  1. It cracks me up to hear people talking about wanting to move DeRosa to RF so that we can get a guy that might put up an .800 OPS more ABs. We had DeRosa and a guy putting up an .800 OPS for 2 years and people couldn't wait to get rid of him.
  2. A little reading will show you that no one has talked about the merits of Dunn going to the D-Backs for about 11 pages. I hadn't noticed that, what with the dozens of posts I've made in this thread. But the topic is clearly Adam Dunn. So, shockingly, you come along and complain about people discussing Adam Dunn.
  3. did you just ignore jersey's post? It's not about whether Ricky had a spot in the rotation, it's about wasting his value on JP.
  4. I love when people post in a thread simply to complain that others are discussing/arguing the clearly-marked topic of that thread.
  5. Sounds like Dempster says he wants to be back. I can't see Jim not signing him, since he's a huge feather in Jim's cap right now (solid closer for a few years and great SP this year). I have no idea if they'll try to trade Marquis or not. I sure hope so with the likes of Marshall, Hill, and Gaudin available for the 5th spot. As for Shark, I too hope he's back in Iowa to start the year. I'd rather not have him in the bullpen for a full year next year.
  6. I give, uncle, whatever. my head hurts.
  7. We've gone from your moving target definition to Hall of Fame voters? You realize this board is full of people who can't fathom how the voters haven't elected Ron Santo (among others), right? And you think sharing an opinion with these voters is going to garner you support here?
  8. b/c he's so thrilled with his 2nd WS title that he doesn't mind being shipped out so the team can play tex. If people are going to suggest that tex play the OF, I can't imagine my suggestion of trading Lee is the most far-fetched post in this thread. If we're bound by reality, tex's name doesn't come up.
  9. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHC/attend.shtml The Cubs were 5th in the NL in attendance in 2006, and fell just short of the attendance record to that point. (A new record was set in 2007) you know as well as i do that a number or those tickets were sold well in advance. by september of that year, the real attendance wasn't exceeding 30,000, even if the paid attendance was above that mark. But even approx. 30K people is better than a large portion of team draw on average this year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance There's no question that more fans go to Wrigley every year than most other teams. But that doesn't make Truffle's overall point wrong. You'd have to compare fans of a team that's winning to fans of that same team when it's losing. If there's a team that fills its stadium or even maintains an even attendance level, whether the team is winning or losing, that would disprove his point (to some extent).
  10. The guy is so incredibly smarmy... you can just tell he thinks he's the funniest man alive. I don't recall your views on him (you may not have posted them), but I find this sentiment ironic considering Keith Olbermann, who might be the most egotistical prick in the entire universe, is getting a lot of praise in here. I can't watch his Countdown show for more than 50 seconds before finding something to get pissed about. Keith and Dan both seem to be pretty egotistical now. I didn't get that sense 10-15 years ago (whenever they started doing SC). They came across then as far more egotistical than Kenny Mayne ever has. I can't stand either of them now, but they certainly didn't seem that bad then. Of course, I don't really have an issue with Kenny Mayne as an egomaniac.

  12. not sure that balances it out it does in my mind are you assuming that there's no other combination of players that would have netted us Harden? If so, I agree. But I don't think that's probably true. It's also hard to compare a guy traded away 3 years ago for a guy acquired via trade last month.
  13. not sure that balances it out
  14. I can't believe how many people here still like Jon Stewart... He started off funny, but he's just become spiteful and hate-filled. I think he excels in interviews, especially with people whose views he doesn't share. He's still snarky with them, but the ones who know what they're getting into and are prepared for it make for good tv.
  15. I can't imagine he's terribly happy about it. Of course, he's probably disappointed in his performance so far, if he has any sense of pride. It does strike me as odd that Lou would call guys out in the media when we're up 5 on the Brewers in late August. Not that I want him to take it easy, but I would prefer he speak directly to Kosuke and work with him (or have Perry do it) to figure out what's going on and make the adjustment. Calling the new guy out in the media when the team has the best record in the NL seems to create more problems than it fixes.
  16. No one is saying Lou is blaming Fukudome for the entire lack of offense. But we lost by 1 and he clearly called out Fukudome's AB for not picking up the RBI with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs. It's not a stretch to say he's putting a hefty amount of blame for the loss on Fukudome. I think that it is quite a stretch unless there's more context than the snippet provided in the first post. You don't know what question he's responding to, or if he talked about other failures before or after that quote. I don't know what your angle is on this, but I can't believe you don't see a connection between the two. Lou's reasons are based on months of struggles from Fukudome and not just one AB, but that doesn't change the connection he made in that comment.

  18. It's amazing that the word "logic" is used when posters quote statistics, but when the statistics are used against them it's "idiotic". Using Kyle's statistics in a 600 AB season, Gwynn would make contact 528 times resulting in 185 hits. Dunn would make contact 342 times resulting in 106 hits. I stand by my original point that Dunn can be described as a great slugger, but should not be described as a great hitter. So Gwynn was a great singles hitter. I'm not sure that makes him a great hitter, overall (or more valuable than other types of hitters).
  19. That's stupid (not you, Lou's comment). 1 and 3 w/ 0 out, I'd much rather have a decent fly ball than a grounder. Hit it to the pitcher or either corner and you have 1 and 3 with 1 out (or maybe the runner at 3rd gets thrown out a home). Maybe if you hit it up the middle you get a run, but you clear the bases with the DP. Runner on 3rd with < 2 out in a 1-run game, everyone's trying to hit it in the air. As Mojo said, the whole offense sucked in that game. Fukudome's struggling, but he's hardly alone in the blame for that one. Soto's GIDP was worse, imo.
  20. I can't believe how many people here still like Jon Stewart... He started off funny, but he's just become spiteful and hate-filled. Hey - I'm spiteful and hate-filled.
  21. A perfect example of trying to use statistics to make a point that is ridiculous. Most of Dunn's non-contact were Ks. You're assuming that Gwynn swung at bad pitches ("sacrifice the chance for a BB") to get more singles and never tried to get extra base hits. I suppose the 40 point difference in BABIP means nothing especially since Gwynn puts 30% more balls into play. So you're suggesting that Gwynn swung at a bunch of meatballs, but had so little power that he rarely got more than singles? I think Kyle's point made Gwynn sound better.
  22. porn makes consistent contact with the ball and a decent amount of time the contact results in hits? that. and you know it when you see it.
