  1. O-Line coaches on college teams? I don't see that as very strange. I know all of Tennessee's coaches (and grad assistants) quite well. I figured that was the norm. ::shrug:: At schools like Tenn, Auburn, and the real UT (just kidding Dew) I think it's more the norm. But also these coaches make more than a lot of OC's and DC's. And now a days they are the major players in recruiting. I don't know that it's the norm. It's not uncommon for fans to know the coaches of their cfb team, but there are probably a great deal of fans who don't know anyone outside the HC and maybe the coordinators.
  2. Good to see that Michigan is ripping their own alumni in the press. Wow. Talk about taken completely out of context. I watched the Hoke introduction today when Brandon said all this, and it had nothing to do with Harbaugh or Miles. It was just a general statement made about the interview process he went through. Was that a Free Press article? Wouldn't surprise me in the least. who was he talking about, if not JH or Miles? He wasn't talking about anyone in particular. He said he was in 5 cities in 6 days, interviewed a bunch of people who he wouldn't specify, and didn't mention JH or Miles by name at all. He was very adamant about not getting into any particulars about the coaching search. It was an off-hand comment. off-hand? ok. still seems pretty obvious he was talking about one of those 2, or both.

  4. Good to see that Michigan is ripping their own alumni in the press. Brandon needs to just STFU. Is he really responding to fan email? come the [expletive] on.
  5. is he really a Michigan Man? he's not an alum. being an assistant there is enough? I guess if a Buckeye alum/assistant can become the standard by which all Michigan Men are measured, Hoke can be allowed into the club. I saw espn compared him to Bo. Hopefully, Hoke's UM career is identical in length and number of national titles. oh, and I heard a rumor that Denard is transferring (which everyone assumed) and QBForce flunked out. Who will Gardner's backup be?
  6. that sounds great. but it's hard to sign a new coach to a contract until the current coach is fired. and if the target coach is in a bowl game and wants to coach that bowl, there isn't much you can do. this could have been handled much better, i think. but it's not as simple as "don't fire richrod until you know you have harbaugh." that's not really possible. It's actually very possible, as most organizations make sure they have their ducks in a line before they make a move, or at least fire their guy early enough to be in on the bigger pool of candidates. The combination of waiting so long and still not knowing they could get their guy reflects very poorly on their management skills. certainly michigan should have fired richrod earlier. that might have been the biggest mistake of all. but i don't think you can know for certain that you have the next guy locked up until he actually signs the contract. it's happened too many times in my memory and i'm positive there are many, many more that i (or we) never knew about.

  8. I'd guess that number is closer to 30-40, but a lot are pulled when spots fill. I'm under the assumption that all the top programs are in the 30-40 range. I think the hit rate on scholarships for even the best places has to be 60-75%, right? Probably closer to 50%. If you only offered 20-25 every year, you'd consistently have 5-10 spots empty on your roster.
  9. Just out of curiousity how many offers did Auburn hand out this year? i don't think having more offers out than spots open is unusual. Its not at all. I just find it interesting when teams hand out 100+ offers a year. Seems like this sort of thing would happen more often. Or maybe it does and we just don't see it. Most kids are probably more careful about announcing for teams that won't accept. Maybe he was hoping that the public announcement would guilt auburn into accepting him. Do they really make 100 offers a year?
  10. sorry perv http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2011/01/lsu_football_coach_les_miles_r_2.html

  12. no they won't - they say they will now, but they'll demand Miles be fired if he gets Carr results for 3-4 years. people wanted Carr gone b/c he couldn't get it done, so they took a shot on a guy that would completely change the system. I recall most UM fans I know being pretty pumped about landing RichRod, but saying openly that it would take some time to implement his system. It doesn't go well, so they fire him and now want Carr results? Well, of course 8-9 win seasons are better than 3-7 win seasons, but it's not like UM fans are going to be happy in 2 years if the next coach is winning 8-9 games but losing to OSU and not making a BCS bowl.
  13. so what was their gripe against that video assistant? collateral damage
  14. How does Les Miles get so lucky? Use your 1 challenge on a play in the first half that, even if upheld, would result in 1st and goal from inside the 1 and was fairly clearly not a TD. But 15 minutes later, the booth officials tell the field officials that they actually decided to review it before Miles used his challenge. How long before LSU treats him like PSU treats Joe Pa and just takes away his headset on game days?
  15. USC getting hammered, UM in coaching flux, Stanford lost its coach. MSU's coach had a heart attack and Urban Meyer had to walk away due to health problems. In 2010, ND settles all family business.
  16. how has this not been posted? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5999744
  17. His alleged sexual harassment of women makes Brett Favre look like a hero. let's clear that up. but wasn't it a 1-time issue with Tirico? Or was it just the 1 incident that got all the attention? let he among us who hasn't accidentally reached his hand between a beautiful female stranger's thighs after repeatedly being asked to stop cast the first stone.
  18. Matt Millen IMO oh god in heaven make this happen
  19. Exactly. [expletive] every stupid Michigan fan who keeps spouting off about the next coach needing to be a Michigan Man. It's the reason why the fan base was divided the moment Rich Rod stepped on campus 3 years ago. Are most of these Michigan Man blowhards townies, or is the alumni caught up in this obsession as well? I hear it everywhere on this side of the state, from alumni, wal-mart wolverines, and everyone else.

  21. you know who wasn't a Michigan Man? Bo Schembechler
  22. the whole team meeting scheduled then no decision and team meeting rescheduled after reports of Harbaugh getting a fat offer from Stanford and the 49ers sure makes it sound like UM thought they had Harbaugh and then didn't. So instead of being coachless, they're holding out another 24 hours to lock up Harbaugh or find someone else. I can't believe RichRod will still be the coach on NSD after all this. It's really weird watching this from the sidelines. I don't usually pay that much attention to coaching searches that aren't for my teams. I wouldn't say I'm taking pleasure in it, it's not really that funny. it's just such a strange dance when it's not your team/life seemingly hanging in the balance.
  23. What type of timetable are you putting on getting Texas back to a BCS level program? 2012 or 2013 at the latest. I am hoping for 8 wins next season, and competing for a BCS spot the year after. #2 recruiting class last year, currently #1 this year and the level of HS talent for the next recruiting class just in the state of Texas is great (Jonathan Grey and Mario Edwards will both be top 10 nationally). Has recruiting been the problem? Their current junior class was weak by Texas standards, but the other 3 (senior, soph, freshman) were #5, 5, 3. They might be BCS contenders in 2012, but it's not as if they've had to climb out of some big recruiting hole, have they?
  24. I think the population density hurts in football as much as it helps in basketball. yeah - ever tried to play football on asphalt? I was amazed when I went to ND. Almost all the NYC/NE kids there, even in grad programs, were athletically talented at something, but it was often swimming, tennis, hoops, etc. Most couldn't even throw a football, let alone actually run and catch at the same time.
