  1. It's exteremly tough to find that kind of data at rookie league games - MiLB.com lists it in their box scores for AAA and there are announcers and many fans at games at other levels who could keep track of that but that doesn't happen in the AZL. That info would have to come from the coaching staff, probably into a local Chicago rag's story on Hill. Or maybe AZPhil at the Cub Reporter could provide it, had he taken note of it. AZ Phil does a pretty good job reporting on such things. How do you know that? i'm assuming he can count. Have there been previous instances in which AZPhil has provided pitch counts? Was Vance there to validate the accuracy of the pitch counts? It just seems like an odd thing to say someone is good at. Good point. Although, I don't trust Vance's advanced math skills either. Anyone know a good CPA in AZ that could pop in and count pitches in Rich's next start? If so, please have them submit a resume with no fewer than 3 references.
  2. Cripes Rich. If you're not going to bring the heat, stay home.
  3. I'm actually really happy Sean and Murton got traded. I like both, but neither was going to get a great chance here (at least this year). I'd guess both get good opportunities in Oakland and that's an organization I have no problem pulling for so I can still cheer for these guys. Mr. Gallagher, hope you still stop by every once in a while. At least now your son should get to start regularly in the majors for the rest of this season. Though I hope he doesn't win a World Series this year .
  4. I love love love Rich Harden. [Rich's arm - please stay attached. please stay attached. please stay attached]
  5. Why? Despite the claim, there's no personal attack is abuck's message (unless it was subsequently edited and I missed something good).
  6. sometimes i have felt that way after sex too. If you went 100 years without it, I don't think you'd have the same feeling. Oh please. The Cardinals hadn't won in my lifetime until 06. Everything that happened before me was nice and all, but really had no effect on me. So yes, I would feel the same way. You'll see (maybe), it's an awesome few nights of partying and high fiving and you'll start seeing tons of people donning the gear and give each other the grinning head nod and what not, but it wears off. I will say this though, the biggest difference is you feel a lot less anxiety as a fan when your team loses and doesn't make it. That has lasted for me and has made me a lot more healthy of a fan. Um, I was making a joke about how Truffle would feel about "bad" sex if he had waited 100 years between encounters (i.e., "bad" sex would feel like great sex if you waited 100 years for it). Apparently that wasn't clear. For the record, I wasn't one of the crazies that checked "as long as it takes."

  8. INDIVIDUAL STATS IS WHAT I"M LOOKING AT. How was that not clear by the #'s I posted and my comment "I'd much rather take the gamble on Molina, Ryan, Miles , Kennedy and Itzuris vs LH than Ankiel, Ludwick and Schumaker vs RH."? Well, you said OPS yields similar results, which is just not true. Glaus is 100 points of OPS better against LHP and it's even worse if you look at his career splits. Pujols has been murdering LHP to the tune of nearly a 1.400 OPS. But overall, comparing individual batting averages seems like a really terrible way to make this decision. YES, individual OPS yields similar results. Pujols crushes everything, so there's not a need to include his splits. Ankiel, Ludwick and Schumaker are considerably better vs. RH pitching. I'd rather take my chances on Molina, Glaus, Ryan, Itzturis, Barton and a weaker hitting Ludwick. Miles is a wash. vs LH vs RH Ankiel .639 .934 Ludwick .826 .994 Schumaker .400 .915 Glaus .902 .802 Miles .769 .734 Ryan .769 .539 Itzuris .731 .571 Barton .744 .682 Molina 1.047 .598 When the team splits are almost identical, I think it's weird to give an individual breakdown. The team, as a whole, puts up almost identical numbers against LHP and RHP. Why does it matter which guy is beating you? Oh - and excluding Pujols is convenient for your argument. Since we're limiting splits to this year, he's 400 points of OPS better against LHP. Why ignore that?
  9. Might? Let's not go overboard here.

  11. Baseball reference has the OPS as .775 v. 773, but yeah, I have no idea what nolanwood is looking at.
  12. Yeah, it looks like he's going on WL record rather than actual performance against LHP v RHP (OPS against or something). Seems like an odd way to make that decision. Is it better to "go by the numbers" if you're going to use the wrong numbers to make decisions?
  13. whining, pathetic, "white sox fans", babies, cry babies, emo, "woe is me" did abuck go off the deep end?
  14. I was actually thinking about that. Marquis would help balance out the salaries for 2009. Then the Royals get out of that deal. I do think it would take quite a bit to get Meche though. Probably a ML ready pitcher (Gallagher/Marshall), a ML ready position player (Pie/Cedeno?) and a young arm with a lot of upside, in addition to Marquis. Marshall or Gallagher, and Pie or Cedeno, and Marquis for Meche? Are you advocating that? That seems like a horrible trade for us.
  15. LOL team secretary vs. General Manager. Is it the same in principle? Yes. But don't confuse the guy who gets your family tickets with the guy who gets you paid. It's really sad actually... I feel bad for the guy. No kidding. If I push the mail guy to the floor b/c I'm late getting to the mail room and missed the last run, so I have to take the filing to the post office myself - no issue - it's just me being me. But if I tackle my boss, I should be fired. [i hope the sarcasm is obvious]
  16. Doesn't Cedeno still have his insane reverse splits? I'd play him all 4 games (or however long ARam is out). I still wish they'd put the real SS at SS when he's in the game and let Theriot play 2B. Yes, but there honestly isn't really anyone else to put at 2B tonight, and since I know Lou will put Cedeno there I just stuck him in that slot. Honestly, Fontenot or Patterson would probably be better options against a finesse left-hander with a good breaking ball like Zito than Cedeno, but hopefully Cedeno can lay off. But yes, Cedeno has an .811 OPS against right-handers and a .602 against left-handers so far this year. I put Fontenot in that slot for the other 2 days because I believe he is a better hitter than Cedeno is overall. He's been a tick better than Cedeno against right-handers this year, and he's been a lot better than Cedeno in both May and June so far. If they put Cedeno at SS and Theriot at 2nd, I might feel a little differently since that upgrades the defense aspect of Cedeno. But if I'm choosing between one of Cedeno or Fontenot at 2nd, I think Fontenot has to be the guy right now, and I'm curious to why you would put Cedeno out there instead. b/c I'd put him at SS Ok, but that option seems to be clearly out the window. Would you still play Cedeno at 2nd until Aramis comes back? Just asking since your first post seems to indicate that you know that they won't put him at SS, but that you want him to play anyway. Well, I didn't mean to imply that, though I can see how it's read that way. I meant I'd play him at SS as long as ARam is out and play Theriot at 2B. If they're both on the field, there's no reason not to play Cedeno at SS. And if you're going to put 3 of DeRosa, Cedeno, Theriot, and Fontenot on the field, I think I'd take the first 3. Although, with DeRosa's struggles in June, I might put Cedeno at 3B and Fontenot at 2B (again, not really going to happen). I think I'd still play Cedeno even at 2B. I don't think the difference between he and Fontenot is that great, though I think Fontenot is a good guy to have on the bench. And I think Cedeno has enough upside, that he needs to be getting more ABs.

  19. Absolutely. I don't drink much pop anymore, but Coca-cola > Pepsi. It's weird because now when I do drink pop it's usually diet, and I prefer Diet Pepsi over Diet Coke. I haven't drank diet in a long time, but I'm totally with you on both halves of this. Diet Coke might be the single worst mass-produced beverage there is. My college roommate would drink Diet Coke warm. I don't mean he let it sit out after opening, I mean he would keep it in the pantry and drink it without it ever being in the fridge or on ice. That's disgusting.
  20. We'll do it if you'll then trade us Sheets for Marquis straight up and pay all of Marquis' salary. :D We still lose in that deal.
  21. Ideally? Z CC Lilly Dempster Hill
  22. I think the young starters, Wood, Prior, Clement, Z, could really learn a lot from a cagey vet. [/denial]
  23. Exactly how do you mean, sir?
  24. Lou should have realized this and moved him to 2B or taken him out. Again - the majors is not the place to learn a new defensive position.
  25. They made EPatt an OF, essentially at the ML level, which is stupid. Especially when you have a 1-legged CF on the other side of him. I don't know where Lou gets the idea that players can learn to play the OF at the ML level when they've been IF their whole careers. My issue is - if you throw an IF into LF and they suck right away, the person you should be mad at is yourself b/c that's a stupid idea. If EPatt is brutal at 2B like everyone claims (I've never seen him play there nor seen his stats from their), teach him to play the OF in the minors over a significant period of time. If you bring him up and shove him in LF b/c you think you need speed at the top of the order and he's horrid on defense and the entire Sox team takes extra bases on him - it's your own fault.
