  1. Nonsensical. DeRosa and Floyd should be switched. They don't want to put Floyd and Jones back to back-too easy to put the teams best left-hander in when it comes time for the two of them later in the game. So go: Theriot DeRosa Lee Floyd ARam Jones Blanco Izturis I'd be fine with that, although so far this season things seem to be switched. DeRosa has been great power, horrible OBP. I wouldn't want to see the lineup they have today as a long-term lineup, but I don't think it's that bad either. if things come down to it, i want ramirez with that extra at bat over floyd. I'd rather have ARam hit 4th too, but if Lou is hell-bent on splitting up his LH's, I'd rather have ARam hit 5 than Floyd hit 2nd.

Well, I'd prefer if Murton were in there and batting 2nd to give us better OBP at the top (I know he hasn't been great in his 30 ABs, but I think he's more likely to be around the .365 he's been for the first 500 or so ABs of his career than the .300 he's been in the last 30 ABs). But I think DeRosa is better in the 2 spot than Floyd. Heck, Jones would probably be better than Floyd for the 2 spot.

  4. Floyd in the 2-hole? Is Lou just trying to be funny?
  5. David Ortiz is not impressed.
  6. manuel needs to get fired asap. My favorite part is his justification. I suppose that's a true statement. Some might argue that 220 IP out of one of your best pitchers is better than 70 IP, but those people aren't stupid, so Manuel isn't persuaded.
  7. Nice season Truffle (I think that was you). Came from 3rd and beat the 2 top-ranked teams in the playoffs. No debating the winner of this league (though I'm going to lay at least part of the blame for my team's collapse on some really bad injuries, not all of it, but some). Anyway, as I said before, are we keeping this league going? If so, when does each team have to decide who to keep? This is my first keeper league, so I'm just trying to figure it out.
  8. Oh I don't think Cubs fans should be throwing rocks around in this particular glass house. After all Rich Hill with all, what, 9 career wins is better than Carlos Zambrano. the difference being that Rich Hill has been better than Carlos Zambrano for half a season now... and Carlos Zambrano is not the best pitcher in baseball Right. You really think anyone outside of a few Cubs fans believe this to be true? I love Rich Hill, but until I see him dominate like Z has for most of his career this is just silly. Whether Hill or Z will be better going forward is a matter of opinion, but right now (based on about the last half of last year and a few starts this year) Hill has been better. That doesn't mean Hill is a better pitcher than Z or will be in the future (maybe so, maybe not). But for the last 1/2 season or so, he has been. I don't see why that's so controversial.
  9. Is the red line really that bad with all the work being done? Yes Is it just crazy busy, even during the day? Or is there something else going on?
  10. The first sentence might be true (hard to say what the Yankees think - I'd be shocked if they thought anyone was better than Jeter). But if Z could piece together a good start or two, they would certainly listen. ARod might bolt after the year anyway, so they might take Z if they can get an extension in place for him. It'll take another pitching prospect or two, I would think, but they'll certainly listen. Of course, Z would go to NY and suddenly find control and become one of the best pitchers in baseball - leading them to the WS for 3 or 4 years. Just b/c we're the Cubs and that's how things work.
  11. I could, but since you just beat me 8-1-1, I'm not going to... J/k, what do you need? Just if you can check in and bench guys that aren't playing for guys that are that'd be awesome. I can still access my team, just can't make moves, so I'll PM you or something if I want to add/drop somebody. Is this permanent? Because that would be a lot of work. Actually, yeah, that does seem ridiculous. I'm still going to check my team everyday (just can't make moves because they'll ask for a login confirm), so I'll just keep tabs and let you know if I need anything. Thanks. Sign up for a new Y! account and have your commish email Y! and ask to assign your team to your new account. All he needs is your current Y! ID, your new Y! ID and your email address. I had to do this as commish for someone in another nsbb league. One of the nsbb faithful tipped me off to this resolution (though he wasn't part of the league), so I'll pass it along even though I'm not part of this league. Hope it works.
  12. 1 or 3 - just b/c I'd rather move Jones than Murton. And I have no real interest in Blanton.
  13. Just because you're turning 50, go ahead and have 2. Just this once. Happy Birthday - really appreciate you stopping by and chatting with us.
  14. Iowa is calling Matt. Do people realize that Matt is hitting nearly .300 right now? He's above league average. LOL. A .500ish OPS is above league average? IT'S 25 ABS!!! Of course it is. It's stupid to judge him based on 25 AB. But I'm not the one that started throwing out his numbers ten games into the season. Then again, I'm also not the one that continually obsesses about Murton not playing against RHP in favor of a far more accomplished player. Well, when someone says Murton should be sent to Iowa b/c of his game today, I don't think it's unreasonable to post the fact that he was hitting .286 coming into today. BTW - you know who else is a far more accomplished player? Sammy Sosa. He was pretty freaking good in the early 2000's, just like Floyd.
  15. Iowa is calling Matt. Do people realize that Matt is hitting nearly .300 right now? He's above league average. LOL. A .500ish OPS is above league average? IT'S 25 ABS!!! That's 1/8 of his AB's last year. It's not THAT small of a size. Are you serious? We should make decisions based on 25 ABs sprinkled over the first 2+ weeks in April? You're not seriously arguing that 25 ABs is a significant sample size, are you?

  17. Iowa is calling Matt. Do people realize that Matt is hitting nearly .300 right now? He's above league average. Yeah, maybe his OBP is around .300. i believe murton was hitting .240 before that last out And .286 heading into the game. Big swings in AVG when we're talking such a small sample size. He's not playing well now, granted, but it's been 2 weeks with very limited and sporadic ABs.

  19. Matt Murton is a big reason why. lol If by "big reason" he means "1/9 of the reason" - I agree.
  20. Seriously, can we take the discussion about WS winners, the Cards in 06, etc, elsewhere?
  21. I doubt that DeRosa is even being considered at SS very much except for an emergency situation-I think he can play it, but with 2 SS's already on the roster I think Lou wants to split the innings mostly between them before shifting the starter for another position over to cover it. i meant derosa at 2nd and theriot at ss I haven't seen any indications that they think Theriot can play SS either. If they did, don't you think he would have gotten in some part of a game there already? I mean he's had time in LF, RF, 2B, and 3B-but no SS (and there have been several chances to get him in there easily, if it be a start or a double switch). I have to think that Theriot is seen only as an "emergency" SS (to the extent that there is such a thing). If he could handle it, I'd love to have him at SS and DeRosa at 2B, but I don't think Lou sees that as an option right now.
  22. I agree completely. So, he'll have more pressure on him for his first AB, but after that it's just like any of the other 40 at bats. Plus, won't he see better pitches with T-Riot and the heart of the order protecting him, versus Blanco? So it didn't matter when Neifi and Corey were hitting 1-2 in front of Lee as opposed to 7-8? It's generally accepted, I think, that lineup configuration does not matter significantly in wins and losses. If you're deciding whether to hit Ruth ahead of Gehrig or vice versa, I totally agree. If you're deciding whether Neifi hits second (with his .300 OBP) or Murton and his .360 OBP, I think over the course of a season, it can cost you enough runs to make difference. But that would be nearly impossible to prove.
  23. The way Piniella presented it to Soriano was as an option, not a demand. It wasn't like he said "You're going to LF." and Soriano told him to stick it. It was "Will moving to LF help your hitting with not having so much to worry about?" and he said he was fine, that CF wasn't a distraction. I don't think this is an issue. What happens when Soriano gets back and Pie stays on board though? I wonder is Pie will be our starting CF and if so will Sori be in RF or LF? With Murton playing RF yesterday, I'd expect Soriano to move back to LF. Also, he's played a year there, so he's comfortable in LF. I doubt they'd move him to RF. I'm hoping this is what happens.
