  1. 1. They're using their own version of WAR, but Mozeliak very clearly says it's similar to what is available to the public with some of their own proprietary stuff in there. So yes, you're wrong. Whether it's a good measure of anything or not is another story, which is math way above my head, but this argument is about whether or not MLB GMs use WAR, not if it's useful. 2. I will agree with you 100% that assigning dollar values to WAR is kind of an exercise in futility because the value of 1 WAR is clearly not linear as you go on up the scale. The difference in dollar value between going from 1 to 2 is huge compared to going from 4 to 5.
  2. The best part of the tournament was the caddies racing to the greens. Pretty hilarious!
  3. I grew up watching McMahon and then Harbaugh play QB. I don't recall Jim throwing any tantrums as a player. I don't think that side of his personality really came to light publicly until he started coaching. He was always standoffish though, even as a player. I don't recall the tantrums either. He's becoming more onery with age :). I was on a flight with him when I was like 15 in January of '92. I went up to him and asked for his autograph in the airport and he was completely cool about it. He was just hanging out waiting for his next flight like anybody else.
  4. I particularly liked this line:
  5. Hard to argue with your first three. I'm not as sold on Louisville though. I'll need to be talked into Louisville at this point too. I think I like IU or Syracuse a little better right now.
  6. T. Boone Pickens has lots of dump trucks of cash he can back up?
  7. I like that he seems like kind of a dick, too. He really reminds me of a more dickish, knock off version of Landon circa 2000 or so. Yeah he's got an edge. Unfortunately he'll never be half the player Lando is/was. I don't follow very closely but watch games when I can and had never heard of or seen Gatt before, but the second I saw him playing I thought that he has to be a massive douche. He looks like a complete spaz out there.
  8. I really hope he does and makes the hard cap go away (or makes it less restrictive anyway). It has so much less to do with the draft pick than the money you lose along with the draft pick. I wouldn't be surprised if they renegotiate to losing the draft pick but keeping your pool money in the near future. That helps both the teams and the player looking for the contract.
  9. Might not happen if they weren't allergic to defense, rebounding and going to the basket. They're all just soft as hell.
  10. Any of you season ticket holders willing to part with a pair of Friday or Saturday tickets for the series at Wrigley in July (12th or 13th)?
  11. That was an extra crappy week for me in 2004. In addition to the Cubs collapse, my grandpa died that week. We all knew it was coming, but the huge Cubs collapse on top of that really sucked, especially since he was a huge Cubs fan and one of the big reasons I am too.
  12. I was just going to ask the exact same thing. This has to put us near .500 using the projections.
  13. Ah it's funny because black people look like felons. Or he's referring to the fact that a player got kicked off the team for raping....
  14. First, for as much douchebaggery as I deal with down here with regard to the Cards, Musial probably is the most underrated great player in the history of MLB. Second, I had no idea Earl Weaver was in the lollipop guild. Holy [expletive] he was short!
  15. My dad has season tickets to the Icehogs and sent me a text last night about how nuts the game was and how the awful officiating led to the brawl. That's an amazing display right there.
  16. Where was Ray?
  17. I assume this is referring to Ridley getting knocked the eff out?
  18. It's because he's on your team and not bad. He's a [expletive] [expletive]. And the Bulls got so many lucky bounces in crunch time I thought they must have been playing against one of Sulley's teams. Unreal. Also known as the old ass Celtics lost to the Bulls without their two best players on the floor.
  19. If you're not watching Gameday this morning, the intro was hilariously dumb. And they're doing the show dressed in Hickory Huskers uniforms.
  20. I think unfrozen Caveman Lawyer is more likely. If you're saying that there's a good chance that Te'o himself is actually an unfrozen caveman, I agree. "Is there a tiny woman inside of this magical box speaking voices into my ear? I DON'T KNOW; your world confuses and frightens me..." That's the general direction that was headed......
  21. I think unfrozen Caveman Lawyer is more likely.
  22. I almost spit powerade all over my screen.
  23. No, but their new commercial is pretty good.
  24. Which ones are far more qualified? He's been an OC and QB coach in the NFL, has a ton of experience working with QBs (including Cutler), and has HC (in another league, yes) experience. Any of the guys with several years of NFL success and innovation as coordinators. Do you think Trestman is hanging out in Canada by choice? He might be. Maybe he was told in previous interviews he needed to prove he could be a head coach and didn't want to go back to the collegiate level and deal with recruiting crap to do it. Just a thought.
