  1. Yeah. You don't know the guy, it's not a nickname used by anyone that's familiar with him or the team, and it feels disrespectful.
  2. Ever notice you're the only one who calls him that?
  3. Castro is also much better hitting as a lefty so I don't have a big issue with it as bad as PCA has been lately.
  4. More likely is that getting out of Des Moines was a bitch.
  5. They'd have to do that Monday for it to really make a difference in rest for anyone and unless you get like 6 innings out of Jamo in game one, that seems like a risky play that could decimate your pen for the rest of the series if it doesn't go well.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if you see Caissie supplant Seiya at DH a decent amount against RHP. He was borderline bad against them before this slump and he's been absolutely wretched against them during it. I don't expect magic, but I like the possibility of him running into a couple HRs over the next few weeks. He's going to swing and miss but based on the minor league data, he makes decent swing decisions so hopefully he gets some fastballs to test him early and does damage.
  7. The point is that starting pitching hasn't been the issue since the break. I won't argue I'd like to have seen another arm.
  8. Yeah, he's a keep him on the MLB roster or lose him guy. I think you'll maybe see some additional days off for Tucker, Happ and PCA with Castro on the roster and Amaya/Kelly available to DH now.
  9. I covered that in my next response. Probably Gleyber Torres honestly.
  10. Again, bonus pool money is a key factor here. Pena was their 3rd highest international bonus in 2024 and got $900K, Pratt was a 5th round pick they were able to overslot (by triple) because of their oversized bonus pool. All those little things matter and they've hit on a couple international lottery tickets, where I will say the Cubs have largely failed on for a long time now.
  11. I'm not going to be worried about Caleb until game 5 or 6 this year. If he's not looking like he's figuring it out by then, panic may start to set in, but when you considering he's learning an entirely new offense (again) under a coach who's demanding and runs a relatively complex system, I think you have to be pretty patient to start the season.
  12. How many extra picks do them and the Cardinals get that the Cubs never even have a chance at (the answer is 5 picks in the top 34 since 2017)? That extra bonus pool adds so much flexibility in how a team runs their draft. But also, they have a total of 2 first round/competitive balance picks on their roster that have been drafted since 2015.
  13. I’m going to the game tonight and it says it’s delayed. Any indication of a start time at this point? I’m about a 5 minute walk from the park right now and don’t want to walk over until I have a better idea of first pitch.
  14. To further make your point, he's given up a total of 20 runs in those losses and 9 of them were in 2 starts.
  15. The Cards were playing games with rest for their starters and he's been up and down a bunch this year before the dumped Fedde. They were trying to keep their rotation on 5 days rest, so frequently when they had a stretch with no days off, he'd come up and take a start to give the rest of the rotation an extra day.
  16. Plot twist: he's a rookie so we're screwed anyway.
  17. It's really not. The starters will get the bulk of the work in a somewhat controlled environment in the joint practice Friday and not playing in the game after going through one of those has kind of become the norm these days.
  18. The throwing curves part I'll agree with, Any breaking pitch is going to stress an arm that's not fully developed more than it should be stressed. However, this weight lifting is bad and guys aren't stretched out line of thinking is absolute nonsense. Do you not see Keith Law bitching every single college baseball season about how guys get stressed when it comes to the College World Series? College pitchers throw plenty. The training regimens followed by pitchers are so well designed and catered to each individual that they're light years better than anything guys were doing 30-40-50 years ago.
  19. You realize how different those motions are biomechanically right? And how you almost never hear about a softball pitcher with an arm injury?
