  1. you like them better personally or you think Metallica are actually better songwriters-musicmakers? Perhaps when some people want to crank up the radio, they aren't interested in "Love Me Do," "Yesterday" or "Penny Lane." I love when people argue that the Beatles aren't "rock" enough and then pick songs like Yesterday to attack. "Kerry Wood wasn't a fireballer. His curve barely hit 70 mph." Yes, but even if you take the Beatles' hardest song (say, Helter Skelter) it sounds like James Taylor compared to Battery No doubt Metallica is the heavier rock band. If his argument had been, "some people like to crank up the radio, and Metallica is better for that b/c they rock harder than the Beatles" - no problem. It's just that this has come up a few times now "the Beatles aren't rock" or whatever. But people always bring up Yesterday as support. Well, I noticed you didn't use Nothing Else Matters as your token Metallica song to prove that they rock. You picked what I assume is one of their harder rock songs to prove your point. That's valid - it makes sense. I'm just tired of reading that the Beatles aren't rock music b/c they wrote some great ballads.

  3. Didn't really even have to think about this one.
  4. Easy for me - Cedeno in a heartbeat.
  5. I think he's pointing out that it's pretty easy to buy a glove. Cedeno's just a rookie. He may not have the funds available to buy another glove. You're kidding me, right? You know what the MLB minimun salary is, right? Yes - apparently I need to be a little more clear with my sarcasm.
  6. I think he's pointing out that it's pretty easy to buy a glove. Cedeno's just a rookie. He may not have the funds available to buy another glove. hehe. Guys can get as many gloves as they want, same goes for bats, batting clothes, spikers, whatever. Manufactures like Louisville Slugger, Rawlings, will send these guys all they want. Hench the humor in my "joke."

  8. So, you're telling me that if Neifi had to miss a game or two with the flu or something, the Cubs would have to bring up someone to play 2nd until Cedeno got a new glove? Sure seems like Dusty is just trying to find some more ABs for his boy.
  9. If Metallica wins this, I may cancel my subscription to NSBB.
  10. I voted Jimi, but I'm still not sure about it. Love both bands.
  11. I'm going to assume you haven't read this entire thread, since there was quite a discussion about the fact that JH turned down several "top prospects" - including possibly Guzman or Kemp - either of which would have been a fantastic return for 2 months of Maddux. I read that also, but was that ever proven? I can't see Hendry turning down those prospects? Why would he? He's not good at his job. Bruce essentially confirmed Will Carroll's report in the thread about his column today.

  13. Neyer's take: Kevin (Manassas): Great trade for Jim Hendry and the Cubs. I hate to see Maddux leave, but to get Cesar Izturis in return, what a steal. He is a gold glove shortstop, and can hit second behind Pierre, and they can move Cedeno to second base, and hopefully we will not have to see Neifi Perez anymore. SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:10 PM ET ) Yes. That .302 on-base percentage should slot in the No. 2 spot quite nicely.
  14. Thanks for the recap RR. Sometimes JH says things I like (taking fault for some issues, giving young SPs chances for the rest of the year, we shouldn't have been so bad, even w/o DLee), then he says things like he wants to resign Pierre b/c he's a hard worker. Unfortunately, you don't get awarded wins b/c your leadoff hitter works hard. If he actually got on base at a real good clip, that would be something.
  15. And probably the year after that... Izturis has to be thrilled. He's almost guaranteed to have his club option picked up for '08, when there is no chance the Dodgers would have taken it.
  16. Cedeno may not be who you want, but I think it's who JH wants.
  17. Thanks for posting a link. I guess I'm underwhelmed by these deals. Thanks for all the info you have shared with us. I think its pretty cool that someone in the media still posts on a message board and leaves themselves open to critizism. In your opinion, what would you like to have seen the Cubs do? Thanks Ben I wouldn't have given Walker away for one thing. I would have gone the "prospect" route with Maddux, provided they were the right prospects. I just don't see this trade as making a big, positive impact. Izturis is probably OK in the right spot in the right lineup, but how many times have we seen that with this outfit? Any confirmation on who the prospects could have been? Kemp or Guzman like Carroll reported?
  18. But this is true - assuming the guy w/ the .300 AVG doesn't have a wildly crazy BABIP or something, logic suggests you'd prefer a .300/.350 guy. But I think the Cubs philosophy is that a .300/.320 guy is better than a .280/.350 guy. And that's simply stupid.
  19. agreed. if you come back, i will make a beautiful scrapbook detailing the rest of your starts in a cub uniform...complete with ticket stubs, newspaper clippings, the works...i miss you, greg! I fully blame you two for this deal.
  20. I keep seeing on the espn chat that the Mets may have gotten linebrink - anyone hear anything about this?
  21. 2B I would rather have than Todd Walker: Utley, Figgins, Uggla, Weeks, Phillips, Durham, Iguchi, Roberts, Freel, Barfield, J. Lopez, L. Castillo, Giles, Biggio, Loretta, Polanco, Vidro, Grudz, Kinsler, Kent, Cano, Cantu. THAT is what I mean by mediocre. Walker was bad this year, but he was a very affordable quality 2B for this club for the past 2 years. If you're basing it on this year alone, Walker's near the bottom. But during his time in Chicago, he was very solid and very cheap. His .350 OBP should have been used better by Dusty. FRANKLY, the list of players you'd PREFER to Walker doesn't prove anything regarding HIS value, other than your OPINION of him.
  22. So he's going to LA w/ Maddux, eh?
