  1. Yes but it was a multi-team trade (including TX, OAK, and CHC)
  2. maybe the guy that made 2 errors, 1 costly, should just shut up. LOL, I saw that too and I agree that Miles should be quite because his errors were costly. Of the 7 runs Marquis surrendered, only 4 were earned. Considering the final score was 7-3 the Cubs most likely would have won anyway.
  3. Pat Listasch? Wasn't he on B&B's "Who can it be now?" or is it just the Mystery Guest?
  4. I think he has a 1.01 ERA against the Cubs at Wrigley. His overall ERA is affected, in part, by that really bad start he had in FL, last year, when he gave up 6 or 8 runs. I believe that was Muton's ML debut.
  5. They are appearing out of necessity.
  6. Sosa's in 2003? Cardinals' fan?
  7. So all that crap about none of them being back until June was just that... Crap? I believe it was Paul Sullivan that said none of them would return until June (while everyone else in the media and associated with the team is pointing to May for Prior and Wood).
  8. From Mike Kiley in the Suntimes
  9. dusty would, but it would be a result of hendry resigning macias to catch  Technically, they don't need Macias. Mabry is the emergency third catcher. Where did you get that information from? Wikipedia BTW, I think putting Barrett at 1B is weakening one spot to make another stronger. It doesn't help in the long run. Yeah, but the idea isn't for it to be permanent, but just to keep his bat in the game on days when he doesn't catch. I don't think that's productive in the long run. Catching is a physically demanding position so on days that Barrett isn't the starting catcher I think it's best that he rest (except for the occasional PH) His offense will begin to suffer from overuse. Plus, there is an injury concern by having both experienced catchers playing in the same game. If one goes down, the team is forced to use an emergency fill-in and the bench is minus a hitter. You don't need to use the emergency catcher if both are playing. Assuming Barrett is at first and Blanco gets hurt, you just move Barrett behind the plate and put someone else at 1B(Mabry/Restovich/Walker). You're right, I guess I was thinking that something would happen to both. In either case, what is being suggested sounds like Barrett essentially playing everyday (either as a 1B or catcher). Which potentially also means Blanco will have a lot more starts than he's had in a couple of years. I don't think it's smart and I don't think it's something the Cubs would consider.

  13. Why is everybody saying Wood/Prior? Don't count on them plain and simple. Let Wood go. Bye bye woody!! And count Prior as a bonus BACKUP 5th starter. . Zambrano solid #2 FA Maddux Marshall/Miller/Guzman Marshall/Miller/Guzman/Ryu/Rusch/Williams/Prior/FA#5. I want a pitching staff that all start the season strong and ready to pitch. And pitch all year. No more freakin depending on Wood and Prior. . Because we have a different opinion... We all heard you the first time... Ok just wanted to post it where it wasn't so cluttered in the mass reply thread. Explain to me why you (if you) would want to rely on Wood and Prior again. And why you think they will finally start pitching full years out of spring training? To say oh well we have different opinions is the easy way out, but explain why, after all the heartache. You'd want to go into 2007 with them near the top of your line-up. First of all, I never provided a preferred rotation order. I merely stated the names I thought had the best chance to be retained as well as those I'd like to see return. I said we had different opinions because I didn't feel like explaining myself... Plus, when you say "don't count on them plain and simple" you don't sound like you're open to hearing opposing views and you aren't taking into account that they may both be healthy and pitch well this year. When they're healthy they are good to great pitchers. In Wood's case, I have already stated that he is my favorite Cubs player so I hope for nothing but good things for and from him. Additionally, I am hoping that the surgery has repaired his shoulder so that he can pitch consistently like he did between 2001-03. Prior is under contract with the Cubs through 2008 so again, I hope that he will provide good things this year and in the future. Projecting him as a 5th starter isn't very logical from my standpoint but I do think that Hendry will work hard to fill the other spots in the rotation, and perhaps an extra starter, so that the team isn't caught off guard should an injury occur.

  15. My hand is up as well.
  16. I didn't see this posted anywhere but the Blue Jays placed Burnett back on the DL yesterday. Link That last paragragh sounds familiar...

  18. If this is true, I'm excited to see what this kid can do for us. I've been hearing about this kid for three friggin years - I am PSYCHED to see what he can do at the MLB level. I just hope that if he tears it up, they won't immediately ship him out for Doug Mientkewicz or some other scrub that can't help us near as good as a strong and healthy Guzman. I doubt it. Hendry has to keep an eye to the 2007 rotation with the possibility of, at least, 2/ 5 of this year's anticipated starters nolonger being with the club. The Cubs will need some quality arms. If Guzman pitches well I think he'll start for the Cubs next year. 2007: Wood Prior Maddux Zambrano Guzman  My guess is that Wood and Maddux are the two out next year although Wood has a mutual option in 2007. Zambrano and Prior are really the only locks for 2007 right now but I imagine that Marshall, Guzman, and possibly Hill will be given the opportunity to win a spot. The Cubs may also attempt to sign Miller if he pitches decently this year. I really believe Wood will be back next year. He's my favorite. I hope he's healthy and I hope you're right.

  21. Actually, Ron Santo said that during yesterday's game.
  22. Muskat seems to think Guzman will start on Wednesday. Link
  23. Seriously, Ronnie Woo Woo is a total tool. A couple years ago I was at Murphy's after a game with some BeerBuddies. Ronnie Woo Woo comes over to the table and does his "Cubs Woo, Cubs Woo!" routine. As soon as he's done he asks us to buy him a beer. To which we said "Umm...no". He then moves on to the table next to us and does the same routine with the same result. He basically went around the bar doing the routine until someone bought him a beer. When he's done with his free beer, he starts all over again. Same night my friends and I had left Murphy's at a point and returned several hours later. Sure enough, there's Ronnie still doing the routine. The day for us was something like 14 hours of power drinking, Ronnie was doing his pathetic routine for free drinks the entire time. The guy is a complete loser. That's what I figured.
  24. Covered in grease? The ump checked it and there was no evidence of anything. The only thing that was on those balls was the mud they use before the game! He said "looks like it's covered in grease," not that it IS covered in grease. I know what he said. I was irate about the idea not what he said.
