  1. Trade Cedeno and Eyre... and pick up Everett. Bingo...exactly what a buddy & I were talking about this morning... Sounds like the report on Everett wasn't accurate. Star-Tribune says he's still with the Twins. http://ww3.startribune.com/blogs/christensen/?location_refer=Sports:highlightModules:1
  2. I would have to think any Manny to the Dodgers deal would have to include LA parting with either Kemp or Ethier. Perhaps Kemp and Hu for Manny? I heard something about a Manny for Kemp rumor. Am I the only one that thinks the Dodgers would be idiots to do that deal? If the Dodgers are willing to part with Kemp for a rental, can we sell them on Edmonds? He's tearing it up and a heck of a lot cheaper than Manny. We'll even swap young SS. Edmonds and Cedeno for Kemp and Hu. They can have Eyre too. Manny wouldn't necessarily be a rental. He's got two options I believe, plus the Dodgers have the funds to give him pretty much whatever deal he would want. Now, that doesn't mean I'd give up one of the best budding stars in the game today for him, but he wouldn't be a rental. I could see Colletti doing the deal I brought up, though. I thought Manny's demand to waive his NTC (or 10/5 rights, whatever it is) was that his options not be picked up. Though the Dodgers have the funds, are they really going to pay Manny $20m next year? They already have JP, who can't play CF, and Jones, who can't play CF. And JP's there for 3 more years. I wasn't really serious in my offer. I just like the idea of selling high on Edmonds and really would love to get Kemp before the Dodgers hire some non-moron to run their team.
  3. A - who's the backup SS B - no anyway
  4. Realistically though, what the heck do we ask for in return? I'd think it would be major league players over prospects. For Cedeno and Eyre? Hu and a prospect would work, the Dodgers have plenty of good ones. They wouldn't want Marquis as well, would they? Also, I wonder if Boston would be involved in this as well in some way. As I just posted in another thread, if the Dodgers want Manny for Kemp (rumor), can we give them Edmonds for Kemp? Edmonds, Marquis, Cedeno, Eyre for Kemp, Hu... I don't know. I'm horrible at make-believe trades. But like TT, I think when you're dealing with Ned, the sky's the limit.

  6. nail meet head. This might be my favorite post ever.
  7. can you explain this one a bit? I don't know much about Hu other than what a quick look at br will show you. Looks like through 40+ ABs this year, he had about the same performance in the same league at the same age as Ronny did last year. But at 22, Ronny did the same thing in the same league, whereas, at 22, Hu was OPS'ing .660 in the Southern League.
  8. I would because it would allow us out from Soriano's contract and Manny will be a FA at the end of the year. We'd have our bat for the stretch and then sign Dunn in the offseason. :D Topping the worst OF defensively of Manny and Soriano....adding Dunn! Imagine that of, yikes! I wonder what type of money Dunn is going to get. Well, under my scenario Dunn would play LF, Fukudome in RF, and a yet to be determined player in CF. I know vance but the thought of it made me want to buy season tickets just for the entertainment value in the OF alone! Imagine how fun it would be to watch Dunn launch balls out of Wrigley that might land on the roof tops across the street. It would be nice. So you'd basically trade Dunn for Soriano? yes, because I think you could get Dunn for less dollars and less years than we committed to Soriano. I think while they are different types of hitters, they bring basically the same value as a hitter. Really? I think Dunn brings much more value as a hitter. Not sure how much is offset by the defense, but I don't think it's enough. And Soriano seems to be breaking down quickly.
  9. I don't even have to look to see who made you that offer. The People's Champ is my very educated guess. Sounds like he has quite the reputation. If you'll look (not too far) up, you'll see the "Merry Christmas" offer he made me. I'd say he has a reputation. It was the combination of that offer and this one that lead to my comment.
  10. Exactly. They should cut off KGJr's head.
  11. this is one of the weirdest threads ever.
  12. I would've had to, but I decided I didn't care enough. Firefox's right click - search google function makes it so much easier. Would be great if you could select any of your engines right there from the right click menu. Then I could go right to the definition w/o the extra click. I only looked it up b/c brinoch seemed so pissed that I was 85% sure he was speaking in tongues.
  13. Please tell me that I'm not the only one that had to google irascible.
  14. I'm GRCubsFan and I approve this message. Totally agreed.
  15. If you can beat Murton's value to a pulp, but still trade he, EPatt, and Gallagher for Harden and Gaudin, there's got to be somebody out there who can look past the Cubs bungling of Pie's "chance" in the majors and give some value for him. How much value we'll likely see this off-season.
  16. Hard to say. Do they win the WS w/o Beckett? They seem to be doing fine w/ a relative hole at SS right now. And w/o Beckett, who else is in their rotation (serious question, now that Bucholz is up, I'm not that familiar with the ML ready arms in their system)? Seems to me they need an elite pitcher more than they need more offense right now.
  17. Well that should be the very reason why you should learn sabermetics, not shun them. With sabermetrics you learn about sample size that explains that series. 'Shun' isn't even close to describing how I view sabr. I like the stats, but they are not absolute and only explain results, not necessarily predict. What do you use to predict player/team performance?
  18. Almost anyone could make the plays hit right to him and screw everything else up. He's a 2B. He might be able to play some 1B, but that's about the extent of it. Sure he could play other positions horribly for a few innings in a pinch but so can 90% of the guys in the league.
  19. it's possible that you don't like fontenot because you're completely negative about everything, but you also could've fallen into the trap that so many people on this board fell into - they see a little white guy who's been in the minors for a while and think "there's no way this guy can play" or "lolololol grit." his minor league line of .291/.366/.437/.803 suggests the ability to get on base and provide a little pop. his median pecota projection for this year was .278/.353/.424/.777 - not great for a regular starter, but plenty good for a spot starter who can play either middle infield position. he's been better than expected, but even at his expected level of production, he would've been a useful part of the team. and please everyone, let's start to understand that bat speed has just as much to do with power as size does. hanley ramirez is another good example of this. I like Fontenot as much as the next guy, but are we sure the bolded is true?
  20. I don't even have to look to see who made you that offer. The People's Champ is my very educated guess. Sounds like he has quite the reputation.
  21. Can you trust balls and strikes at this level? I was at a low-A game tonight and the ump was fricking horrible. I'm sure the Cubs have their own guys sitting behind home plate evaluating balls and strikes as well though.
  22. You don't click a button. You go to the commish's team page and click Send Email and tell him you protest.
  23. On the other hand, 4 is more than 3.
