  1. And coming into today, he had a 1.030 OPS for July. Man I wish Dusty would just play him every day against all pitchers for the rest of the season.
  2. There are a handful of PJ songs that I absolutely love. But the vast majority of their music, esp since Vs., I think is crap.
  3. Then you MUST listen to this. It's an outtake of a voice overdub with John and Paul of "and your bird can sing", who apparently came into the studio COMPLETELY HIGH and out of control. It's a great gem, it's on the anthology, so not sure if you've heard it. But they are definitely high as kites. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_deklfynegU Beatles? High? Never!
  4. He still might sign him to a 3 year deal. He just needs a change of scenary.
  5. I give this post my full support.
  6. For some reason this post made me laugh more than it should have. A camel?
  7. But don't forget the grandaddy song of modern thrash rock! "Helter Skelter"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1NJdiJXSvA I tend to like the Beatles' less pop-iconized hits better. "Helter Skelter" is much better than "Hello, Goodbye" or "She Loves You" imo. "Hello, Goodbye" is the stupidest Beatles song ever. Well, there is a great problem in that so many people who don't listen to them only know the iconicized Beatles as the moptops from the Ed Sullivan show singing "She Loves You" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and stuff like that. They don't realize that the boys grew up from pioneering modern pop music and went into pioneering acid rock with "tomorrow never knows" and "I am the walrus", and then helped pioneer thrash/heavy metal with songs like "helter skelter", "happiness is a warm gun", "...me and my monkey", and "revolution". Me & My Monkey is one of my favorite songs of all time. But my favorite Beatles song is And Your Bird Can Sing.
  8. I'd agree, but it's closer than I thought it'd be right now (22-11).
  9. Sore knee still bothering him. Thanks. Just have Gameday on and say he was replaced but couldn't figure out what the "leg injury" was.
  10. I wouldn't. There are days I'd prefer the pumpkins, but the vast majority of the time I'd take the Beatles. Esp Revolver or Rubber Soul.
  11. I was scared when this was 7-4, but 19-6 looks much better.
  12. The only logical explanation that I can come up with is that the shorter grass allows his grounders to get through the IF whereas tall grass slows them down so that fielders can get to them. Frankly, since he hits most of his grounders directly at the second baseman, I don't think the length of the grass matters.
  13. Why in the "bleeeeeeeeeeeep" does this idiot insist on playing guys who don't have along term future with the Cubs. Play Murton already you moron. I think you got to give Pagan and Murton a shot. Both show promise. Pagan hasn't shown a thing. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs thought he had a long term future with the team. They like unproductive athletes. You judge that on 40 AB's? I won't speak for goony, but I've come to the same conclusion based on about 2000 less than impressive ABs in the minors. link
  14. The #1s are going to cruise to the final four for me.
  15. Is it just me or is the hottest hitter on our team batting 6th? Why would you put Barrett that far down in the order? He's got an 1.114 OPS in July.
  16. To be fair, Grateful Dead and Phish shows were so much different b/c of the jams. You can't really capture that on a studio album. Maybe that's the point IMOY was trying to make, but I've never considered DMB a "jam band" in the same sense as Phish or the Dead. In addition, let's not take this "you can't say you don't like someone if you haven't seen their show" and equate it to a Dead or Phish fan (like me) saying "if you really want to appreciate this music, you should see it live." If you're not a fan of jamming, you probably weren't going to be moved by a Phish show. So if you say, I hate jam bands, I'm not going to say "you can't hate Phish if you haven't seen them live." I'd probably just say "you have every right to be wrong." Not trying to pick on you in particular Derwood, just sticking up for my boys (who got SHELLED in the first round).
  17. In place of anybody. Zambrano should be rested a bit here and there. Marshall and Marmol are going to go way past normal thresholds if they continue on this pace. Maddux serves no purpose to this organization other than a reminder that the Cubs are one of the worst teams in pro sports in getting the most out of players during their prime years, but all too happy to pay big money for past performance in declining players. Either trade him, or skip him a bit. And Prior could miss any number of starts without surprising people. I have nothing more to add, so I'll just say I'm a big Rich Hill supporter and agree with everything that goony has posted in this thread. Give the kid a shot already. Not every good ML pitcher was totally dominant in their first handful of starts.
  18. I'd rather get a look-see at Hill for the rest of the season than Marmol or Marshall. They've both done pretty well, looked very good at times, but both skipped AAA. Hill is done at AAA; he's done what he can do. Bring him up and give him 3 months to get his bearings and see if he's a ML starter or not. We don't need him to spend the next 3 months proving he really is that dominant at AAA. As Neyer said in his chat yesterday, Hill has something like 43 ML innings, let's not give up on him yet.
  19. Then as a drummer, I suggest you go listen to some tool right now. I HATE Maynard or whatever the singers name is. Their video imagery is tired too. That said, Danny Carey is on a whole other level. Thanks for the advice, but as I've said, I've listened to Tool, not a ton, but some. In my opinion, as a drummer, he's not the best drummer alive. . Well...if THIS gentleman was still alive, there'd be no contest as to who was the greatest drummer alive. He was like the Clapton or Hendrix of drums. He did more to advance and influence rock drumming than anyone who ever played, in my opinion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AHYnrcjMx4 Couldn't agree more and that's some great evidence. Took me at least a week to learn that drum solo.

  21. I spent about 10 years studying percussion and at least 15 playing the drums and I simply can't stand Tool (not my genre). Thus, I haven't listened to a ton of Carey, but I'd disagree that he's the best rock drummer alive. Without listening to it, how can you make that judgement? As I said, I haven't listened to a ton of Carey (or Tool), but I've heard it. Maybe I'd like him more if I liked Tool more, but I just don't care for it.
  22. He's WAY WAY up there. He's just soooo effortless almost. His timing never falters no matter how fast or how offbeat his fills are. Could very well be. I was disagreeing more with the way MCON made his opinion out to be the end-all-be-all. I think reasonable people can differ on who the best living drummer, or any other musician, is. I also don't think you have to have studied or even played a particular instrument to have a reasonable opinion about it.
