  1. You realize how different those motions are biomechanically right? And how you almost never hear about a softball pitcher with an arm injury?
  2. There wasn't a guy, it's saying he had the highest % since it's been recorded, which started in 2000.
  3. There's a built in recovery period in running too. Most of the people starting out are only running 4 days a week and only one of them is a longer run. These guys are throwing on the side as well, so it's a pretty analogous comparison.
  4. Sure, but if you limit him to 2-3 innings for like 8 more starts over the course of the season, you've significantly reduced the stress on his arm and you're less likely to see an issue if you let him go 5 innings in a max of 3-4 postseason starts.
  5. There's a ton of data in other sports (distance running for example) that shows quick increases in workload cause injuries. So if you're going to train for a marathon, going from zero miles a week to 40 miles a week in 18 weeks is likely to cause an injury because your muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints aren't accustomed to the load being put on them. Some of that can be minimized by running slower paces, but it doesn't eliminate the risk. I think you get into a more nebulous place when you're talking about pitchers because these aren't guys off the street who've never done this before, but in a case like this, you're asking someone to go run a marathon at their 10K pace (in terms of velocity thrown and spin put on the ball) so it stands to reason that backing off that breakneck pace like the White Sox did with Crochette last year makes a ton of sense.
  6. I said this in the minor league forum, but I wonder if they start using him as an opener to keep him on the every 5 days routine and let him go 2-3 innings, then have Assad come in for the bulk of the innings after that. Keeps him fresh, minimizes his innings and would likely prevent an issue with overusing the pen.
  7. I wonder if they'll do something like use him as an opener and give him like 2-3 innings per start to keep him on the every 5 day routine and have Assad get the rest of the bulk for that game.
  8. I was watching the Braves Brewers game last night and the insanity of their hot streak is just mind blowing. The last 41 games they're 32-9 and have picked up 8 games on the Cubs, meaning the Cubs went 24-17. The Cubs have played at nearly a 95 win pace over their last 41 games and LOST 8 games in the standings. I can't be too upset about it at this point and just trust that regression to the mean happens for them too.
  9. I think it's probably about 75% pitch count and 25% 3rd time through penalty at this point when you consider how many bats he's starting to miss.
  10. That was more about the futility of the Reds offense as well today.
  11. That's a big enough platoon advantage in the Cubs favor by bringing in the lefty I don't have an issue with it when he was getting pulled after this inning regardless.
  12. Cade has thrown less pitches than he has through 5 innings.
  13. Yeah, let's put the guy with the .654 OPS against lefties in a spot where he'll get the most ABs against the lefty starter the Reds are putting out there tonight. Terrific plan. 🙄
  14. Hollywood Smothers not being a corner and Hannes Hammer not being a Chuck Cecil style safety is moderately disappointing.
  15. The good news: he's underperforming his FIP by over 5 runs. The bad news: his FIP is over 7.
  16. I would much rather be going through the cold streak now than at the end of September. We all know these guys are better than they've been playing for the last several weeks and regression to the mean works both ways. This team will win more than they lose the rest of the way and just based on how streakiness works, there's a decent chance they're going well again when the playoffs roll around.
  17. I'm having an issue with the Minor League forum still showing as unread even after I click into all of the threads with new posts. It doesn't clear unless I go in and click the "Mark Forum Read" button. It's happened multiple times today, only on that forum, and I've never had that issue before.
  18. Last night I told a buddy they're either winning the world series or are going to implode the first week of September and I don't really see any in between. Either the playing way above their heads will continue or injuries and reality will catch up to them.
  19. He pitched 66 inning at Arkansas in 2022, missed 2023 with TJS, 59 last year and is at 62 this year. It's load management and just because we haven't seen it done this way before doesn't mean it's wrong. I'd suspect he's been throwing on the side to work on specific things in a controlled environment (i.e. short bursts of pitches to not stress his arm too much) and we'll see him throw some more game innings before the end of the year to get the IP count up a little more and allow him to be a more full time pitcher next year.
  20. That is strange. It's still not on MLB either.
  21. Don't hold your breath just based on pitching matchups.
