  1. Who is this dude? If that's real, best baseball name ever, hands down!
  2. So does a guy count as on their minor league reserve list as soon as he's traded? If you could add him from another team's minor league list, you could do it. But I suppose that's probably not an option.
  3. Who the hell is even a candidate for the Illinois job right now? Have any names been mentioned?
  4. Good to see the B1G put the challenge away for the 3rd straight year. The Wisky-UNC game should be interesting. Man, Wisky looks like a worse bunch of chuckers than they were last year so far, but Taylor is gonna be a beast in conference play.
  5. And you want to build a $1.2 billion stadium in the suburbs with a retractable roof to combat the handful of people that don't show up to a couple bad weather games? It's not going to happen, nor should it happen, so leave it be. Well, it would also be convenient when we're in the World Series every year too.
  6. live stream?
  7. I've thought that Illinois had the dumbest set of basketball players on the planet for the last couple of years. After watching this game, I'm now convinced that it has to be a result of some of the worst coaching ever done. It's so frustrating to watch all this talent go completely to waste. And are they seriously playing basketball in a freaking ballroom? WTF?
  8. Same effing Illini. Can't do crap down the stretch, especially in the half court. Just so stagnant on offense and no playmakers.
  9. I'm sure it's improved due the fact that he's not the #3 guy anymore and has more of a role in practice. Outside of this week, he hasn't had more of a role. In fact, I heard today that the starting QB has a one on one meeting with Martz and the other QBs have to meet with Day or whatever the QB coach's name is. The combination of those 2 things has me concerned ab out how much he may have been able to develop in the last year or so.
  10. Can't be doing much at this point with 0 points and 2 fouls at the half. I'll watch more closely in the 2nd.
  11. I want to punch this announcer in the junk for his tres puntos and y uno crap in the Illinois game. So annoying. Also, we don't look very good defensively right now. And a good defensive team won't let us get any shots off. I'm not expecting much out of the season at this point.
  12. Actually it is different isn't it? They use a smaller ball and that will most likely affect the amount of movement they can get on a larger American baseball won't it? Not as much of an issue for a bigger guy like Darvish, but still something to consider. Has he been observed pitching with the larger baseball?
  13. I saw that as well, this would be particularly effective when a draft class is weak at the top. Just don't sign the top pick, use that money to get guys that might slip due to signability and get another first rounder next year when the draft class is possibly stronger. Since we've all come up with this scenario already, I wonder if there isn't some language in there that reduces your "pool" if you don't sign a pick/several picks.
  14. I suppose you could game the system by taking 2-3 really high profile tough signs and using the rest of your picks on crap you don't care about, either forcing them to sign for well below slot or not at all.
  15. Wait, what? I'm not an expert on this stuff and I may have missed some of the news, but why would players who aren't already our property be training at our complex? Because it's a development complex designed to get in good with players before they sign, perhaps contributing to development and helping determine if they're worth signing or not. But since you can't pay all of them all the money it might require, plus the fact they now have to register, it really takes away a whole lot of the incentive to do it in the first place.
  16. Not sure I'm following him there. Small market teams get money from Yankees and Red Sox and they are forced to spend it, but this system won't allow them to spend it wisely, on their system. How so, though? They still have to spend it on players. Yeah, they're now spending it on crappy major league players instead of being able to spend it on potential superstar amateurs. This was a total money grab by the owners and current players without any foresight into the future health of the game as a whole or individual franchises.
  17. I actually said exactly this to somebody yesterday, and it was only about half in jest.
  18. So if we ignore the worst part of his season, his season looks better? I will never get tired of disliking these types of arguments. His season is his season. Tacking on his postseason numbers to show how close he got to recovering from the slump makes sense to me. Parsing out his pre-April 11 numbers does not. Actually, I think it does make a difference when you factor in he was facing the best pitching in baseball in the post season and had great numbers. That, and how many other guys start off the season slow? I mean DLee was pretty much awful in April every year.
  19. I haven't seen the Bengals play yet this year, but from the little I've watched today, Andy Dalton is amazingly accurate with his throws.
  20. His father suggest a rule change that would make it where the top three bids would be able to negotiate with the player posted. I doubt they'd ever agree to something like that. My understanding is that the bidding process is blind, meaning that the bidders have no idea what the other teams interested are bidding. You could have one team bid 30 million and the next closest bid 15 million. I'm guessing whichever team the player decided to go with would be the one to pay the actual fee? So the Japanese team would stand to lose millions in that scenario. I think something like that could work as long as there was a stipulation that the 2nd and 3rd team had to be within a certain number (10%? 20%?) of the top bid. That way it's fair to both the player and the team posting him. The player can get a better deal because he has options and the posting team doesn't get screwed if something like the $30m/$15m scenario actually happened.
  21. Because there's always been a ton of bitching about Sori not working hard? He may be dumb and a terrible fielder, but from everything I've ever read, he works very hard at being as good as he can be.
  22. I'm not sure what they're saying/thinking, but I take it to mean if you make a mistake, acknowledge you made one, learn from it and don't make the same mistake again. It's the repeated mistakes that absolutely drive me crazy, whether it's a baseball player or somebody who works for me.
  23. ehhh, i don't know about this. would this story be coming out if sveum were a white guy? i feel liken this just a "lol look at how the black man doesn't know what to do" sort of thing. very condescending. Wait, what? Sveum is black?
  24. Rumor has it he may have been visiting the RB that just blew up his knee at the rehab facility he's at. Not sure what to make of that other than it's weird to be hammered and visiting a player in the hospital, if that is in fact the case.
