  1. Also in his favor is that I'm of a mind he was pitching hurt in some way in the last 1/3 to 1/2 of his innings last season and that's at least a contributor to why he was so much worse than usual during that timeframe.
  2. I don't think you can if you're serious about making a playoff run this season. He's light years better defensively than anyone else they have to play at 3B and the offense isn't going to be what it's been since the break, but I don't think a .750+ OPS the rest of the way is out of the question.
  3. This is where I am. The likelihood you get someone markedly better, especially when you factor in the seeming budget restraints from ownership, seem pretty small and the chances of ending up with someone markedly worse are much higher. I'm no Jed sycophant, but I think he's done a respectable job since taking over and the arrow is pointing up, so I'm absolutely fine with this.
  4. I'd bet on on 2 starters, pushing Horton, Brown, and Rea to the pen (rotation is Boyd, Shota, Taillon, 2 new guys) and one RH hitting utility player that can spell the OF and 1B. That gives you a lot more velocity in the pen once Horton and Brown are there and gives you some playoff options for length as well.
  5. He's already up to 3 innings in rehab starts so this is way off base.
  6. Let's slow down there a little bit. He's been solid for the Cubs, no doubt, but the way he's stranded runners probably isn't sustainable so he's due for some regression there. We also haven't seen how he comes back from the myriad injuries he's had since the middle of last season, so he's no guarantee from that standpoint either.
  7. The biggest difference for me is the home runs. Assad is at 1.1/9 and Rea at 1.7/9 for their careers and that matters a decent amount.
  8. That ball flattened out after it hit the dirt. I can't really blame him for not picking it.
  9. Steele isn't going to be a rotation fixture until probably July, so I wouldn't bake him into your plans. And that's if he comes back full strength.
  10. He's hit 9 balls this year that would have been homers at Yankee Stadium and were outs, doubles, or triples. That's always a factor when the Yankees go get a lefty hitter.
  11. I think Ryan is the most realistic target that would get that automatic grade from me. I could probably be talked into Clase doing the trick as well.
  12. I don't think you mortgage the future for a consideration like that (Horton innings limit). I also don't think that offer gets it done. As much control as Gore has left and with an interim GM being in charge, someone is going to have to absolutely overpay in a very obvious manner to pry him away. I'd say it's less than a 5% chance he's moved.
  13. Herring seems like he's got some potential. 9K/9 in high A. Feels like a decent pull for McMahon.
  14. I like Tauchman but he's redundant on this team. They need a RH hitter who can play the OF to spell PCA (and maybe Happ sometimes).
  15. To be expected (the offensive struggles at this point) when installing a new offense and working out the kinks. Obviously not on remotely the same scale, but we installed a new offense my senior year for a summer basketball camp right before it started. I think we scored like 12 points or something ridiculous like that in the first game we played (20 minute running clock for each half, so quick games but that was still awful) and got killed. We played the same team 2 days later and beat them while scoring over 40 because we were all more comfortable with what we were doing after repetition at full speed. It's going to take some time for everyone to be in rhythm.
  16. The fact that he refuses to change an opinion on anybody once he's made an initial evaluation is sure something.
  17. Man, Keith Law hates Caissie. 2 Cubs in his top 60. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6502957/2025/07/24/mlb-top-prospects-2025-kevin-mcgonigle/
  18. I think 2nd half 2024 Assad was injured and nobody knew it until later.
  19. The fact that almost no deals have been made tells me that that wasn't an option. And JFC, the 9 hitter for hist first career homer? Come on.
  20. I had a feeling that he and Shaw would struggle with Lugo today. Just too many different looks for their young eyes to adjust to.
  21. He grew up on Roosevelt Island in NYC and has probably lived in apartments/condos for his entire adult life so that tracks.
  22. 6 inches may have done it (that's what she said!).
  23. This is an objectively bad take. One run is unearned because of the error and the pitch Perez hit out was both not even a strike and the softest HR hit at Wrigley this year. Baseball is just gonna baseball sometimes.
  24. I can't even get mad at that homer by Perez. Pitch was in a very good location and wasn't even a strike. Also the softest homer by EV hit at Wrigley this year.
