Vlad OPS'd under .800 outside Texas last year. Are the Os really better off now than they were 2 days ago? Seems possible that Pie in LF with Scott at DH and $8m is worth more than Vlad at this point. -
Those poll results are pretty worthless, as far as "popularity" goes, once you get beyond the top 4-5 sports. Half the people that named football or baseball #1 might have put any number of those other sports 2nd on their list if they had been asked. That would be more informative for those less popular sports than this poll.

Someone at another board created and posted this cool little chart. Ideal is top right corner - sign a great class (disclaimer: uses Rivals rankings) and have the majority of the kids actually enroll. The worst is bottom left - your class ain't that good and you oversign or otherwise can't get them all to campus (i.e., grades, legal troubles, kids that fall off balconies). http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5095/5419869722_d23666620b.jpg

I heard that Kyle Rudolph was told in his nfl draft grade that he'd be the #1 TE in the draft, which is why he skipped his last season. Wish we could have had more than 2.4 years of him.

yeah - it's best player at each position over the next 9 years. Doesn't mean you have to still be playing that position (or at all) in 2020. But when looking back, who will people think were the best player over the 2010s. It's actually a decent read if you like Neyer (link). In an earlier post, he also mocks his complete failure at this exact exercise before the 2000s. Mauer is his choice, with McCann, Posey, Wieters and "Suzuki or one of the prospects" rounding out the top 5. He admitted in the comments that he sort of forgot about Santana, but doesn't think anyone can really challenge Mauer since he'll be so good over the next several years that none of the prospects will catch him. Personally, I think McCann could if he stays healthy but the Twins have been careful with Mauer, so maybe he'll catch long enough to be the best of the decade.

agreed. those that were truly awesome and suspected or discovered to be PED users should be strung up. but the fairly quiet guy that was really good (not great, imo) for a long time and admitted to using was basically ignored. Then again, Clemens will probably have him killed during his perjury trial, so maybe he'll get into the HOF posthumously. -
in predicting the best catchers for the rest of this decade, he didn't mention Soto among his top 5 (or even honorable mention). so i hate him.

Who is this? Jalen Brown. He was snowed in and actually took a picture of his signed LOI and e-mailed it to Notre Dame to complete the process. Ok, never have seen him listed as the #1 CB in Texas. yeah that "1" means "one" not "#1" which would mean "number 1."

waiting on 1 CB in Texas. But all but 1 of the expected LOI are in, including all the biggies. phew. Niklas fax is in too. Love taking CA recruits from Southern Cal.

apparently ND's compliance officer couldn't make it out of her driveway today, so they had to send an escort to get her to campus to approve the LOI. but the faxes are working.

sounds like there's a chance that BK could pull Niklas out of U$C's grasp, but it'll be a long shot. Hoping for a very uneventful NSD and that ND has enough power to run the fax machines.

if we just hold all 23 recruits, I'll be ecstatic. If we steal Niklas from USC or someone like that, all the better. But I'd much prefer no ND recruiting "news" between now and Wednesday. So much for that. Bennett Okotcha switches from ND to Oklahoma. i knew that was a jinx. i hate to lose dbs, but there are much more crucial pieces to this class.

It's interesting to see names like this pop up again a few years later. I remembered being totally pissed when he picked Southern Cal over ND a couple years ago when we were desperate for safeties (still are). Then he goes JUCO and ends up at TN. I know this has been happening forever, but I've only been following recruiting closely for 10 years or so and it still cracks me up.

Locker should practice throwing the ball 80 yards while sitting on his ass. He can parlay that into $50m.

Where are you seeing 5? Rivals has them with 2. Are you just combining all services to get that number? Either way, that is a heckuva class. Per Scout they have 4 (Tuitt, Williams, Lynch, Koyack). On Rivals, only Tuitt and Williams are 5-stars, though Lynch should be. very strong class and filled positions of great need with real talent (D-line and CB in particular).
