I think he was saying that out of frustration as he went 3 balls on the last guy after having already walked a couple (plus the HR). Yeah, he's definitely struggling to find the zone right now. 45-25 pitches-strikes thru 2. Not exactly ideal with the less than great offense and a bad bullpen.

    What if one is saying both? I've tried to make it abundantly clear that I don't think Castro hitting third is somehow critically damaging his approach or setting him up for failure in the long run; my reasons for not wanting him hitting third rest primarily in that I don't think he profiles ideally as a #3 hitter and the Cubs are, despite how good he is, selling themselves short if they want to try and shoehorn him in to that role. My concerns about how the traditional expectations of a #3 hitter might be playing to the more detrimental aspects of his approach at the plate are effectively just window dressing; they're not the main reasons I don't want him hitting there, but they are a reason down the spectrum. Now, I'm not saying this is a sure thing; I could easily be completely wrong and hitting #3 has absolutely nothing with some of the things we're seeing so far this year. Ultimately it's just another reason for me to toss on the heap of reasons why I'd rather see him hitting #2 or even leading off. Yes, this. He's trying to be a run producer instead of maximizing the possibility of getting on base. I don't think it's hurting his development at all, just repressing some of his OBP potential for the moment because he's pressing a bit.

    Yes, this I can agree with you on. Much of anything else, not so much. Damn even my baseball stuff? Things I choose to edit out for no reason? You have a way of writing that makes my head hurt. The minor league stuff is okay when it's not completely out of left field. N&G tormenting you doesn't help either, but you have to learn to not poke a bear with a stick at some point.

    I'm glad you had the patience and took the time to wade through that monstrosity. I would have had a stroke attempting to decipher and refute that amount of absolute nonsense. There may have been a heroin in the forehead moment in there as well.

    Awesome that the player gets suspended for throwing the helmet and the ump gets no consequence for being completely terrible at his job. There was just a blurb on SportsCenter about this where they said that umpires and executives are upset that Lawrie didn't get more than 4 games. Is there any recourse for the player or the union against the ump that caused the whole situation by being awful at his job?

    Because bullpen performance has such a huge year to year variance in many cases and in his example, the pen is the issue. A 20 loss-variance? That's probably the extreme, but considering the pen has already given away 4-5 games in the first month and a half of the season, not completely out of the realm of possibilities.

    Because a 100-loss team is probably significantly worse than an 80-loss team and would require more money/trades/work to improve. In some cases, yes. But one of the biggest problems this team has is an absolutely awful bullpen, which is something that can be turned around pretty quickly. Assuming Garza and Shark are still here and performing well, Maholm and/or Wood aren't awful, you get Rizzo up and add another piece or two in the off season and you're getting close to or actually contending.

    I was unfortunately driving home from Memphis during the game yesterday and finally got to watch his final appearance. I got a little choked up. Definitely my favorite Cubs player of "my" generation. He's a year younger than me and it just completely sucks that his body couldn't hold up to let all the talent show. That 20K game is easily the most unbelievable performance I've ever seen. The break on that curve was just cartoonish.

    And honestly, as many good surprises as there have been, there have been just as many disappointments. Soto, Barney, and Volstad all being much worse than expected, Marmol forgetting what the strike zone looks like, Kerry not being very good, and Soriano not bouncing back as hoped. Far from everything has gone right and I'm really not all that disappointed in how the season has gone thus far.

    So, the amazing viewpoint I had from the 2ND FREAKING ROW!!!!! had me absolutely amazed at how fast Campana is. He's fast on TV, but holy isht is he fast in person. That routine ground ball to 2nd in the 1st inning really looked like he was safe he got down the line so fast. Great game other than the bed crapping inning, which I fortunately missed most of while in the Build-a-Bear shop. :roll:
