  1. Cowboys remaining schedule is junk. I'm saying it right here: they win out and finish 12-4. Which means the Bears can't lose more than 2 of their remaining 4 games to maintain HFA. Bears remaining games at StL Tampa at Detroit GB Dallas remaining games NO at Atl Philly Det now I am not really disagreeing that HFA isnt' a lock, but are you watching the same NFL I am? I would think the Bears have an easier time of it from here on out. who has the tie breaker anyway? Bears haven't lost to an NFC team yet, so I would think they do, so the Bears can lose two game with Dallas winning out and still have HFA By DVOA, the Bears have an easier schedule tahn Dallas down the stretch, but DVOA doesn't account for catastrophic injuries (referring to McNabb). http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff.php
  2. I think he just tore his ACL celebrating.
  3. Hester Prynne?
  4. A moderator has been alerted.
  5. no way, Romo is way too great to intentionally ground the ball Your Romophobia offends me, sir.
  6. My fantasy football team thanks the Houston defense.
  7. If the Cubs are dead set on trading Jacque, whose contract is not so egregious in light of recent inflation, and if the Cubs are dead set on playing Izturis at SS, then Lofton makes more sense in CF than Lugo.
  8. Thanks! I figured they might have changed their tune about Hall in CF after Roberts signed elsewhere, but I hadn't seen anything to that effect. However, I don't buy it. Melvin still admits that he wants a speedy leadoff type in CF. My guess is that Hall ends up in LF, which is kind of a waste.
  9. Everything I've read about the Brewers suggests they want a prototypical CF. They were looking at Dave Roberts, for example. I've seen articles written by analysts who think Hall should be playing CF if he's not going to be an infielder, but I've seen no indication that the Brewers have actually considered him there.
  10. How would you know, Vance?
  11. I guess it's hard to make a blanket statement because every team is constructed differently, but in most cases platoons are a smart way to maximize production. Just one more thing Earl Weaver got right...
  12. Never played it regularly, but has appeared in 48 career games there. We would not like Kielty in CF. I'm fairly certain the Cubs wouldn't consider him as an option there. A Murton type fielder or worse? You do realize that Murton was ranked as above average by several different defensive metrics, right? It surprises a lot of people (including me) because he looks awkward out there sometimes, but he has a lot more range than he usually gets credit for. Anyway, all the metrics I've seen rank Kielty lower than Murton as a left fielder.
  13. I thought he was who the Cubs should get for Maddux if they didn't get a prospect. Then great minds think alike. :D He's working as an analyst right now for MLB.com. Cruz had a .353 OBP for the Dodgers last year. He didn't hit well at all against righties, but he mashed lefties: .420/.522/.942.
  14. I'd love to see Jose Cruz Jr. platoon with Jones. He was DFA'd by the Dodgers in August, but over the last three years, he's had an OBP of .392 (!) against lefties. He can play all outfield positions (he wouldn't be great in center, but he would be better than someone like Kielty), and he'd be cheap.
  15. i agree... i would love this... but DEFENSE??? By some metrics, Bonds was a better than average fielder last year. He was certainly better than Carlos Lee, and no one in Houston is upset about Lee's defense (yet).
  16. Do you know what that team is? No, and going back and looking at the chat, Carroll was actually talking about tandem starters. I don't have any idea about which team would be considering it. I wouldn't be surprised if it were Colorado. They considered going with a 4-man rotation in 2004, but lineup shuffles prevented them from doing so.
  17. While he didn't go through with it, at least Lou was willing to think about doing things differently. The point is to have your best pitchers pitch the most innings, and Tampa's starters weren't doing very well.
  18. He made 40 starts in 1987.
  19. Why not? Royce Clayton and Alex Gonzalez just signed deals.
  20. Why not a 4 man rotation? There's no reason not to do it, and plenty of reasons to do it.
  21. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1089&position=P Thanks, man. Awesome. Did you grow up in Wilmette or do you just live there now? I went to grad school at Northwestern in the late 90's and moved to Wilmette in the early 2000's. I actually just moved away to accept a job and haven't changed my profile yet.
  22. Pujols was the best player in the NL this year (and not last year  ), and he should have won the award. According to BP's stats, his fielding was worth about 3 wins (!) more than Howard's. The idea that the award should go to a guy on a playoff team or a winning team is ridiculous and is just one more reason not to listen to the Dan Patricks of this world.
  23. I pinch myself and wake up. :D Really, there's not enough info there to make a choice. Who else is in the rotation at the time? How are they performing? How's team health? etc. What if you can use Prior, bring in a 3rd team, and get Miguel Carbera? Not if Aramis is still on the team. I don't think a team has ever won the World Series with two guys who have such low Scrapiness Factors. If we could get Joe Crede, though, now we're talking.
  24. Roger Clemens is actually Schmidt's #3 comp in PECOTA. There are some pretty impressive names in the top 20: Jack Morris, Roger Clemens, Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton, Tom Seaver, Curt Schilling, and David Cone. Many (if not all) of those guys pitched several very good seasons after their 33rd birthdays. Of course, there are several guys on Schmidt's comp list that became ineffective after their 33rd birthday. Hideo Nomo was good at 34 (2003) for example, but when he turned 35 (2004), his ERA doubled.
  25. I pinch myself and wake up. :D Really, there's not enough info there to make a choice. Who else is in the rotation at the time? How are they performing? How's team health? etc.
