    I'm surprised by the timeline a bit, but those things can be nasty and tough to get rid of because everything you do basketball wise puts a strain on the calf muscles. The sprinting, jumping, sharp cuts, if you're not 100%, you're pretty likely to re-injure it if you come back too soon.

    Is there anyone they need to keep LF open for (assuming Soriano is moved before 2014)? No, and I'm not intimating that they shouldn't go after Choo for that reason. It's an important consideration though, especially since the original comparison was Choo v. Ellsbury. That was my feeling as well. Having seen how tough of a time he's had in CF this year, I want no part of that. If you move Soriano and can stick him there, great, especially if BJax can figure it out. If you need a CF though, I'm not interested in putting Choo out there in Wrigley.

    What's the story on Beeler? I see he did really well up through A+ but the K and BB rates took a hit once he got to AA and he's spending his 3rd season there. Any reason for optimism with him? Potential pen arm?

    When Garza comes back and assuming Villlanueva gets moved to the pen, that's another nice option. For me, that's honestly the best part of Garza coming back. The pen has been so terrible that having another reliable arm down there to go to could end up as a huge boost to the team in general. Plus, it'll keep Sveum from running the same guys out there everyday quite as much as he's had to when they have a lead.

    This And if he's playing well I'd rather not see his routine interrupted by the monsoon season down there either.

    I'm guessing there's not much hope for him since after putting up solid numbers last year he's now in his 2nd year at Daytona and is a no power LF. Combined with the fact that he'll be 23 in a month, you would think he'd be in Tennessee if the organization thought he was a worthwhile prospect.

    I think it would be worthwhile, especially considering the scarcity of high quality offensive 3B anywhere in MLB right now. I fear that may drive his price beyond a reasonable one to pay for where the Cubs are at this point. I think this also would depend on whether or not you think Watkins or Valbuena can fill the gap at 2B for a few years until you have a better option. Is Garza going to be back? Will resources have to be used to get another front line starter if he's not? There's so many unknowns, from Vizcaino being capable of starting to what will the fates of Villanueva, Feldman, and Baker be. I wouldn't have an issue giving him a deal for his age 30-34 seasons if he was acquired as Soriano will be off the books soon and revenue should be up significantly by the end of that deal so even if he's not producing as well it won't cripple you.

    Not that I'm even close to the only one, but I kind of expected this tonight. Bulls coming down from the adrenaline rush of winning Game 7 and Game 1, Heat fired up after the loss, Bulls still short handed. Not much of a surprise really.

    I have no problem with the physical stuff, but that horse [expletive] that Battier pulled on Noah has no place in the game. He's just dirty in general any more though.

    I don't think so. I've always been of the opinion that one or two high-quality relief pitchers are just as important as your rotation guys. Man, that's more relevant right now than ever. The current FO has shown an ability to identify pretty solid starting pitching at a very good value and as awful as the pen has been this year, I have a hard time disagreeing with Kyle on this particular point.

    How Bowden is on the team still baffles me. At least bring up someone from Iowa because there has to be other options in the farm system. Because most of his bad innings have come in his second inning of work. It's not his fault Dale doesn't know how to use him.

    Generally, yes, unless he's the guy guarding the ball, which I'm assuming he would be in this scenario. And he didn't do much helping when Nate crossed over Ray Allen the other night for a layup. Both he and Bosh just kind of flailed pointlessly.

    I was only referring to the final possession(s) of the game when things tend to be more of an iso situation. I think it's easier to score with LeBron playing a big guy than it is with him defending a playmaker on the perimeter, especially right now with Rose more than likely being rusty. I don't think you'll see LeBron on Nate, it would create weird matchups elsewhere and probably give the Bulls a bit of an advantage. Plus, I think Nate is too quick for LeBron, even with the huge size disadvantage. As Sulley said, against any other team, and any other game situation, you're much better off with Rose, rust or not.

    Just heard Buster Olney talking about him on SVP and Rusillo. He said that when Gomez broke his collar bone in 2011, he went into the manager's office and told him he wanted to play like he did in winter ball, essentially swinging really hard and trying to hit home runs to center field instead of the slappy, line drive hitter coaches had wanted him to be since he's so fast. Based on his numbers, that kind of looks like it's about a year earlier than he really turned it around but it could be it took him some time to adjust to ML pitching with his new strategy.

    It's nice that he's matched his Peoria performance, but considering that he's a 1B now(and not a particularly good one), it's hard to get too excited. Dude looked like he was wearing concrete boots when I saw him playing 3rd in Peoria last year. Even the balls he got to he didn't handle very smoothly. For all the worry about Vogelbach's fielding ability, I have to think he's a better athlete in general than Geiger and his hands sound like they're softer too.

    I was definitely against signing Pujols to anything longer than a 5 year deal, which obviously wasn't realistic. His injuries were part of it, but I'll go to my grave believing he's 3-4 years older than he claims. I think I was okay with Prince for 6-7 years. A bit younger, not much injury history, and I really don't think his weight is as big of an issue as many have made it out to be. I'm much happier with the route they went, especially if Rizzo continues hitting the way he has been lately. It would be nice to have the Cashner bullet still in the gun, but 20/20 hindsight and all. I'm still not convinced he'll be very healthy long term. PF is a pain in the ass. I have a pretty mild case of it, have no idea what makes it flare up, and it is just crippling some mornings to the point it's hard to put a normal amount of weight on my right foot.

    It's up there. I'm trying to decide if that'd be worse than the Bulls beating Miami without Rose and then losing to NY or Indiana with him. They have a better chance against Miami without Rose, but a better chance against everyone else with him. Sounds weird, but it's what I think. Yeah, I really think them having LeBron guard a big, keeping him off the perimeter defensively, really negates a lot of his ability to affect the game on that end of the court. If Rose is on the court, LeBron is guarding him, effectively making him nothing more than a decoy, which is a problem, especially at the end of quarters and the game. I'm not sure they have a better shot in general, but it's easier for them to get scores at crunch time with Rose not on the floor against the Heat.

    Last year, I think It's been a lot longer than that. I'd guess a minimum of 4 years. It never forced him to miss any time while he was with the Cards, and I don't think it was as bad as it's been lately, but it was something that was talked about pretty regularly. ETA: According to Wikipedia, he was first diagnosed in the second half of the 2004 season.
