  1. on espn's chat too MLB TRADE UPDATE FROM THE MAG'S AMY NELSON A baseball source says the Dodgers are finalizing a trade to bring Cesar Izturis for Greg Maddux.
  2. How do you figure a waste? Todd Walker is very mediocre 2B (average fielding at best, little power, no speed, .280 hitter). What do you think they could get for him? He came into the league as a 3B with the Twins and they have Barfield at 2B. My guess is they figure they have nothing to lose putting him at third. That .350 OBP for the last 2 years, with the .800+ OPS is better than mediocre for a 2B, but whatever.
  3. MLB TRADE UPDATE FROM JAYSON STARK Cubs have traded Todd Walker to San Diego for Jose Ceda, 19-year-old RHP from the Dominican.
  4. Why would anyone want to watch or listen to him for 2 hours?
  5. I told my buddy something similar: "you guys need arms much more than bats or gloves." Kip Wells? apparently
  6. Just saw on ESPN's chat that Lugo doesn't want to move to 2nd. isn't that where the Sox would play him?
  7. This is a case of quantity over quality. quantity is a quality Sometimes. But is a ton of crap really better than a pound of crap? I'd argue no.
  8. Make that five. ESPN.com is reporting they just picked up Kyle Loshe from Minnesota. I guess if you're a Reds fan you just have to be happy that they didn't give up Dunn for a couple middle relievers. After the Lopez/Kearns deal, that had to be Reds fans' worst nightmare.
  9. Q - is Casey a FA at year's end?
  10. I agree. Frankly, given that the only thing Casey does is get on base, he's not going to help them much. Leyland isn't going to put him near the top of the order, so he's going to hit 7th or so. He'll get on base for Inge, but that's about it. I don't see this having much impact on their chances in the playoffs.
  11. I just don't agree. Rogers is their ace. He will likely get beat by every other ace on an AL playoff team. The Tigers are a very good team, but Bonderman is their best pitcher, Rogers isn't an "ace" and Verlander has never gone this deep in a season. And Jones isn't exactly lights out at the end of the game. Depending on how the teams shake out, they could lose in the first round.
  12. What's the record for most RPs added during a season that have had essentially no effect on a team winning a race (either division or WC)? I'm thinking the Reds with 4 has to be up there.
  13. ESPN has it as a done deal...nice move for the Tigers. Added a guy w/ a .377 OBP for a 24-year-old minor league non-closing RP, so yes. On the other hand, the Tigers have all but wrapped up the ALC, so I don't see it having a great effect on their team. The Tigers are my 2nd favorite team, so I'd like to see them add a good SP (I don't trust the Gambler), but they don't seem to be focused on that.
  14. And I thought Who/Nirvana was bad. This is going to kill me. I'm leaning JHE, but can be convinced otherwise.
  15. key word there is MIGHT Well, I'm not sure that there is really a key word there. But I can't believe you'd want the Cubs to overspend on 2 past-their-prime players that have put up great numbers for 1 season each (Lugo had solid numbers last year, but a leadoff hitter w/ a .363 OBP & no power still isn't worth $8-10m). Pinning your hopes of improving on either of these guys matching their current #s is foolish, imo. That said, I'll be surprised if both of these guys aren't Cubs next year. Hendry will be fooled by their current numbers and give them 4 year deals and then they'll return to their career numbers and we'll suck again in '07.
  16. thats about what the Cubs offered Mr. Furcal. Free agents can ask for whatever they want, but I think Lugo and Carlos Lee are going to get less than what they want. Both of these guys might get some decent money, but I'm not sure they will get 4 or 5 year contracts. Hell. The Cubs better do whatever it takes to get at least one of them on the North Side. If they dont a lot of fans are going byebye Oh, I don't know about that. Lugo's a 31-year-old SS. His last 2 seasons are his best, but his career OBP is .343 (.752 OPS) - not exactly going to fill that 1/2 hole. Lee's a 30-year-old corner OF with a career .833 OPS. Yes, his .896 OPS for the year looks good, but I'm guessing you'll get more of his July (.845) than his June (.952) numbers for the next 4 years. If we get either of them for a reasonable price, that'd be ok, but I'm not pinning my playoff hopes on either of these guys. And any team that signs them to a 4-5 year deal might be disappointed by the production in years 3-5, if not before.
  17. This has been my hardest vote yet. But I went Who. Nirvana may have been able to catch them with a few more records, but the Who just have too many great songs.
  18. This just makes me laugh. Beatles overrated? no, but you can at least make an argument, given that they're widely regarded as the best band ever. But they don't have much talent? I cannot possibly think of a definition of "talent" that would make that statement true.
  19. Even assuming that's true, why is that unfortunate? If he gets destroyed in every start for the rest of the year and causes us to lose 3-5 games that we otherwise would have won, who cares? Seriously, this season is a complete loss. He has no trade value at this point. He mopped up AAA for a few months. To my knowledge, there isn't a high risk of arm injury w/ him. This is the perfect chance to find out what Hill has to offer.
