  1. Marshall's an idiot, but the dude can play. Trestman may not have done anything to Jay, but he's certainly proved he's capable of putting together an NFL offense and it's been a bunch of years since Jay had a head coach or coordinator who could do that.
  2. The play calling was bad, but the spot that caused the play calling was much worse.
  3. Those have to be two of the worst interceptions I've ever seen thrown. The receiver didn't have a chance on either one of them. Probably not entirely Eli's fault, but man were those both awful.
  4. Yeah, Alcantara is on Licey's roster in the DWL. Of course they have Jurickson Profar on their roster so playing time might be tough to come by. Why would that matter? Isn't Profar a SS and Alcantara pretty much slotted for 2B?
  5. Well, there's some extra help the Cardinals didn't need.
  6. Pick 1 for RB2: Joique Bell @ CLE Ridley vs. NO Pierre Thomas @ NE LeGarret Blount vs. NO Which one don't I start of these 4?: Alshon vs. NYG Cobb @ BAL Decker vs. Jax Wayne @ SD
  7. I'm asking questions, not espousing any theories. Then the answers should be obvious; no, managers aren't going to have an impact that wildly swings a team's record from one year to the next. Yep, player performance is far more important than anything else. It's not like Mattingly had some huge philosophical epiphany after the first quarter of the season that made the Dodgers better. The players got healthy and started playing better.
  8. The only merchandise sales a team makes that goes directly into their pockets is stuff sold in their team store, i.e. inside the stadium. Everything else is subject to revenue sharing, so other than more Asian people buying tickets, I can't see a whole lot of direct revenue impact for the team with the winning bid. One question first: Does the merchandising contract extend worldwide or is that only for US sales? Other point: the Mariners made extra money by selling TV rights to their games in Japan, iirc. As far as I know, yes, it applies world wide. Your other point is a good one that I had forgotten the Mariners took advantage of, but is Tanaka going to generate the kind of interest that would warrant additional TV money?

  10. Agreed. If they really think Miller is gassed and they don't want to put him out there, you really didn't have another option. Lynn doesn't have the best mental make up and tends to go in the tank if things start to go wrong, so starting him on the road probably isn't any better of an option than the rookies.
  11. Cole just struck out Beltran on the Greg Maddux patented tailing fastball on the black on the inside corner. At 98 MPH. Ridiculous.
  12. Costas is out of practice on the play by play. He used to be good, but I don't think he does it enough anymore to stay sharp. He's still better than most though.
  13. I'm not. Neither side is "right" here. MLB was overly aggressive and A-Rod is a cheating scumbag. I'm not disagreeing one bit that A-Rod is a scumbag, he is. But MLB trying to run him out and make an example out of him, with helping the Yankees out of their gigantic contract, at the same time? A-Rod is the lesser of two evils to me. Yeah, the biggest issue I have with the whole thing is the seeming collusion between the commissioner's office and the Yankees in trying to make his contract null and void.
  14. I'm just flabbergasted that newspapers continue to pay these idiots to write articles like that. It's no wonder nobody reads papers any more.
  15. I would bet the average Joe probably would hardly notice a difference in vision with the issue he has. I'm sure it's just the fine detail of spin on the ball he can't see and not to the point he doesn't know where the ball is and can't get out of the way.
  16. You lost me here. This entirely defeats the purpose of having each league at 15 teams. You've unbalanced the divisions again.
  17. Is that at least a bit defensible based on the parks he's managed in and the rosters he's had?
  18. I'd come close to that. I'd like something like this: 14 games against division (4 x 14 = 56 games) 6 games against the rest of your league (6 x 10 = 60) 3 games against the other league, plus a home and home with 2 games at each place for rivals (3 x 14, 1 x 4 = 46) That's a lot more fair to everyone, especially when teams like Houston and Seattle are in the same division (or the Cubs and Brewers this year).
  19. Have a nice off season Dusty!
  20. Well, my memory is fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure our crowds were pretty awesome in 2003 before the 8th inning of Game 6. Let Pittsburgh go through a few of those and see if they don't turn into tight-asses too Yeah, the crowds were bonkers in 2003 and 2007. It was only with 2008 where they were a-scared. I feel like by the 5th bases loaded double play in '07 the crowd had died I was at that game 3 when Hill gave up the HR to Young on the first pitch. The crowd was dead as soon as that happened. It sucked tremendously.
  21. ?? They won last year, no? No, that would be the Giants.
  22. Chalk another one up for the stupidity of the NCAA. They seriously just need to be shut down.
  23. Just back up the dump truck to Maddon's house and give them Vitters and Jackson as compensation.
  24. Aaaaand being in St. Louis, FOX will be showing the Rams-Jags game. Christ. And you can't even get lucky by it not being a sell out because they just won't show anything in that slot. Being in an NFL city blows when the team sucks and you really don't care about it. The only getting 2 games a week thing totally sucks too. I'm loving my Sunday ticket so far. Not looking forward to having to pay for it next year though.
  25. Nope. Pool money is only tradeable for the IFA calendar year currently going on. Pool money wasn't tradeable until after July 2 this year for July 2, 2013 through July 1, 2014.
