  1. Its easy to call out guys when things are going bad. My tendency for years was to do that. Baseball tends to police itself over time . If the cubs continue poorly all year the pressure will continue to be wratched up. Ive said that all along also. I just hate the blanket Dusty hate. A hall of fame manager of your choice , would have issues with this team at this time. Coach L
  2. Dont leave out what he said about it not being Dustys fault. Ive said before ,he has managed well this year. This mess is a flawed roster. Time will tell how flawed it is . Thats the beauty of baseball. Coach L
  3. I have said this before. Prior cant hold madduxs jock. I dont want to hear overuse and other excuses that are not validated with proof. Great pitching includes picking up the ball. This pattern by prior is more than disturbing. We need hitters and pitchers who can take on a challenge like maddux and z . at least they take their turn in the rotation. coach L.
  4. Dont blanket cedeno in with those guys , he was brought along fine and then was hurt . Quit letting Dusty hate blind the facts. Coach L
  5. Hill, and Dubois, can you pick two bigger clownshoes as an example , nice try. SF and the cubs have lacked positional talent from within untill now. End of story. By the way i love that post dusty youth movement in the bay area. But i forgot , he probably got on the horn with Felipe and told him what to do. Coach L
  6. Name the "youngsters Dusty has held back. Coach L
  7. Some people did not like Dusty, and there is no proven metric that says he caused injury to either one. Wood was a train wreck , well before dusty. Have a good one. Coach L
  8. Good intentions are like bad ops or defense. They dont count What has Wood done since 2000 freakin 3 and by the way i have an autographed Jersey and ball of KW. I love the man but he has not produced. Big Dog Maddux has taken the ball and kept us in more games than anyone in 2004 5 and 6 . Im tired of the injurys thats why Dusty gets to trot out 3 rookie starters and no DLee and some will still find a way to blame his butt. Coach L
  9. craftiness, determination, a whip of under .90 and and era of 1.35. Oh that and earning his freakin salary by actually picking up a baseball on the day he is supposed and giving up some quality frames. Coach L
  10. Well some people now have there wish Greg Maddux, an underproducing Z and 3 rookies in the rotation. Dusty better not get an ounce of blame with the talent the cubs are trotting on the field. I could care less if Prior or Wood "want to come back. " they have done crap compared to old man Maddux. One of the metrics that count most is can you freakin pick up the ball and produce. I will always be a cub fan and am way proud of their effort so far. They are outmanned Coach L
  11. Except for that 40 year old , we would have been sunk without. I want players who can perform period. Obviously cheap talent (youth) can have great value if they can bring it. I want perfomance and value it from anyone who can bring it . Coach L
  12. Larussa , is an always will be a mullet wearing wank. He plays games all the time. I take nothing that pin head does seriously. Coach L
  13. I agree with soccer 10k , I basically could care less who throws and if they are home grown. I want somebody to earn a paycheck. Thank God for Greg Maddux. I hope some of our younger players can absorb anything he gives off. Coach L
  14. Hendry has ripped peoples faces off in trades. His free agent signings have been hit and miss. He is a strong GM. Time will till how high to rate him. Fantasy predictions of what we should have got , are exactly that fantasy. Coach L
  15. I very much appreciate , the work you have done , Great resource and wonderful venue to articulate feelings on the team that carries our passion . Thanks and keep up the great work . Coach L
  16. Yeah im so mad we signed a hall of famer , who makes his starts and gives us a chance to win games. Lord knows AJ Burnett deserves more. Oh thats right he wont start for a while. Coach L
  17. Tim, dumb question 201 from me. Did you start this site. Coach L
  18. Why, did jack wilson , cabrera, a gone, evertt etc get the contracts they did if d is not valuable. Coach l
  19. Not using all the tools in your toolbox (stolen bases , sacrifices etc) on a basis chosen by the manager, based on his talent. Is every bit as ridged a line of thinking as saying OBP means , never attempt an steal , because it brings a potential out. I coach football and would love to put my paycheck on the line to play someone who would never attempt a pass, because to out of three results could be bad. I understand the math well. But there is a reason teams have gone to great reliance on d and speed. In a series of well pitched games, even high obp teams need to maximize run opportunites against great pitching. Do the math , but dont eliminate weapons. Coach L
  20. Speed, and fielding will increase in importance exponantially in the non steroid era. Money allocation included. They have become undervalued because of The book moneyball and some i repeat some sabermetric viewpoints. Ask Adam Dunn if being able to field is important . He can bring it at the plate. but it kills you to have a Dave Kingman glove in the of .Yeah i lived through that era. The point is scouting oriented teams like Atlanta have seen the value of multi metric evaluations , including a stopwatch. Their success cannot be denied. Coach L
  21. Goony , actually off warp, he was and average player last year not terrible. He is a d first ss like many other winning teams have. I would love Ronny to light it up and i think he will get a good chance. But he has to produce in the field first , then at the plate some. We will see, i am not bummed at this point. Coach L
  22. Nefi ,does not mean failure. Or Boston is done with Agone, houston was with Evertt, La angels with orlando c. etc. No one said we would not prefer a rod or tejada, But winning has and will always be done with a defense first ss. The cubs have to get production at other positions. And get starting pitching from the highly paid and often injured stars prior and wood. They will be fine if that happens. if not they will struggle. Its time to get off the nefi = whipping boy for the cubs bandwagon. Coach L.
  23. First premise. , the board is for what ifs and questions. Nothing wrong with that. To represent what you think Hendry or Baker should do is obviously an opinion, nothing more. There are no GMS on this board, thank God , just people with passionate opionions. Take it for what it is. A fun place to debate and follow the Cubs in a variety of ways. Thanks for all the debate and info. Coach L
  24. Ive watched Marshall , twice this spring. His command is better at this juncture than Hills , that is why along with 3 pitchs and solid stuff, he has jumped ahead of Guzman and Hill. Things change, im happy the cubs have this kind of depth , without even mentioning Prior, Wood and Miller. Coach L
  25. No my friend. , im talking about his time with the cubs. Coach L
