  1. I'm not sure I would want to go into the 2008 season with an OF of Soriano, Pie & Murton. While I like the individual players, I don't think the whole adds up to enough offense. Of course there is still the business of finishing this season in a most fantastic way. This "next year" stuff is a tough habit to break. I wanted to go into 2007 with an OF of Soriano, Pie, and Murton providing an upgrade was made at SS. I want to go into 2008 the same way.
  2. So you say I'm being ridiculous for saying that momentum could exist in other sports including baseball and then you state that momentum exist to "some degree" in baseball, but is "pretty minimal" to the point of being negible with no evidence nor explanation. Talk about calling the kettle black. Do me a favor ask a baseball player if he believes in momentum and see what he says. Baseball players believe a lot of things to be true that aren't. Most of them aren't the smartest guys on earth. Ask a baseball player if a corked bat is helpful. Ask certain baseball players if sliding into first base is a good idea. Etc. Carl Everett doesn't believe in dinosaurs. but does he know if the earth is round?
  3. Or...you know...the playoffs. I assumed this as well. A short term fix. yes, the plans are to completely resurface the field in the offseason

  5. If you're a D-1 football player and can't get laid for free...
  6. I'd prefer Hayden Panettiere, but I still might do the Rotoworld deal if they sent some cash as well.
  7. because they've won 3 in a row? they lost 4 in a row right before that At least they haven't given up, like the Cards. It's interesting to see a team that won the World Series last year play with such a lack of pride. more like lack of talent Did Wainwright, Eckstein, Edmonds, Spiezo, Ankiel, Miles and that Pujols guy all of a sudden all become talentless bums? Eckstein, 2007 Edmonds, Spiezio, Ankiel, Miles and a crippled Pujols? Yes, not to mention no Rolen.
  8. Give me an example of when a player is somehow more valuable than what he produces. For the sake of discussion...not being argumentative. This is purely hypothetical, but suppose Soriano, Ramirez, and Lee have seasons typical of their career norms with a supporting cast eerily similar to the previous season in which there was a 15 game improvement in wins. The biggest statistical difference happens to be the addition of DeRosa, who puts up an ERA+ around 105 while his career number is closer to 90 and also provides a defensive upgrade at his position. An argument for DeRosa as MVP under this scenario isn't ludicrous. I think it is ludicrous. Simply outperforming career norms doesn't qualify as a most valuable season. even if his added value means more to the performance of the team? Seriously, though, just because DeRosa is (in your hypothetical) the primary statistical difference between the two teams, that doesn't mean that he's more valuable to the current team. If you took DeRosa out and put a replacement level player in, the difference would likely not be as big as if you took ARam out and put a replacement level player in. I understand. I'm not saying that DeRosa deserves the MVP in my hypothetical situation, I'm saying it wouldn't be out of line to consider him as being the most valuable to that situation.

  11. The only possibilities are D-Backs or Mets - the Phils or Pads would have the other

  14. most valuable does not automatically mean most productive, not that I agree with Theriot as team MVP by any means
  15. all I keep hearing is right organization, wrong guy
  16. I find it terribly hard to justify spending that much money on a sporting event. My memories would be more significant sitting at home with a group of family and friends than bouncing in Wrigley with assloads of strangers and maybe 1 person I know. I apply the same logic here that fat ladies everywhere should consider before buying spandex -- just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should.
  17. let's also not forget that he didn't want to go to the Nationals and threatened to sit out if he didn't get to play 2B, long before the Nats were in last place
  18. I thought you were talking about the video under the one about Piniella -- the man who undresses in 7 seconds
  19. Wait what is it you're mad about? The Cubs just got done sweeping the Pirates and building about as comfortable of a lead as you could have hoped for going into the weekend. What is it you're perturbed about? The Cardinals are really hurt and banged up right now. Pujols was out there playing, and they had their best pitcher on the mound, so they aren't trying to tank it here. I'm guessing the Brewers get 2 of 3 from the Cards. The Cubs are going to have to win against a team they SHOULD win against. I don't think that's a change from Sunday. 2/3 from each team over the next 3 days gives us a magic number of 1 with 3 left. I like those odds.
  20. Adam Greenberg more likely. And Adam Greenberg did step in the batter's box. as did Fuld
  21. that led me to perezhilton.com which led me to Margaret Cho naked on youtube -- it's funny how life works
