  2. They're just about equals in my book right now. What advantages Murton has offensively are balanced by the advantages Cedeno brings defensively. Ultimately, I think either would be a terrific #2 hitter, but if Walker's on the team, I'd rather have him there until either can prove more capable. PS - forget a 380 OBP, I'd be ecstatic if Ronny goes 340.
  3. Stop listening to B&B before you form your Alford opinions. If you dislike him, it should be solely for the reason that he is a bad coach.

  10. subscriber Link Wow. The Jays could really contend next year. They'll be good, no doubt. But not good enough to overcome Bos/Ny They'll be the best third place team in baseball. I would not be surprised to see the Blue Jays pass the Red Sox this year. Ditto. If the O's hadn't been sitting on their hands, they would have had a shot at knocking the Sox down to 4th. I really don't see Boston doing much this season. Edit: And they'll still likely have a better record than the Cubs.
  11. Transactions -- just hoping someday to see that blockbuster deal that nets us Tejada, Abreu, Zito, and cash for Neifi, Brownlie, Koronka, and next year's 5th round pick.

  15. Well you can't just let him sit in the bullpen when there isn't a save chance. He's got to get out and use him arm like any other pitcher every once in a while. I'm not advocating sitting him for long stretches. I'm talking about pitching him for a 2nd or 3rd day in a row when the Cubs are up by 5 going into the 9th. I seem to remember that happening often last year and it drives me crazy. That did not happen often. Below is a listing of the games that Ryan Dempster appeared in as a reliever. There were a total of 10 games in which he appeared that the CUBS won by more than 3 runs. (a typical non-save situation). In 7 of those 10 instances, Dempster was pitching on at least 4 days rest. The 01 Jun game vs. Los Angeles was a game started by Koronka, and as you might expect, that meant Baker had to go to the bullpen early and often. While it was the third consecutive game for Dempster and not a save situation, Dempster was the 5th relief pitcher used by the CUBS in the game. In the 24 July game at St Louis, Dempster entered the game in the 9th with a 4-3 lead, and proceeded to pick up a blown save and a win, as Neifi Perez hit a grand slam in the 10th. In the 02 Sept game at Pittsburgh, Dempster entered in the 8th inning with the score 4-3 in favor of the CUBS and was the beneficiary of 3 more CUBS runs in the 9th inning. I'm gonna have to bust you on that one. Teh Cobs have never scored 3 runs in the 9th, silly. :lol:

  19. Where did that Lavin pepper-pop rant come from? I live within 5 minutes of Carver, and the only thing stopping me from heading over there and kicking the snot out of him was sheer laziness.
  20. 500/750? That's all he's got? Makes me happy Hendry didn't pull the trigger on that Brownlie for Dunn + Felipe Lopez + Freel deal a couple of years ago.

  23. Yeah. The fact that he had 3 surgeries on his knee last year and wasn't able to play until September, and the fact that this could be his last year had absolutely nothing to do with it, right? Look, I dislike Bonds as much as the next guy, but some of this steroid stuff is getting out of hand. "Look! He jogged down to first base on the walk! He didn't sprint because the body gets injured easier when you're on steroids!" "Look! He was lifting weights! I bet it was to enhance all those steroid-addled muscles!" "Oh no! Bonds has a hat on! I bet it's to hide his bald spot from all those steroids!" Give it a rest. Hey, erik's defending Bonds. Must be the juice. :lol:
