  1. That is a judgement call. There are only 2 kinds -- judgement calls and those from the rulebook. It's the same as if a runner is thrown out at first by a step and the ump blows it. It was in his judgement that the batter was safe, therefore no out is recorded. An example of the other type is if one of the umps forgets about the infield fly rule and starts calling the wrong people safe and the wrong guy out. Historically, that call would have stood as it was his call to make. Like I said, I don't know what changed and why, but they're starting to overturn each other more frequently.
  2. #12 in over 100 years of suckage batting 2nd. Sounds about right for this franchise.
  3. Or a homeless guy to a crackhead. ? Sorry, my hatred for the city of St. Louis runs much deeper than my hatred for most things. If I offended any homeless guys or crackheads, I sincerely apologize.
  4. And the compromising photos he has of Dusty, Jeff Kent, and a mule.
  5. Wolf, you have got to keep that sig going for as long as possible! At least until you come to the realization that they both suck.
  6. The best sign I ever saw was a WGN sign: Women Get Naked
  7. The old rule of thumb was that a call could be overturned, on appeal, if the call made was incorrect according to the rules. Judgement calls could not be overturned. I have started to see it occur more and more over the past few years where those judgement calls are being overturned, and I really don't know the reason for it.
  8. If he's playing 2nd, he's probably batting there too.
  9. We were 4-14 against the Mets in 1985. They flat-out owned us that year. That was back in the glory days before the NL Central. The Mets were probably more hated as rivals than the Cardinals. People your age will probably never appreciate the hatred people my age and older hold for the Mets. A lot of it has gone away since the Central was added, but I still remember those days.
  10. It was a dominating season by a hated rival. That's why the Cubs fan in me says it was one of the worst. As a baseball fan, it was one of the best seasons I can remember. I wouldn't necessarily refer to the Mets as a hated rival. They sure as hell were in 1985.
  11. Well, isn't that a sight for sore eyes after the big team's first couple of games...

  13. This Cubs fan says it was one of the worst pitching seasons in my lifetime. ? Um, he pitched for the Mets. NL East...

  15. But if we did this all the time, it would take 324 days to complete the regular season. I could handle baseball year-round.
  16. Hmm, the link to it from Cubs.com is now gone too.
  17. Hmm. I assumed it would probably be Ryu since Guz/Hill both threw Tuesday (?) and Brownlie got some work in during the last ST game.
  18. Is Valdes really pitching for Iowa tonight? I thought he was MIA all spring. :?
  19. If pitchers grooved a strike on the first pitch, you would have seen Ryno swing at a helluva lot more of them.
  20. The ICubs website is saying "TDB" for each pitcher. Maybe Hill was slated but they're planning on calling him up instead. Hill pitched Tuesday as well. Edit: My guess is Ryu.
  21. Did you go to the 1st game Wood pitched in Des Moines last year?
  22. Sweet! By the way, Gooz pitched Tuesday. If starters have been announced, they're not online yet.
  23. Or a homeless guy to a crackhead.
  24. I don't think the words Steinbrenner and stability belong anywhere near each other.
