it work logistically. I'm holding out hope for a Hex game in Toyota Park. I'm doubting it will happen. I'm holding out hope that we don't have the Labor Day weekend hex game in Salt lake City. If it's anywhere else where my buddies and I can show up and drink and have a good time for a weekend, we're probably going. Especially if we can clinch qualification. I didn't even consider possible Labor Day sites...hmmm. I wish the USSF would get on with announcing all the sites already, you know...so fans can plan to attend. Wouldn't want any sort of home support, would we?
