  1. Dumbest name ever. I'll raise you a Gookie Dawkins and a Stubby Clapp.
  2. UW-LaCrosse here. They had great football and XC/track programs while I was there but they've fallen off a bit in the last few years. The Wisconsin schools are typically very strong athletically (UWSP #1 and UW-W #2 in basketball right now). And I think Whitewater won the football title as well. IWU actually plays a school out of STL in the 1st round (Webster), although I don't think they are all that great. My dad is a Whitewater alum and because of that I know they've won 5 or 6 football titles in the last 8 years. At least they beat Mt. Union, I hate those guys.

  4. I think this is probably the best reason to have him doing that. Learning how to manage an AB deep in the count is something I'd like to see him get really good at. I loved a lot about Soriano's game, but his general inability to be a tough out against good pitchers because of his propensity to swing at pitches nowhere near the zone was frustrating to watch.
  5. It's really not fair to other teams to have 2 guys that good on one team.
  6. Which one of the 3 they hit is that directed at?
  7. I asked about them on the last page because I don't know a damn thing about them, which is insane for a team that's leading the ACC.
  8. Well, Nunn didn't do his job on that play and you're just blatantly wrong. However, what Appling just did to Rice all the way down the court should have been called about 5 or 6 times before Rice gave up the ball.
  9. Are you sure on that? He was on his dad's team at UWGB that made the tourney 2 straight years (an odd fact I only know because a guy from my high school was the starting shooting guard on those teams) and I'd guess he was probably an assistant for his dad at some point at UW, but I don't recall him working for Bo.
  10. No, they aren't, but they certainly can be. Especially when an injury like this is involved. I don't see any reason the TJS would have anything to do with him moving off 3rd.
  11. They are extremely good, I just have a problem putting much faith in a Tony Bennett coached team in the tournament. Why?
  12. What's the consensus on Virginia? I haven't seen them play, but that record in the ACC is impressive.
  13. He's got a change that used to flash plus on occasion, but now may even be considered a true plus pitch at this point. I thought that's what it looked like, but it was like 85 or 86 mph and that made me question the look I got at it. He does throw 96-97 though, so I guess that's about right for a change. It had some really nice downward and tailing action away from a lefty to it.
  14. Holy [expletive] Eric Hinske hasn't missed a single meal since he retired. He's huge!
  15. Just catching the game now on dvr. What does Grimm throw for offspeed stuff? Whatever it was looked nasty on the pitch he struck out Gregorius on.
  16. Sure I can. You can, but that's how the Cardinals end up with Shelby Miller at pick 19. Miller was the 13th pitcher taken in that draft, and the 7th HS pitcher. To be clear, I'm being a bit facetious with the "not ever" bit, but Goony's hypothetical happens very rarely if you're constricting yourself to the Top 10 picks. Beyond that and you have to start considering guys with superior talent who've fallen for other reasons, pitcher or not. "Don't take a pitcher in the Top 10" is not the same as "Don't draft Shelby Miller at 19" I didn't look at specifics of his draft, but I wasn't saying don't draft Shelby Miller at 19. I was saying that if Kyle sticks to his guns, that's how you end up with a guy as talented as Miller clearly is falling to 19. Now, that must have been a very deep draft pitching wise for him to fall that far. Fake edit: Looking at it, and not being a guy who follows the minors really closely, I recognize all but 3 of the guys taken ahead of him. Many of those have had some significant success already, so that was definitely not the best example to use.
  17. Sure I can. You can, but that's how the Cardinals end up with Shelby Miller at pick 19.
  18. no he doesn't Okay, if you say so, I guess you must be right. There's no way in hell you, or probably even most ML scouts/executives, can make that statement with any certainty whatsoever. Have you ever had a wrong opinion?
  19. This argument is comical to me. You're talking about one guy who's never even played an inning of professional baseball versus a guy who has eventually figured out every level he's been at to at least a modicum of success. Will Vitters ever be an MVP type? No, but he certainly still has a solid chance at becoming an average to above average MLB player, which Jiminez is, at a minimum, 3 years away from even getting a sniff at being.
  20. That's what I always questioned. I can't believe that anyone seriously thought the city or state was going to help when both of them are broke and have been for quite awhile. You can't believe that a government agency, even if they're broke, would kick in money to a project that would cost them something up front but they stand to benefit from in the millions on an annual basis from? You're right, that's totally crazy talk.
  21. bpa doesn't mean blindly take mel kiper's highest rated available player No, but Emery's been so far off the board the last 2 years that I can understand the sentiment. I was fine with the Long pick, but it wasn't exactly a guy who was at the top of the list of guys expected to be picked in that spot. And everybody agrees on how awful the Shea pick was.
  22. Not that these shows are ever really good, but that's a big improvement for them. Those 2 are just ridiculous meat heads and Gonzalez seems like he'll be able to bring some intelligent observations to the show.
  23. He is not. At running the ball, no, he's not. He's good enough at that though that when combined with everything else he does, the entire package he provides is in fact elite.
  24. Is it OK if it's on the back of the neck? That's not nearly as awful, though I'm still not a fan. At least it's fairly inconspicuous and can easily be hidden by wearing a collared shirt. I have no problem with tattoos in general, but I really think they should be in places that can be covered up if the occasion requires.
  25. I hope this is a bad backtobanks impression, because he's #10 of guys actually on the roster and #11 if you include Soriano according to BP.
