  1. Many people don't consider 'just making the playoffs a success' like you do. They did win the WS and that's still something we can't say. The failure of Hendry still hangs over this club and will until we dump Soriano, etc... I'm no fan of Kenny but he's managed on a smaller budget and is apparently a better judge of value than Hendry ever was. I've bolded the incorrect parts of this, just to save time. And again, Hendry-built Cubs teams made the playoffs 3 times. In that same timeframe, the White Sox have made the playoffs twice. They're basically the same GM.
  2. I hate Williams and Reinsdorf, but I've got to admit somehow Williams gets things done. Don't forget that "horrible system" has produced a bunch of players on the ML roster as well as the trade bait necessary to get the veterans to make a run for the playoffs. Their success rate for getting into the playoffs is worse than Hendry's, and thanks to his reckless trading of assets for declining veterans in quixotic pushes for the postseason, their system sucks.
  3. Ugh. Hire some competent marketing people, MLS
  4. It's nice to know we have keepers in the pipeline even more athletic than Howard.
  5. Great goal from one of their actual players. Very clever strike.
  6. Johnson's done a good job of shaking off the nightmare of Olympic qualifying, for sure. SJ can get away with a lot due to the fact their field is the smallest in the league; their roster is built for physical play + incompetent MLS officiating. MLS refs are rivaled only by some NBA crews and Angel Hernandez in awfulness.
  7. Sadly, I think old me might be an upgrade over what's there currently. New me could at least do a passable Blanco imitation, where I just sort of hover in the final third and only run when necessary. It's a shame. There's just no coherent direction; the academy is subpar considering the resources in our area, the front office is rudderless and tone deaf, and the team just smacks of meh. The best teams in this league have an identity, for better or worse. The Fire are just sort of there. And if you want people to drag themselves down Harlem Ave to see the team, you need to provide more than meh.
  8. Aaaaaannnd some scrub named Bernardez elbows Brek Shea in the spine deliberately on a corner. I don't really have an MLS rooting interest, but I have nothing but disgust for this SJ team. You were not kidding. I count 3 hard and late takedowns in the first 6 minutes of this SJ/Chicago match. What channel is this on? I can't find it NBC Nonstop. Here's a grid of where that is for different providers, Channel 341 on Comcast for me. http://www.chicago-fire.com/content/local-channel-listings-provider Nice...the guide said it was "Clubbin TV". Thanks! Fire acquired Alvaro Fernandez for allocation money. Which is good, because the Fire are absolutely bereft of actual talent.

  10. What you actually said: So, like I asked, do you forget everything every 8 seconds?
  11. It will be nice for once to have a player on our team who can talk [expletive] and back it up.
  12. Just when you think Phil Rogers has reached the peak of stupidity, he comes up with this gem. I would love it if this trade would happen. We could then try to flip Pena to the Dodgers along with Dempster or Garza. Unfortunatley, last I checked The Rays had not yet replaced Andrew Friedman with a chimpanzee. Totally plausible.
  13. What's this about Vitters being dismal now? If anything, he's surpassed expectations.
  14. This is the stupidest thing ever, this Dempster thing. All of it.
  15. Are you implying that the White Sox would give up Chris Sale for something? If they're trying to get an upgrade in the pitching staff, why would they be doing that?
  16. Their system is ass I might take Molina and Petricka. Even though both are older. Those guys suck.
  17. Are we looking to trade him for 2 nothings? That farm system is garbage.
  18. Garber really needs to end that part of it. It makes our league look dumb. Also...Eddie Johnson sucks. He's exactly the same player he was 6 years ago. Bad. Pontius should get a look this January. I don't really think he's good enough, but he should get a runout.
  19. My favorite part was when he said all the insane things. Like hirsute.
  20. If that Lukaku loan goes through, Clint would have a better shot at CL play staying at Fulham than moving to Liverpool, there, I said it. Tim Cahill signed as a DP with RBNY.
  21. Maybe we can throw you in the deal as well.
  22. -Traffic only controls the rights to the players they "own" EDIT: Wolfie beat me to it -While in general, MLS's single entity status is a problem with regards to clubs not seeing the majority of the benefit for selling a player on, there are so many other positive/necessary aspects of the current MLS business model that it really can't change for the forseeable future. What does need to change, however, is the overall league philosiphy on when they let players leave and when they don't. If they continue to dick around Gen Adidas players and other youth prospects/promising young players and act difficult when it comes to accepting offers from abroad, eventually kids who do develop through our academy systems won't sign with the league for fear of the same dicking happening to them. Additionally, when players consider coming back toward the end of their careers, they may be reluctant to deal with the league again (Clint has straight up refused to consider coming back to MLS as a result of how they jerked him around vis a vis the Charlton bid, but in hindsight that worked out for Clint). Luis Gil's contract actually contained a provision regarding this; he had refused to sign with the league unless he got assurances that they won't stand in the way of a move when he's ready. -Shea's coach is a jackass, and while I understand why they have to focus on the team first, all they're doing is damaging their most valuable asset, and their reputation as an organization for future signings. -Shea needs a move. Whether or not that's within MLS or overseas, he needs to get away from that enviroment.
  23. It can't be said enough how useless Dallas' attacking players are around him.
  24. Because they're Netherlands-lite; incapable of getting along and working together.
