  1. Samson was voted best defensive second baseman by MWL Managers despite playing just 12 games there this season...must have made quite the impression in April, and then in infield drills during the rest of the year.
  2. Smith looked prety good. Nice off speed stuff. Blew away Johnston and Rosa as well. I think he is done. 5 ip, 5h, 2r, 2bb, 3k...and he picked Lara off 1st (not that hard to do). Not the best lefty I have seen this year, but looked good for a MWL debut. the only mistake he made was hit 450 feet by Ridling. Texas 1st rounder Justin Smoak (11th overall, South Carolina) makes his pro debut against us tomorrow night after signing late Friday.
  3. Samson is fine defensively. Think David Eckstein. He'll be just fine at SS especially as he continues to get bigger. Remember is just 20 and playing at 150-155 pounds.
  4. well you arent gonna like the 2nd inning... Not so far. Where did Robert's control go? (He's walked in three runs so far.) no idea but he sure has been awful the last 3 outings. 9.1ip, 12 hits, 12 runs, 10 earned (and the 2 that werent were because he made errors on back to back plays), 6 walks and only 7 K. I wonder if a switch to the pen is in store for him.
  5. well you arent gonna like the 2nd inning...
  6. as far as i know, Lieber is not gonna rehab with us again...Santana, Hernandez, Kreier and PIna/Whitlock in Beloit. Kreier and Coleman are our 2 best by far right now.
  7. Jay jackson's next outing will come in Florida...
  8. Depending on the forthcoming suspensions, he might be right. Maybe...but after a 71 min delay they reversed ALL the ejections...an we are playing again...for the record Castillo, Rosa, Guyer, Merceds, Andersen, Vento and Santana were ejected...along with Interim Manager Carmelo Martinez
  9. Huuuge brawl in Dayton...15 total ejections...both teams will have 2 pitchers in the OF (Jackson/Mueller)...already been delayed 45 minutes...and counting.
  10. Incorrect. Kevin Kreier is today. Jackson will come in tomorrow after Jose Pina throws 2 innings/40 pitches. Santana Friday, Castillo Saturday, Hernandez Sunday...repeat. Marquez Smith to Daytona with Rundle...Chiefs add Ridling, Opitz and Flores from Boise. And Kane County adds the A's #1 pick Jemile Weeks (Rickie's brother) just in time for our series opener tonight.
  11. Rhee looks about the same. Maybe a tick or 2 slower right now as his arm gets stronger.
  12. Jovan Rosa (starting DH) and Blake Parker the 2 Chiefs named to the MWL All-Star Team which is dominated by 9 Clinton LumberKings, 7 Beloit Snappers and 6 Kane County Cougars.
  13. Actually his name is Blake Parker. Listed in Milb as Richard B. Parker. I think Taylor Parker is a completely different guy that was in the system. And Blake is legit.
  14. THe umpiring in this league is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO flipping bad im actually surprised he doesn't get ejected more often. There are times with these guys behind the plate that I almost wish i could get sent away so I ddint have to watch them call the same pitches balls an inning after they call the pitch a strike. I think they guve umpiring degrees out in Cracker Jacks boxes these days...
  15. You're a day late Raisin!!! What gives? Those both happened pre-game yesterday....actually about 9 am! D'oh. How has Kreier looked? What's type of stuff does he have (velocity, secondary pitches)? Thanks... Thats what happens when you wait for the next day's paper!!! Kreier has a slider and a changeup. low 80s with the fastball. I'm intrigued to see how he is going to do coming out of the pen now that Siegfried is back. He did better the 1st time through lineups than the 2nd in his first start.

  17. I'm not sure that's accurate fom that source. Two is more like it.
  18. You didnt want to see our best starter?
  19. This happened April 21st. And again, as i put in the other thread, he is not on the DL, just back in Mesa.
  20. Nope not on the DL...just back in Mesa. Left Saturday after the game. He isn't on our roster at all. And Damn, Jarrod Parker is good...better than Kershaw was this early in the season last year.
  21. Im not worried about the hitting. They are swinging it well and just not finding holes. Last season's average by month in Peoria: April: .226 May: .251 June: .274 So far in April, with 7 games to play, we are at .220 which is in the same category as last year. The hitting will come. We have good hitters with good approaches at the plate. Last year all the numbers were down in April and everyone was down on us and guys ended up with pretty good seasons over .270, especially Adduci, Canzler, Castillo, Lalli, Lansford and Mota who all started slow. This team will definitely have more power numbers than last years which finished with just 61 homers. The hitting doesn't have me worried at all. Now the defense? Well thats a different story altogether. You cannot commit 2 errors per game and expect to win consistenly at any level after high school. That has to change and the guys are putting in extra work daily, especially those learning relatively new positions like Rosa at first, Johnston in the OF and even Samson and Gonzalez who have switched in the middle infield. The pitching is so good so far that if the defense shapes up we will stay afloat until the hitting catches up. Our bullpen is outstanding right now and very tough to score on. But 38 errors and 31 unearned runs in 19 games will hurt any team.
  22. He was only going 40 pitches anyway and threw 38 in the 1st. two Abs were 8-10 pitches long. Chen to start and Ashwood to piggyback him tomorrow... Any sign of injury or was it just a bad inning? Good for Chen, he's been fantastic so far out of the pen. Is Vitters hurt? He was pulled yesterday and isn't starting today. it won't surprise me if they look at Rhee again on the offday. His stuff didnt move as much today as it had. Yes Vitters is hurt. Hurt his left hand while swinging. Day to Day. Donaldson is also hurting so he DH'd today. and Johnston is pretty sick. We are the walking wounded right now.

  24. Nope, LH Chris Siegfried. RH ALberto Cabrera tomorrow and then Rhee...we think. Rhee has not pitched sense the 14th, so yesterday would have been the 5th day. If he does not start till tuesday like you say, that would be 8 days rest. That is correct. And they are going to do that with him for a few times this year. He is in his 1st year as a pro, and they are going to limit his innings and skip a start here and there. He also had a little discomfort on the 14th and didn't throw for two days. But everything worked out with his arm for him to throw a pen yesterday and he should be ready to go Tuesday.
  25. Nope, LH Chris Siegfried. RH ALberto Cabrera tomorrow and then Rhee...we think.
